I travel for business, so I usually stay away from the old name restaurants- too often they have lost their charm and value for a customer looking for good eats. Boat Club Restaurant at Fitger's Inn finds a way to keep the charm of a historic building while serving food and drink that does not disappoint. Our final brunch before going home, we wanted to eat with a view of the lake. At 9 am, our only choice was Boat Club. Located in Fitger's Inn complex, it was a little hard to find through the maze of stairs and halls, but the journey through the interesting shops was fun. We arrived before they open the outdoor tables, so we were shown a seat by the window with a panoramic view of the lake from the bluff. As the end of any vacay dictates, we were decadent and ordered mimosas to start. These were followed up by stout but not bitter coffee, brewed with beans from a local roaster per our server. My date had the North Breakfast with scrambled eggs, crepes, and sausage patties. I ordered a ham/cheese/veg omlet with English muffin. The omlet was perfection and not too oily, but the muffin was appropriately slatghered with butter. Yum! In addition to attentive, knowledgable staff, fine food and drink in a beautiful setting, there is great value here. The mimosas were served each with it's own split and juice jug, and the size and quality of the food exceeded expectations, all at a reasonable price. Next time I'm in Duluth, I'll be back.

Our first time here. Parking is extremely difficult. Had to park 4 blocks away. Food was good but... One order was for the seafood linguine and it was very good. The other order was for local Lake Superior lake trout, which was a fillet of trout. It was very good. The trout was accompanied by rice (very little amount, maybe a quarter of a cup) and grilled corn (again a little amount, maybe a scant quarter of a cup). I expected more. And that’s it. If you want even a cracker before the meal it is an additional charge. Salads are extra. I kept thinking we would have dinner rolls or something, but no; that’s all extra. We could have certainly chosen more, but I thought for the price the restaurant should include something. It’s a pleasant upscale atmosphere with a great view of the lake. Staff were pleasant. Will we eat here again? Probably not; we’re on vacation and there are many other places to choose from. I’m glad we had this experience.

Thank you for your feedback, BlueberryFan. There is a large parking ramp attached to the Fitger’s complex to use for parking. It’s extremely easy, convenient and free for our guests. We’re glad you enjoyed your dinner! You take care, and stay healthy.

Flew into Duluth and went there for brunch. Had to try their lobster Bloody Mary. Oh my is that a meal in itself. 22 bucks plus a nice tip and worth it, My friends had salads which seemed fine, My wife and I split a walleye sandwich as us old folk don’t eat that much. It wax by far the worst walleye sandwich I’ve ever had. Couldn’t find the fish in all the mush. My wife had an excellent clam chowder also. The prices were very reasonable even with the covid increases we have seen everywhere. Our waiter was awesome hence a 25% tip. His name is Alex. The outside atmosphere is awesome with a view of the lake and the Duluth walkways. The Fitgers building this place is in is historic and they did a nice restoration with many shops most dog friendly. We will come again - just no walleye sandwich. Btw their menu is fairly extensive so everyone should find something they like.

We had a 10:30am reservation. We sat outside the weather was gorgeous. The server was friendly we got our drinks right away. We ordered by 10:45am and for the next 45 minutes we waited to get our food. Not once did the server think to set our expectations with a comment such as… “We’re short staffed…” or “ the kitchen is backed up and food is taking a while” or “ Wow it has been a while let me check on your food”… instead when we asked about it, she said, “ oh really has it been a while?” One person with us drinking coffee had an empty coffee cup more than a full one most of the time during that 45 minute wait. When our food did come, we laughed at the $5 side of ham that was on one of our plates because it was the size of a half a slice of bologna. We asked if a manager could come out and Jeff Anderson who said he was the owner came out and wanted to know what the problem was. We mentioned the long wait and the skimpy side of ham for $5. He said the wait was normal and the size of ham was as expected. For an owner of a service establishment he could have cared less about his customers experience. He said basically sorry we weren’t happy, but there are plenty of other places we can eat. WOW! We will never be back. The food was good, but I have zero tolerance for a business owner that cares so little about their customers experience. The server actually came back to our table and asked us what she could have done better to make our experience better, she was more impressive than the owner. We told her besides staying on top of our beverages, just checking in with us and setting some time expectations would have made all the difference. We left her a good tip. The owner could take some customer experience tips from this server. She genuinely cared. It was obvious the owner DIDN’T!

My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at the Boat Club restaurant and made dinner reservations for a window table with a view of the lake. When we arrived, we waited a few minutes for someone to greet us and bring us to our table. There was no welcoming greeting although someone did escort us to the dining area. We noticed 3 open tables by the windows so we were surprised when we were seated at a table in the middle of the room. When we asked about the seating we were told the staff who took our reservations made a mistake. I never heard an apology. Window tables filled up soon after. Our waitress came by to take our orders and let us know she didn’t usually work Monday nights. Although I’m not sure why we needed to know that. We decided on the crab / artichoke spread appetizer and entrees of Seafood Linguine and Walleye. The appetizer was tasty but came with just four small crostini. When we asked for more crostini, we were told there would be an additional $1 charge. Although my walleye dinner was good, my wife’s linguine was very bland. Unfortunately, we had a difficult time enjoying our meal because we spent much of our time swatting away flies. Our dinner at the Boat Club was a big let down. The Boat Club was recently voted a top restaurant in a local newspaper poll. I respectfully disagree.

The menu has been expanded. Many items, including Scandinavia style breakfasts served from 7:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. Prices were reasonable and service was prompt. A great view overlooking Lake Superior. This is a hidden gem.

The food here is horrible. I’m sitting on the shore of Lake Superior what a beautiful location to dine at sunset. I ordered the selection I anticipated would be local fare. The walleye was way overcooked had a terrible aftertaste to it. The fresh seasonal vegetables were way overcooked and Mushy. My husband’s white fish and chips was obviously Fried in disgustingly old grease. The waitress was extremely pleasant she graciously took my meal And ordered a salad with a small piece of salmon. I guess lettuce is really expensive here. If I had a fourth of a cup of greens I may have been lucky. I have read the recent reviews and management needs to stop apologizing and start correcting the issues.

The Boat club restaurant is not good, I had to send back a pancake because it wasn’t cooked and was cooked on a very dirty griddle. They made a new one, but no better. They have prime location and it’s quite nicely decorated, wish the food was better.

We came to the Boat Club for our anniversary last year and decided to return. That time was great, this one not so much. The service was average, my wife kept running out of water. Food was very slow to come out and was warm not hot: 20 minutes for an app, an hour for the main course. The view of the lake was great. The meal could have been much better, especially for the price.

Excellent walleye sandwich but the fish was quite a bit smaller than the bun it was served on. Ordered "house" chardonnay which was very decent but at $12 a glass I was not pleased. Yes. High end restaurant. But there is a better way!

To start the food was excellent... when we finally got it 70 mins after we ordered. The waiter never came back, we had to ask other waiters for refills of water and ice. Ans has to keep asking for ice, it’s hot out. We requested an umbrella at our outdoor table, were told that we couldn’t have one even though one was sitting 10 feet away. After 45 mins of baking in the heat we moved to a covered outdoor table. While we were there I watched a bartender eating a sandwich then wipe his hands, then turn and roll mint between his unclean hands and drop it into a drink.... Another 25 mins later we got our food. It was excellent but it was NOT worth the wait. They comped one of the dinners and handed me a check 20 mins after we both finished eating. I caught a different waiter and asked if we could order desert to go. They took our order, 25 mins later we are still waiting for the desert and BEYOND disgusted. I will NEVER eat here again .

We reserved a table for outdoor dining on a pleasant friday evening, and our experience exceeded expectations. Unique starters included Seafood Poutine (spectacular!) and curry sliders, a menu full of interesting (mostly seafood) options, but even the steak, a filet, was tender and cooked to absolute perfection with a nice char on the outside and melt in your mouth beefiness inside. Our server, Leah, was consummate in friendliness and attentive service without being pandering or stressed. From drinks to mains with superb service overlooking the Great Lake, to the tantalizing dessert options including a flourless chocolate torte, and lavender mint creme brûlée, this was the kind of experience you expect from New York City, right here in friendly Duluth. Well done, Boat Club! Keep up the good work, and thank you a thousand times for having such a great panoply of options for gluten free!!!!! Almost everything except pasta dishes are or could be GF, where other places offer a salad or grilled chicken.

So we had a reservation for two months in advance. A girlfriend getaway while our husbands were hunting. Our reservation was at 6pm and we were early so we had an appetizer and martini in the bar($50 check) Then had a nice dinner(filet and tiniest lobster I have ever seen(200$) At 7:30pm we were told they needed our table for another reservation, we were planning to stay another hour and have dessert and after dinner drink but felt we had to leave. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

Lunch cost $222 for 4 people. Our server never introduced herself. The appetizer ran short of pita bread slices and she stated she could not provide additional slices without charging us! She never refilled our water or drinks unless we asked. We had to ask for to go containers and she gave us the wrong one for the soup. The food was ok but not spectacular. It took forever to get our food and it didn’t come out at the same time. The service was lousy. Save your money and eat somewhere else. Very disappointing

Thank you for your feedback, InTheKnow. Yes you are correct, there is an additional charge for additional requested pita. Additional food beyond what comes with the dish is not free. We’ll be sure to follow up on your service concerns. Hopefully you were able to talk with one of our managers, as we always have one available to talk with so you don’t leave displeased. You take care.

Went with 3 friends for breakfast. Located in the Fitgers complex. Great view of the water provided a good backdrop for a relaxing start to the day. Waiter was great, very attentive. We had mimosas, mule, and coffee to drink. The lobster blood mary that someone at another table ordered was massive. Our food selections were ham and cheese omelet, lobster crepe, and avacado toast. The crepe was full of lobster flavor and meat so make sure you love lobster before you order it. The poached egg on the avacado toast was perfection, nice blend of flavors and textures. If I had to find a fault, it was seasoned potatoes were a bit strong with salt/seasoning. Great way to start the day. Definitely will go back.
