Afro Deli used to be good, but now it is a place to get ripped off and given bad food. I ordered the veggie platter, and it was terrible. (It used to be good, but it is a completely different thing, now. The falafil were...tiny one-inch balls, nothing like the reasonable sized ones from the photo on the website. The rice was gummy and clearly reheated leftovers, because of the way it was stuck in the little cup in a solid mass. The cucumber yogurt sauce was not flavored with any garlic or mint or salt. The hummus was just ground up chick peas and water - no lemon, no garlic, no olive oil, and no tahini. It was gross. My pita bread was stale and had a chemical odor and flavor of preservatives. And the "veggie" sambusa was nothing like the website description. It was a soggy, nasty tasting, ugly triangle of dough full of brown lentils. Afro Deli should be honest, and call it a brown lentil sambusa, rather than describing it as a delicious medley of vegetables inside the dought. Yuck. Be honest, and call it an ugly, bland, brown lentil sambusa. Obviously, all Afro Deli cares about is money, because they are serving cheap ingredients only, and leaving out anything that costs more than a few cents a serving.More

Oh so good! Roasted veggie sandwich, fries and one veggie sambusa. The bun was very fresh and veggies roasted well with good seasoning. I had never heard of Sambusas so I gave it a try. Yummy. Potato and lentils inside a fried pocket. Great seasoning.

Came here on recommendation of friends. We will return. We had a chicken fantastic, which IS fantastic. Grilled chicken over rice, various vegetables and a light cream sauce. WOW. Falafel were great too.So are sambusas. There were many other things on the menu we want...to try. Strongly recommended.More

I was in St Paul for a conference and wanted something different. There was a shortage of tables, so we got our food to go and went back to the conference to eat. The chicken samosa were amazing but everything that we had was very...good. The only negative was not being able to find a table. I understand that they are expanding so hopefully that will not be an issue in the futureMore

Rather than choosing something at random, I asked some locals where they like to eat and Afro deli came up as a unanimous favorite. They have a nice range of options, the venue is cozy and comfortably worn, and the food was really good. If...I hadn't gotten the recommendation I would have completely overlooked this place.More

We both ordered lamb dishes, incredibly delicious!! Would highly recommend the tea, too! Reasonable price for food, fast service. I would recommend this place to all my friends.

Several vegetarian choices are available. We enjoyed the Veggie Sambusa appetizer, the Veggie Stew and Veggie Fantastic. Serving portions are very tasty and generous! You can dine indoors or outdoors.

I stopped in during an April snowstorm. The place was pretty quiet, but I assume that's normal anyway on a Wednesday evening. I was referred to this place by the beertender at a nearby microbrewery. I ordered the Chicken Fantastic and sweet plantains. Both were...very good. The service was excellent.More

My vegan daughter picked this place for a quick bite since we were downtown St Paul at the MN History Center. Easy to find, we were greeted the minute we walked in by the cheerful young lady at the counter. She answered our questions about...the menu and knew about the dishes we ordered. The food was tasty and affordable with good size servings, and was out quickly and served hot. The restaurant is not fancy but was bright and comfortable. You order at the counter and grab your food when it’s ready. I had the AfroSteak dinner and my daughter had the veggie stew. Order a side of the hummus and pita. It was tasty and cheap and the pita was served warm. Plenty enough to share. We will definitely go back!More

I am really enjoying the StP lunch scene so far! I met a friend/fellow foodie here for lunch at his recommendation. Because I'm still pretty new to StP I'm happy to follow the suggestions of others. That I saw so many 1) former co-workers and...2) people of different ethnicities indicated to me that this place must be well-regarded. Anytime you can please such a diverse crowd with food, it's gotta be good! I ordered the Veggie Fantastic and my friend had the Chicken Fantastic. Neither of us snapped photos of our lunches because we each had our faces buried deeply in our plates. The food was amazing; so fresh and flavorful! As full as I was, I wished I had more just to keep tasting it. Maybe I'll catch a shot next time...More
