Naviya’s awfulness Another gem of Minneapolis food scene gone the way of ownership losing interest in what got them to where they are...or were: Their food and their service. We have been happy customers for several years. We used to love eating there when things...were not so COVID-focused. We began getting takeout over the past couple of years and have enjoyed our food every single time. Until this week. We ordered our go-to favorites off the menu. Fresh Spring Rolls and Holy Basil Supreme with fried tofu. We have always enjoyed every single bite of this dish. AMAZING! This week, we got our food (15 minutes late from when we were told it would be ready, but hey, that's okay. It's going to taste fantastic!) and when we opened up the flat container of food to put over the rice we were surprised that it looked so paltry and the vegetables were limp and over-cooked. (The pea pods were very rubbery and still had the stems and strings down the side intact.) There was literally barely any of the usual colors or flavors that we so adored the many times we had it before. None. We felt like we had just thrown $52.00 out in the garbage. There was no reward for our money spent. We are not ones to write bad reviews without first trying to contact a business that has given us a poor experience. In fact, we tried to email Naviya's to give them our feedback about the sad meal we had just tried to consume. We got an email response from the google that it couldn't be delivered because their email platform had exceeded its capacity. (too full) We called the next day to see if we could speak to someone about the experience and to let them know that their email platform was not accepting emails. We asked to speak to a manager or a supervisor and was told there weren't any there until later that day. They took our contact information and promised to give us a call back later that day. We received no call. We called back the next day and spoke to someone who said (again) there were no managers or supervisors available. We asked to speak to the owner. The person said they would talk to the owner for us because there might be a language barrier. We were told that we would get a call back in fifteen minutes after they had spoken to the owner. She did call us back in about fifteen minutes. We told the team member that we wanted to speak to the owner directly. They put the phone down and began speaking to the owner. We could hear the entire conversation. We heard the owner (Naviya) tell them, “I don’t have time. I don’t care.” When the person came back to the phone and tried to make a pitiful statement, we told her “Some language barrier. We heard everything she said. She doesn’t care.” The team member then said, “well we are really busy.” and then hung up on us without giving us the correct email address to send our feedback. As we were writing this review last week, we got a “holiday hours” update email from Naviya’s. We took it as a sign that we should reach out to this new email address and send the original polite, respectful email about our original feedback. (since we were never given the “correct” email address in our phone call with them.) We sent the email on December 23rd. It has been almost a week and no response. At all. So, to sum it up. They do not care about the quality of their food or their customer service. Message received LOUD and CLEAR! It was nice knowing you, Naviya's. We will miss how you used to be, but we will never be back to see if things got better. BREAKING NEWS! We just got an email that Naviya’s is closed for dine-in because of COVID. Well, if you were that concerned, you would have had your staff wearing masks this entire time. Just last week not one of them had a mask on when we picked up our food.More

We had a nice server and she was attentive to our needs. The food tasted a bit oily. My real issue was the decor. I’ve seen high school cafeterias that had more character. This place had a that hard, snap together cold gray plastic fake...wood flooring. Metal grey chairs and hard, cold Formica tables. White walls. It wasn’t a warm ambiance. Good Thai restaurants are warm and welcoming; they have white tablecloths and you feel like a king. This has the feel of a bad fast food place.More

The food here earns five stars. We had the lettuce wraps, which were good, and the cod with red curry. The curry was a little spicy for me; I don’t need to prove anything and prefer flavor over spiciness nowadays. Our biggest complaint with Naviya’s...was the service—from the moment when we were seated by the host, who didn’t seem to care whether we ate there or not, to the server who dropped off our food and never returned to fill water or see how we were enjoying our meal. I might excuse this if the restaurant were busy, but it really wasn’t. My husband wouldn’t let me sign the check because I feel bad about leaving a small tip, but nothing about the service deserved a tip in this case.More

Hi Robin. We’re so sorry about your experience. While we are so glad you enjoyed your food, we take responsibility for missing the mark on service. We’ve unfortunately been short staffed, and have been training new servers. We always strive to create a great experience,...More

Outstanding Thai food. I had the green curry with tofu, which is as good as it gets; lovely spices and delicious curry and nice array of vegetables. My friends chose a curry and two stir fries. All reported as very good. Excellent, friendly server. On...a pleasant September afternoon we enjoyed eating outside. Prices very reasonable for the quality. Linden Hills neighborhood is a wonderful place for a post meal walk.More

Lovely space in a lovely neighborhood, with classy appointments and staff. We had a couple appetizers that didn't last long but were lovely while we were able to look at them. We then each had a main dish, and I don't think a single one...of us was quite able to finish all we had. My red curry was just on the outer edge of how spicy I can stand things, but I've got a wimpy palate, and even I could tell that it was delicious through the spiciness.More

From the fresh spring rolls to the tom yum soup and classic pad Thai, we go back again and again for more. Kids favorite - chicken satay! Veggies are all very fresh and flavors are authentic and yummy.

The food at Naviya's is very good. We enjoyed both traditional and more contemporary cuisine. The ingredients are fresh & spice added thoughtfully bringing out the wonderful flavors & aromas of Thai food. Decent Wine and beer list as well . . . However the...over-all service from the beginning to the end of the meal was very average . . . and a shame given the quality of the food. No one seemed glad to see us . . . water glasses went unfilled unless asked for refill, appetizer dish remained on the tiny table through the end of the meal . . .and we had to ask for napkins, flatware . . .no one said "thank you for coming" when we left . . .we walked past 3-4 people, including our waitress & the hostess . . .More

Small, unpretentious, casual neighborhood spot with excellent Thai. Vegetables are grilled before being added to curry, giving the dish extra depth and flavor. Hot Plate with shrimp is loaded with large, perfectly cooked, fresh shrimp. Brown rice is available. Nice beer selection. Takeout is fast....Hesitate to call it "cheap eats" because it is on the pricier side for Thai at $13 - $20 per dish - however, the quality is worth it.More

I ate in this restaurants twice. What I like that is has local vibe, low key, simple but clean. I was there on Thursday and Saturday for dinner. Food seems to take a while to arrive. I like spring rolls- full of flavor. Pad Thai...was average. Two different fried rice were on colder side. I guess that they charge such a high prices just for the location and kind of clean/healthy presentation. Other all I did not feel that it is real thai food as it missing this spiciness that usuallyMore

We started with the recommended chicken and shrimp spring rolls. We shared but could have easily been a meal for one. They were delicious! and the dipping sauce was amazing. The flavors were so fresh..I think I detected a hint of mint in the rolls?...Whatever it was the sauce, chicken, shrimp and everything else meshed together well. The same could be said for our entrees. My daughter had the massaman curry with tofu, which she loved. I had the rama thai with shrimp. The vegetable were full of a grilled almost burnt flavor but it worked. Everything was delicious. Would def go back again.More

What a pleasure to eat a scrumptious Thai meal from beginning to end: coconut water with coconut meat inside; shrimp rolls in lettuce with tasty dip, and the main course short ribs with vegetables and an exquisite tasting sauce. And in the summer you can...dine outside. Loved it.More

Naviya's is by far the best Thai food EVER in Minneapolis and there have been and are some other good spots. Having been to Thailand myself, this one is the most authentic and in some cases better than the amazing food I had in Thailand...Also,...their Prik Nam PLA (SP??!!) is perfect!! I miss it right now!More
