I've been coming to The Chocolate Moose for over 15 years each time I come up toe the amazing Boundary Waters. It has gone through some changes, initially for the worse, but recently I had a pretty good experience. I had a walleye sandwich which was breaded, with good homemade tartar sauce, on a multigrain bun. Side of cole slaw... More

Love the atmosphere. Service was quick. Waitress was friendly even though we were there right at closing. Best part about the meal was splitting the Chocolate Moose Dessert.

I've eaten at the Moose a lot over the last 25+ years--in fact, every time I go to Ely. Both the food and the service have been uneven over that time. Never bad, but not consistent, both seem to depend on who's running the Moose and who they hired that season. Last week we ate there twice. The first time,... More

We ate on the patio which is very nice. Wait staff was prompt and friendly. The Cucumber Cooler drink (cucumber vodka and lemonade) was good on a fairly warm day. We ordered a Chicken Bacon Ranch Flat Bread - - the ranch dressing was unusual and the chicken tasted old. I wouldn't recommend it.

Cute setting with nice menu. Waited over An hour to be served. Waitress never acknowledged our plight. Asked other staff what the issue was. The reply was that the kitchen was backed up. The dining room was nearly empty and our order was finally served. The toasted sandwhiches were burned to a blackened crisp. There was no comment from the... More

Waited over an hour to be served. Roasted sandwich was burned. No deep fryer for French fries. Food was not good. Very poor service.

We went for lunch and had the best food of all the restaurants I ate at while in Ely. The service was top notch and the food arrived hot and fast. I would highly recommend you give this place a try.

WE were dropped back off at our outfitter from our week in the BWCA, (which was Piragis Outfitters) right next to this restaurant. Years ago we ate here, so we were excited to return. We sat inside so we could enjoy the air conditioning. But the deck looks like an awesome place to dine as well. We ordered a couple... More
