While in Baxter recently we decided on the Black Bear Saloon for dinner. We had a drink in the bar prior to being seated for dinner. Shannon, the bartender was very friendly and provided prompt service. We decided on an appetizer at the bar – Bruschetta. It was good – especially the pile of roasted garlic cloves. A nice addition... More

We had appetizers & drinks, did not sample the main menu. Nice place, good service. We stopped in late for some cocktails with our family and friends. Shared appetizers in a clean and rustic log cabin designed interior.

Went for dinner with my son and grandkids, the food was good, I was not to thrilled with my burger however since it was very dry and overdone and the bun was also. Fries were very good as were the ribs my son and grandkids got, cheese curds were great and the beer selection was great also. Service was very... More

I've had better steaks back home in Dallas, but compared to the other restaurants this town has to offer, this is a good choice. The service here was great and the food is decent. I had the ribeye, sirlion, and the new york strip. The new york strip was the best in my opinion and I loved that they served... More

We joined other family members for dinner on a Saturday evening. The decor was awesome, the food was very good as was the service. My wife had liver and onions which she enjoyed immensely. I had the half rack of ribs which was very good. The acoustics are very good, allowing good conversation (no echo).

Good food and good drinks. Not great, but very good. My wife had Wild Rice soup and I had the Chicken Bruschetta sandwich. My sandwich was very, very good, and her soup was good too. We would definitely stop here again when passing through Baxter.

After a hard workday a long way from home, we wanted a chunk of dead cow and a good wine to compliment it. The wild rice soup (wife) and French onion (me) were exquisite. The steaks were nailed perfectly, and the bartender clearly wanted us back, as evidenced by the generous presentation of single malt. Server had spark and a... More

For some reason, Black Bear is generally not on my radar when we go out to eat. I think it's because, while it's not bad, the food doesn't stand out as being fabulous, and it seems expensive for what you get.

The food is generally good and the atmosphere of sitting by the fire surrounded by outdoors artifacts is pleasant. There are a number of steak options as well as the usual fish and chicken dishes. The beer menu, which is quite ample, usually includes specials from the tap. Service has always been good.

A big log cabin style place which just fits in to the rustic part of MN. Dropped in for lunch on way back to lodge with three G'kids and their parents (always a tough group to satisfy). But while service was a little slow the friendly staff and great food made up for it. The ladies couldn't finish large portion... More
