I don't know what they put in their pancake batter, but they definitely have a taste of their own and are the best pancakes I have had in a long time. A family owned restaurant that hasn't changed a bit in many, many years, the food is still as wonderful as it was on our last visit and the only thing new seems to be the wait for a table. You will enjoy the warm and inviting atmosphere the family has created, with family photos lining the walls and customer service always a priority. If your looking for a home cooked meal in an atmosphere that doesn't feel like just another restaurant, this is fir you. Cheers!

Excellent breakfast!

We highly recommend this restaurant! The wait staff were awesome, the food was wonderful and the price was very reasonable. Even though the restaurant was very busy, my wife appreciated how many times her coffee cup was refilled. It was an awesome way to start our day!

A colleague is writing a story where the protagonist is from Cloquet MN. Since I happened to coincidentally be visiting nearby Duluth, I volunteered to drop by and get some photos / pamphlets. I made an excellent choice in deciding to stop at Family Tradition for lunch while there. A typical family restaurant in decor and menu - very busy to show that the local residents were fond of the place, but not so crowded that there wasn't a seat or two immediately available for someone dropping in. The menu offered local favorites along with typical diner options available almost anywhere in the country. I had my heart originally set on the famed Minnesota Walleye - but when I learned Swedish meatballs were the daily special, I changed my mind. (And got the last serving for the day!) Cloquet is not exactly on a commonly traveled route, BUT if you are in the area, this is definitely worth a stop.

Beast Bran Muffin

Best Bran Muffin Ever Stopped on the way home on a Sunday after camping. Lucky timing we were able to be seated immediately which by the time we left was no longer true. The food was great, crispy hash browns and it really was the best bran muffin I've ever had (admittedly I like both raisins and nuts). Our waitress was friendly, quick, and efficient.

Great food and service

We stopped here on our way to Ely. I’m glad we did. It was a great little restaurant that looks like it was an old drive-up. We got seated right away. The staff are amazing and if you have any issues they will make it right no matter what. They are friendly and helpful and always on top of everything. Our coffee cups were never more than half empty. The food was delicious and and reasonably priced. We’d definitely stop here again.

We stopped in for a early dinner on way home. I ordered a hot meatloaf and mashed potatoe meal. Meatloaf was really good as was the gravy. The waitstaff was excellent and the restaurant was very clean. We will be stopping on our way through again when we have the chance. I would recommend this restaurant for a good home cooked meal.

Best family restaurant

Family Traditions truly fits their name! The owners, family and staff take such pride and it shows! Food is always great! We enjoy this restaurant often and is our first choice heading to or from the lake. The food is homemade, and so delicious! Staff is amazing! Don’t let all the cars in parking lot deter you as they are busy because they are so good! They will always make room 😊

My son has already said when we are in the area again he can't wait to get the pancakes. All 3 kids liked the pancakes. The soup and ham and cheese were also great.

Awesome food, awesome staff, one of our favorite places to eat when in Cloquet! A must try is their breakfast Omelets or actually every breakfast item or any of their menu items! You will be not disappointed!

Very Friendly staff

Food very good. We ate a dinner and a Breakfast ( Different days) The food was hot and plenty of it. Food tastes homemade. My Husband had a Seafood plate He really liked it but couldn't finish it. I had Hot Beef Sandwich but took half home. They have specials I think every day. Can' wait to go back.

Smaller restaurant, more traditional. We were there for breakfast. Excellent service, nice variety on the menu, and good coffee. Everything clean and well maintained. I will go back when I am in the area.

Excellence is a Tradition

Everything was perfect -- the burger & fries, the fish & chips -- and even the hot turkey sandwich that we regretted not ordering! Solid hometown-like cafe with great food that was not expensive. The service also was solid throughout the meal. The server was very informative, and she warned us about that incredible hot turkey sandwich. Alas, we should have listened! It's a place that used to be an old A&W Root Beer setup, had plenty of parking, and where you still pay at the cash register. In fact, one customer paid his bill like this (true story): "My hats off to the fella who made me that hot turkey sandwich. The best I ever had!" (DANG!)

Local service of local food. Try the chicken salad it’s really the best I’ve ever had. When you get there pick a seat and they will take care of you. Most of them have been there for years and years..... it’s really is like sitting down at a locals dinner table.
