Yes, we love earning reviews like this!! Thank you so much for sharing :)
I had not been to Grandma's for many years. I remember what a fun place it was to go to when it first opened and there were not a lot of other options in the area. Over the years as the area developed I went...to new places as they opened and quit going o Grandma's. We recently went because the location was convenient. Both my husband and really enjoyed our food and the service. I had a turkey club on a cranberry wild rice bread and it was fantastic. My husband said his French Dip was also very good. Portions were really big.More
So nice to hear and welcome back! I hope we will see you two again soon :)
Waitress was amazing Olivia ( OJ). Great food . Wonder place to visit . First time there would recommend !!!
Olivia IS amazing and so is this review! Thank you very much for sharing.
We stopped here for lunch on our way up to the great north woods in Minnesota. Wow, what a great place. Their food was delicious and the location superb! You are right on the canal that goes from Lake Superior to a bay like area....We were sitting out on the patio and you could see a ship coming in. We saw it come in and watched the draw bridge go up and the ship pass by. How exciting it was because you are right there. Up close! And you could see a lighthouse right there at the end of a strip of land that jutted out. There was also a little shop that sold fine chocolates and of course we had to buy some of those. And they had a souvenir shop in there as well. If it is around lunch time, be prepared to wait a little bit. But it's worth the wait.More
Great travel tips and much appreciated feedback! thank you for both :)
Was so disappointed in this place. No steaks on menu. Also charge a 5% tip fee on top of your prices for food. I tip according to my service. Will not go here again as I don't want any mandatory tipping !More
Sorry to hear that, maschn and please accept my apologies for your disappointments. We've had steaks on our menu in the past and may again in the future, so we appreciate your feedback. The 5% Kitchen Team Service Charge is something we have put into...More
To begin with I've been coming to this place for a long time 30 years and have come to expect a long wait on a Friday or Saturday evening And don't get me wrong the food is great worth the wait but this last weekend...was terrible service To begin with we were told hour and forty five to two hours wait with a packed house I can understand but not even at half capacity didn't understand because I've seen it way more crowded with only forty five minute wait and she told me 20 minutes for upstairs okay we'll eat upstairs smaller menu that's fine waited probably 35 minutes and in the meantime walked around seen over 20 booths and tables empty mind you there's probably 20 people standing in the entryway waiting to be seated leaning up against the wall leaning up against the door frame there's not enough seating for all the people who are waiting for a table or a booth so I asked the host are you short-handed tonight she says no just really busy in the kitchen I said I see a lot of tables and booths empty why do people have to stand why wouldn't you set them down let them get a drink and say it'll be a while for food I finally get the text message so I go to The Host she directs me to go upstairs when I get there there's not even 10 people upstairs she tries to set me my wife and four kids on a dark table right at the top of the stairs and I say can I have one of those over there they're a little more well lit she says no those are taken I looked over and I said I don't see anybody sitting there I can't even see to read the menu she looks over and says oh I guess you can have one of those tables we sit down the server comes gives us the menu ask us what we would like to drink I ordered one beer on tap my wife a diet Pepsi and the kids all wanted root beer it took literally 25 minutes to get our drinks at this point I walked out very bad service in my opinion everybody who worked there that evening should be fired and replaced this is a customer service based industry literally everybody I talk to had 0 personality and with so many tables empty so many booths empty makes no sense to leave people standing like they're just not wanting their business the table upstairs was filthy literally had to ask the bartender for a rag and a towel to wash it service is definitely gone downhill and if it continues to do so they will keep losing business there's other options for dinner in DuluthMore
Apologies for your experience, Derrick. Staffing shortages have been a challenge these last two years and they have not allowed us to open as fully as we really would like to, especially in our kitchens. Your comments have been heard and we will use them...More
We wanted to give this place another shot after the bad experience last year and I’m glad we did. The food was good and the service this time around was amazing! It is worth the wait. Will definitely come back here again
So glad to hear it and thank you so much for sharing!!
Wow…I finally returned after thirty years away. Still one of the best restaurants in the area. My server…I’m sorry I didn’t get her name, was a ray of sunshine on this bitterly raw day. The hamburger was great. The beer was cold, and the service...was extraordinary. Every staff member made my visit worth the six hour trip. And you can’t beat the decor.More
Excellent review! We appreciate your business and your feedback. I hope it won't have to be another 30 years before the next visit :)
It was super busy, 1-1/2 hour wait at 2:00 pm but worth it. Food is always good - service is impeccable. The male bussing tables was moving like the Energizer bunny and we told him so.
So nice to hear! Glad you enjoyed the dinner and a show ;)
As a place to take visitors for an experience, this definitely earns at least four stars. The location near the overlook onto Lake Superior can hardly be beat. But because of all that, it is a tourist centre and there was a 45 minute wait...for a table. The time passed quickly though, exploring the souvenir jumble and the dock. The service was friendly, and our beers came quickly. One of our hosts enjoyed the onion soup enormously, and we shared the 'famous' onion rings, which are massive, but to us, a bit on the bland side. I tried the chicken tetrazzini on wild rice, and it was good, very cheesy, but could have used a bit more chicken. My wife adored her chicken pot pie, and if you can get a Brit to admit liking an American made pie, you definitely get an extra star from me. Good service, decent meal, great ambiance and location, but be prepared for a wait.More
Thank you so much for the interesting read! I am so pleased that your travels brought you to us and I am glad you enjoyed the visit. Cheers!
We got there at 11:30, right when the restaurant opened. There were 30-40 people waiting for them to open the doors. Good sign! We had fish ‘n chips and walleye. Both served with fries and both excellent! We could have easily split an entree. The...server was slammed and was not interested in answering any questions we had about the beer or food. We ordered the same beer and actually got two different ones. Oh well…beer…yum.More
Thank you for the review and apparently for your patience, too. Sorry about the beer mix up, but I am glad the rest of the experience went well.
When we arrived we were asked if we wanted upstairs or down stairs. It was a beautiful night so we chose upstairs. As a first time visitor, we wish the host would have informed us there was a smaller menu upstairs. We had a really...nice view of the refrigeration and coolers and the noise that went with it. The food was just ok, not what I was expecting. Our server was pleasant and did well but saw another one spill food twice. Did not clean up the dressing then others walked through it making a bigger mess.More
Thank you for the feedback, Scott and apologies for the confusion. Our staff is trained to inform the guests of the difference between our upstairs and downstairs and we will continue to focus on that training point for them.
The building itself it unique, but the food is excellent. I had the small Wild Cajun dish and it was excellent. Ordered the small dish and couldn't even finish it. My friends loved the spaghetti with meat balls.
Thank you for the very kind words and for the great recommendations, Wanda. I hope we will see you again soon 😊
A bit pricey, but the portions are large. You will not go hungry. Try the onion rings - they're great!
Thanks for the feedback and great recommendation! We’re making those beer battered onion rings fresh every day 😊
We read the menu before being seated and had decided on specific items to order. To our surprise, the menu we received upstairs in the outdoor patio (we wanted to watch the boats and the moving bridge) was smaller than the one they used downstairs....I wound up with a very good wrap (raspberry vinaigrette, chicken, etc.) while my husband had an ok burger. The view was worth it, the service spot on, but we really had our mouths set for the downstairs options.More
Sorry for the confusion, Mary. We try to make sure folks understand that our upstairs menu is smaller than our downstairs menu, but we must have failed that mission with you and your husband. The view upstairs really is spectacular and we will hope you...More
