Food was good, but #7 restaurant in Duluth? Seriously? We are not familiar with Duluth but arrived in an absolutely beautiful fall day with clear blue skies. The views around the city were spectacular. We chose this restaurant based on one reviewer that said there...were great views. Let’s get one thing straight: the only view from the restaurant is of a very busy four lane main thoroughfare. Absolutely no view of the stunning lake from the hill. What a disappointment! The food was decent and service was great, but if this is the number 7 restaurant in Duluth, then I worry about Duluth’s culinary scene! To be fair, the ambience is great (high end casual) and there should be someone on the menu for everyone.More

Visited with my wife during a recent trip through Duluth and glad we did. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and we sat outside during a beautiful afternoon. The outdoor seating area is full of real flowers and a very cozy place. Service was outstanding...and we both had a pasta bowl, we both loved them. The reviews are right, wonderful place to eat.More

My partner and I had a wonderful evening on my birthday at the Tavern seated close to the patio with very attentive staff. I loved the maple salmon topped salad and he loved his burger. We'd love to return when back in town again! Thank...you!More

My wife: Shunken salad. Me: Shunken seafood soup: I can't express my shock at what a disappointing dish the cioppino was that I was served on the evening of Wednesday August 24 around 7 PM. For this dish, the menu listed scallops as the first...item listed , but what I received for $20 was basically a small bowl whose volume consists mainly of two potatoes and mussel shells!! Don't get me wrong. There's a dab of meat in each mussel but not much. The shells are just there to fill the bowl up. I am not kidding when I say there was ONE puny scallop in the entire dish along with several small shrimp.More

They were able to accommodate our large party (16) and the service was good for that size group as well. I would like to come back with a smaller group and get a table on the patio which looked amazing.

Delicious salmon salad that was fresh and well prepared. Fast and attentive service. A bit spendy but worth it for a great meal.

The Tavern on the Hill is a restaurant in Duluth, Minnesota, located near the edge of the Woodland neighborhood with the University of Minnesota Duluth nearby, making it a good possible location for a work lunch. I show up at the Tavern in the late...afternoon on a Sunday, which isn’t the busiest time. I am seated quickly, and the waitress is very helpful with answering questions about the menu. The Tavern has a lot of different seating areas all with their own atmosphere, but I have been seated in the bar area. This area has a modern bar kind of feel even though it is overall a family-friendly place. Almost all of the walls are covered with murals of people. From where I am sitting, I have a very clear view of a mural of a man holding a glass of wine and winking as if he is toasting me from his spot on the wall. To go with the murals, there are many bright lights adding to the modern vibe. There are even lights shaped like drums. The place isn’t noisey with the crowd that is there, but there is a quiet hum of conversation and merriment. The menu of the Tavern has a wide variety of different kinds of foods. No matter my mood, there is something off the menu I’d want. They have salads, pizzas, and burgers, among other things. But, out of all the many options, I decide to make my order from the make-your-own pizza menu. My food comes in a reasonable amount of time. I’d ordered a pizza with San Marzano red sauce and fresh mozzarella. The pizza is presented on its own personal-sized pizza pan with brown paper underneath it. It looks crisp and smells like fresh-baked bread. I can barely contain my excitement. The crust of the pizza is very textured, crisp, and bubbly. I am even able to feel the bottom of the pan imprinted in the crunchy crust. The sauce and cheese are both thin, but they both taste fresh and savory. Overall, in my opinion, it is a good pizza. Going to the Tavern on the Hill was a great experience for me, and if you decide to go yourself, I highly recommend the make-your-own pizza menu. But, if you plan to go for the bar scene and watch a football game, I wouldn’t recommend it. There are big televisions everywhere, but none have closed captions. I do think that this restaurant would be a good location for a work lunch. The Tavern on the Hill is fun to visit with lots of variety, whether you live in Duluth or are just visiting. It might just keep you coming back.More

Been a few times bc we moved into the new buildings. They are not good neighbours. Service ok 1st time subsequent was good. Food is pub fare. Pizza, sandwiches, appetizer, dessert. What was most annoying was when one of the managers comes on shift and...changes pleasing pop music for heavy obscure music and blasts it and you have to shout accross your dinner table. Also annoying is that as soon as it opens in the morning it blares the outside speakers so you can’t enjoy your own balcony or it reverbs into your apartment through closed windows. You might as well park a sports car in front of our apartments booming the music so all you hear are bass beats. No, it’s not a quiet street. But why would I sit on your patio with friends when I can even sit on mine and enjoy bc of your music. We all know your there. Disrupting neighbours is not necessary.More

Here right now... We've waited for our lunch for nearly an hour. You've got to be kidding me!! I'll update if the food WOWS me but good lord go somewhere else. It's not even that busy... UPDATE: everyone who came in after us has their...food. I ordered a pizza and my wife a salad. This is simply disappointing. Update 2: arrived at 12:45, ordered at 1. Recieved our lunch at 2:15. The server acknowledged the long wait so that's good. My pizza was decent. My wifes salad was 4 shrimps and 4 slices of avacado with a watery vinegarette. Said they'd comp 30%, comped only 20% of our bill. I won't be back.More

Hostess was not friendly - we aren’t from area and weren’t sure how seating worked - didn’t know there was an outside, so got seated in bar area, which was fine. Ordered food. Waitress did not check back for drinks and salads were forgotten. Food...showed. Awful. Burger had pieces of fat and cartilage not ground. Fruit flies all over window next to our seat and actually landed on the food and kept dying in it (ketchup, burger, etc) - stopped eating it. I wouldn’t have even written this review if it weren’t for the fact I went to the bathroom and there was no toilet paper in the stall, so that was the last straw.More

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Tavern on the Hill! Marisa was our server and she was delightful. Her service was terrific, (you should ask for her) the food was excellent and the atmosphere was really fun. We joined in to sing...Happy Birthday to Dave who was turning 21 at another table. Dinner started with a very nice house salad. My wife had the Mac & Cheese and I had the Spiralized Butternut Squash. Both dishes were excellent. The squash had a bit of heat but I'm good with that. For dessert we split the Wave of Passion Chocolate Cake. That was to die for! I highly recommend Tavern on the Hill. Enjoy.More
