Wonderful food! One of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. We've been coming here on visits from out of state for over forty years. Great food for dine-in and take-out. Often come here more than once per visit. Don't come late though, service suffers...for late-night visitors.More

We went there on a Saturday, was planning to get there when it was open at 9:30am to avoid waiting in line for a table. But I got up late, got there around 10am, fortunately there were several tables still were available. The service was...quick. We were seated right away, then water and tea were serviced in about 2 minutes. in less than 5 minutes after we sat down, several carts with different food were pushed near our table, the food were described to us, then we picked what we wanted to try. The food tasted good. We ordered so many dishes at once, when we got to the last two dishes, they were cold. Nest time, I'll order two or three dishes first, when these are done, order more. We finished our meal in 30 minutes, When were there, there was on waiting for a table, but the room is almost full, just a couple tables available. The dim sum was good, I think this time was better than last time we tried a couple of years ago. Expect to pay more here, they charge a fee if you use credit card. We paid more here than dim sum in Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto, New York, Boston. But I'll come again because I like dim sum.More

We arrived in the parking lot at 9:35 AM, on Sunday, July 4th, and the lot was almost full. We were lucky to get a parking spot, and to be able to wait only about 40 minutes to be seated. We were able to sit...in the waiting area because we just missed the first seating in the dining area. Most people waiting had to stand while waiting, and a dozen or more people had to wait outside, on the sidewalk. Make sure you add your name to the waiting list as soon as you walk in. I recommend NOT dressing down, like a slob. Be aware that the food is already prepared, and the wait staff roll the food around on carts. You pick what you want to eat from the carts. Hopefully, you already know how to eat with chop sticks. The dried shrimp noodle with scallions is five star dim sum, as good as China Town in NYC; I wolfed down two dishes of it. The Siu Mai was also excellent, if a bit dry, and it was my wife's favorite. The chopped, roast duck was cut and dished to order, and it was wonderful; The meat was moist and tender and the fat was juicy and wonderfully flavorful from the duck's own fat. My wife did not want us to try the duck head, which was not listed on the menu, but I thought this dish looked quite tasty. The steamed, red bean Char Siu Bao was perfectly fine for dessert; I would get it again, or I would try the filled sesame balls, next time. The wait staff was helpful and attentive, explaining what we were looking at, filling our glasses of crisp, ice cold water as they frequently passed by, etc. Their tea is delicious, and their teapot is large. Next time, I must try the soups. My only real disappointment was the pork char siu bao, both the baked and the steamed versions were unauthentic and Americanized. The baked version had a sweet topping on the bun part, like a pork dessert. I wish it was traditionally savory; Also, the pork filling and the sauce was very plain, with no scallions, too sweet, and too stringy; Same for the filling in the steamed pork char siu bao. I expect small chunks of juicy, savory pork and scallions in my baked or steamed char siu bao. My wife said she liked the steamed pork char siu bao because it reminded her of what she ate while she was living in Hawaii, a few decades ago. The sweet rice cake was also fine for dessert. Bring at least $80 for two people to eat very well, and take home leftovers. Once you know exactly what you want, two can eat very well for $60. Bring cash, otherwise there is a 4 percent surcharge for credit cards. Well worth the price for what you get and where you get it - considering that this restaurant seems to have a monopoly on traditional dim sum in the Twin Cities, as far as I know, and it is located in a calm, serene neighborhood. Although the parking lot is large, it is barely adequate for the dim sum crowd, on the weekends. Ideally, arrive early, by 9:20 AM. for first seating. This restaurant opens at 9:30 AM, on weekends. Air conditioning is up to the task. The seating is acceptable. The table spacing is decent. Great family restaurant.More

Sunday dim sum! Definitely needed to stand outside and wait. We were there by 930 and the line was down the side walk. The dim sum was excellent! Great options! I definitely recommend looking at the menu online to make sure you save room for...some favorites! The custard buns, sesame balls, har gow, shui mai, etc are awesome. Huge menu!More

Disclaimer: I don’t really know too much about Asian food and don’t eat it often. This is a wonderfully authentic place in, well, a strip mall. As some of the other reviewers wrote: you can’t go wrong here. And you can’t. The restaurant serves what...we would describe as traditional Asian dishes such as Chow Mein, chicken fried rice, lo mein, sweet and sour pork, etc. We found the dishes served promptly, warm and carefully prepared. However, we found the dishes plain; especially the chow mein which had few noodles and too much dark meat. The restaurant itself has an interesting entrance with all kinds of live and butchered fish and foul. The crowd was 100% Asian, except for us. For any ethnic restaurant, that’s a good sign and most people were eating with chop sticks. Lots of large families. A great place if you are a large group. We’d return here, but might study the menu longer and be more adventurous.More

Been a customer for 23 years, now that is going to end due to a 25 percent price hike in the past month. The food is great along with the service. This place is still jammed packed at opening. Cannot understand why they are raising...prices so high. It is a darn shame they are pricing me and others out of visiting. For two $60 used to be $45 for two. Go elsewhere friends.More

The majority of people eating at the restaurant are Asian. There is an extensive menu for authentic Asian cuisine & also plenty to pick from American style. There are so many choices to pick from. The food is really good and reasonably priced. We’ve gone...there many times with friends & the same complaint came from the majority. The service can definitely be improved on. Some of the wait staff are not very friendly. We go there for the delicious food as well as takeout.More

Best tasting food I’ve had from a restaurant in long long time. My wife and I enjoy cooking at home but friend recommended we try here. We were staying over to get a early morning flight the day before thanksgiving so we decided to have...dinner here We shared three different meals at one sitting and was truly impressed. One true key was they brought the food out hot immediately off the burner instead of the food sitting under warming lights until a slow waiter may get to it Food was excellent in all respects We will return at our first chanceMore

I have been a patron of the Mandarin Kitchen for many years, I enjoy their Dim Sum and for the most part it i excellent. Their regular menu is authentic and very well prepared, it's the attitude that at times is forbearing, often times the...servers are indifferent, and could care less for your needs and the owners, well let's just say they know that they are a destination and really don't care if you are satisfied, treated well or if their service is genuine. They charge very high prices and often times I question the value, all in all if you find a preparation that you like and is a genuine original then I guess you overlook the attitude for the food experience. Just think what it could be????More

Have been a customer for years and am a competent Chinese chef — they offer the best Chinese food — an extensive menu includes many interesting and exceptional authentic dishes many of which are not usually generally available elsewhere. As a former Twin Cities resident...I visited many times and when I now visit rye area it is one of my must go places. A recent visit reinforced my feelings. The Peking Duck was great as were the other fishes including HK crab, shrimp w walnuts and beef w sweet and sour vegetables. The only issue is the surcharge for credit cards which is offensive.More

While this may be the best Chinese food in Minneapolis, it's kind of like being the fastest horse at the Indy 500! Read the reviews and decided to try it out. Note that dim sum is only available on weekends. Weekdays this is a very...average American Chinese restaurant featuring lots of fried food, tomato sauce substituting for Szechuan sauce and big cream cheese wontons...the sign of a completely unauthentic Chinese restaurant. If you are craving authentic Chinese food you won't find it here. Most of the weekday patrons come looking for a big plate of average fried food, towering with rice and little authentic flavor. That they charge an extra 4% for using a credit card, like stopping at a gas station and paying extra for credit, is outrageous for a restaurant. Read the reviews and come if you are looking for Americanized Chinese food but stay away if you crave authentic Chinese food.More

Mandarin kitchen is best known for their weekend dim sum, which is packs in the crowds all time. Dim sum is delicious and a variety of options but pricey and service is just okay due to so busy on the weekend. The dinner food is...decent, special seafood if you like cantonese style. Overall, pricey but excellent authentic cantonese food.More

It’s near the airport, so whenever we pick up or drop off guests on a Saturday or Sunday morning, we stop in. Best dim sum in the Cities. Also, salt and pepper squid is awesome.
