A group of us jumped in the car and took a drive. The passengers did a search and chose Red Rock based on the reviews. Unfortunately, times have changed. For a Friday evening, it was dead! There were as many partons as there were workers....We ordered some BBQ brisket. It was lukewarm just like the service. Based on all the prior reviews, this place was good in the past, but not now.More

My friend and I loved and highly recommend this place. The food at Red Rock Downtown Barbecue is extraordinary! The pulled pork nachos were fabulous and really tasty. Their Pit Pile was also delicious and offers a lot of meat. Come hungry! We also enjoyed...sweet potato fries and waffle fries too. Our server COCO was super friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. It's a fantastic, casual, BBQ bar pub. Fun atmosphere. Admittedly, it is a bit "pricey", we spent $110 for two people. But we left full and extremely happy!More

Went with a group and we had a large sampling of the food. Most of them got the mac and cheese and raved about it. I had the garbage fries. My only complaint was that it wasn't hot enough. The cheese was congealed all over...the meat. Size was right. I ordered the side dish. Large selection of beer and mixed drinks.More

This is a great local spot for BBQ and drinks. We love the burnt ends, so good. They have a range of smoked meat... brisket, chicken, pork. They’ve changed their menu so that all is ala carte. Their brisket chili is flavorful with plenty of...meat. Awesome BBQ nachos. The Brussels sprouts are an excellent side, as are the roasted roots. We’ve been here many times, never disappointed, and the service is friendly and attentive! One of our favorite spots in Ypsi 😊 Their drink menu has plenty to choose from... love the Final Absolution trippel and the pineapple cider. Thanks guys... keep up the great work!!More

Thi picture doesn't do the food justice. The mac and cheese actually came in a cast iron dish that it was baked in. Wife added brisket in it...DELICIOUS! Warm staff and great food. A++

So much to choose from. Pulled pork was outstanding as was the Cobb salad. Collard greens macaroni and cheese as well as the baked beans all delicious. Big selection of craft beers the server helped in the selection. She knew her menu. Several kinds of...sauces to choose from. Huge portions you can share and leftovers.More

Red Rock is located in downtown Ypsilanti, It is one of the best BBQ places around. The Burnt ends are amazing. I travel for my job and I eat out alot at BBQ places around the US and these are some of the best.

Red Rock is a cool and comfy place to get great terrific ribs, and other smokey delights. We go and just hang out at the bar. Their taps are really good and the bartenders are good folks. One of our favorite places in Ypsi.

I liked the food but everything was al la carte, and it was just too expensive for what I got. It was like $20 a person by the time you added a side, corn bread and soft drink. By the time I added tax and...tip, I couldn't see coming back anytime soon.More

When you hear of great Bar-B-Q, you don't automatically think "Michigan," and Red Rock Downtown Barbecue at 207 W Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti is a good example of why. A somewhat stylish gastropub, Red Rock is suitable for couples and families, although the televisions in every...direction give off more of a sports bar vibe. Service is prompt and friendly without being overly solicitous. While there are a very few tables accessible to the differently abled, or just elderly, the majority of seating is composed of overly tall bar tables with tall chairs; a painfully foolish choice in which the majority of patrons, once seated, can't get any closer to the tables. Perhaps good for a bar area, but an indisputably bad idea for eating. The Bar-b-q is pedestrian at best. The majority of flavor is provided by six various sauces which differ subtly from one another. Once you've tried one vinegar-based sauce, your palate is obliterated and they become indistinguishable from one another. Burnt Ends. No, these are not Burnt Ends. They have no resemblence to burnt ends beyond a single surface which appears to have been charred somewhat. Burnt ends are, very specifically cubes from point-end, smoked brisket which have been prepped with an additional coating of sauce and then returned to the smoker for finishing. They have a toothy bite, almost tacky, and are intensely flavored themselves. Piling jalapenos on isn't fooling anyone. At least not anyone who knows what a burnt end is. And if you're going to smoke something, SMOKE it. The barely visible pink ring bespeaks a careless if not ignorant notion of what smoking meat entails. At $10.50/per, these are an infuriating disappointment. Sides are somewhat better. The brussel sprouts are flavorful, and surprisingly filling. The mac and cheese is acceptable for small children, being somewhat bland and containing only the mildest choices of cheese. It's a shame they only include the smoked cheddar in the Pimento Cheese selections. Garbage fries are good for sharing, and the Corn and Cheese is enlivened by the addition of onions which pair well with the sweet corn. On the whole, Red Rock is disappointing. They need to up their Bar-B-Q smoking by several levels, and their flavor profile is surprisingly flat against all that vinegar.More
