We found ATC on TA and were looking for a fish place w/ personality. Great place to go - I'm sure in the prime season this place will be a challenge to get in. Make sure to have reservations as a walk-in would likely have a long wait. Beautiful view of the lake (we requested to sit at the front overlooking the lake). I had walleye (seared) and my friend had the Apache Whitefish (friend)...as her mom from MI said "you HAVE to get whitefish before you leave". I tried hers and actually liked it better than mine. The walleye was cooked to perfection but it's such a mild fish it didn't have a lot of flavor. Wait staff was great and very helpful. Would recommend going here!

We really enjoyed our Brunch here. It is one of the few restaurants with a great view of the Lake and service was very welcoming. The Brunch Buffet ($30 w/ $6 generous mimosas or bloody Mary’s) is very Midwest Americana and a great way for out of region folks to sample local favorites. Whole Smoked Salmon was among best we have ever eaten. Subtle, tender and very fresh. This is the Midwest so it is all dominated by Carbs , but there was an omelette station, carvery and some seafood. It was just a really pleasant ambiance to enjoy the view and local food. We REALLY appreciated the music which added to the beautiful atmosphere. I am so sick of 70’s old guy music ruining restaurants and here they chose great Brazilian and contemporary light jazz- BRAVO! Service was attentive but clearly the pros didn’t come in until after Brunch. It is in no way innovative or fine dining but We heartily recommend and would definitely return.

First, I saw a lot of negatives for this restaurant regarding wait time. We used their phone app, put our name on their waitlist and were seated 10 minutes before our time. So, use the app! And it will be worth it. I had the whitefish and couldn't finish all of it. But my wife's trout was the star of the evening. A great meal with a great finish on their patio with live music.

We have always loved eating at Apache Trout Grill. This visit was the first in several years. The building is lovely and the setting is amazing. We had a wonderful waitperson who was very attentive. The food was the problem. The ciabatta and pesto were disappointing because the pesto was rather tasteless. The bread was wonderful.
My husband's dinner was the sea scallops with risotto. For $45 he was given FOUR scallops and a good helping of the risotto. Four??? For $45??? Sheesh. I had the whitefish with shrimp. The sauce was a bit odd. I would rather have had it without sauce, if I had known the sauce was so bland. The whitefish was superb. The risotto was very heavy. Did not like it at all.
When we used to come, we would have the whitefish and a baked sweet potato (with maple syrup and pecans!) with side vegetable or ribs. There were no cooked baked potatoes on the menu, sadly.
The worst thing was seeing a "surcharge" on our bill. What the heck? Our waiter told us that the surcharge was to cover the difference between the printed menu price of each dish and the actual price we should have been charged. Really????
As lovely as ATG is, we will not be returning. I understand that menus have to change due to changing tastes and younger clientele, but the changes we experienced were not for the better.

Restaurant was recommended at the hotel we were staying at. I noticed the prices were way above what I expected, 25 for a chicken sandwich, was not worth it. Two servers recommended the halibut, when it came it was the worst piece of fish I have ever been served, couldn’t eat it. The manager came over and said it was the third halibut returned that evening. Wouldn’t you think after the second bad piece they would take it off the menu? They substituted salmon but still charged for the higher priced halibut, I’m glad I checked the bill. Glad I’ll never be back.

This was an awesome place for dinner with a view of the harbor. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and was a huge help going over the menu. We enjoyed dinner so much the first night, we came back the second night.
For dinner I had the walleye dinner, my wife had the salmon. Outstanding!
The restaurant does not take reservations, but you can add yourself to a waitlist via the website which I highly recommend.

The restaurant is located on the water and is easy to find. Unfortunately, seating is limited in the restaurant, and, only drinks are served outside. Wait times are long and the bartender is continuously singing along with the radio. If you can put up with that, the food is delicious and the portions generous. The whitefish was perfectly prepared. I would return.

The views on the deck were beautiful. My husband had trout and it was delicious. Restaurant was busy. We had a good, but also very busy waitress. They only serve drinks outdoors, no food. Sailboats were anchoring and people were coming in on the buoy's for dinner and drinks. Very nice atmosphere.

I also have to agree with others… this restaurant was always great, once the new owner took over its really gone downhill. To spend $100 on lunch for two sandwiches and drinks that are the same quality as a take out restaurant was not worth it to me.
The other reason I will not be going back is that they now add a 3% surcharge to all bills.
Per their website, I did not see this posted in the restaurant or on the menu.
A 3% surcharge is being added to all checks to help offset fast-rising expenses, including credit card fees and rewards passed on to the restaurant, rising employee wages & benefits, fuel charges passed on to the business and escalating cost of food and other goods. We hope these increases are temporary. This fee is not a service charge or gratuity.

Apache is about two miles from our house and my Birthday dinner was underwhelming, to say the least. Scallops were OK, but mushroom risotto was gray, tasteless mush. Walleye was cooked perfectly but the “crab sauce” was lukewarm and starchy. No birthday treat was offered (several area restaurants offer a treat). Over $100 for two mediocre dinners. Much better, and more reasonable choices in Traverse City.

Gary, we're incredibly sorry to hear that your birthday dinner at Apache Trout Grill was underwhelming. We strive to provide outstanding food and service to all our guests, especially for special occasions like birthdays. Our scallops, mushroom risotto, walleye, and crab sauce clearly fell short of expectations. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we'd like the opportunity to address your concerns directly. Please reach out to apachetroutgrill@4gr8food.com so we can make this right.

How can this have so many good reviews? Saw this and decided to take the fam here… HUGE MISTAKE! The food was absolutely disgusting. Wait staff appeared to all be from the same insane asylum, multiple flies landed on our meal during our dining experience. Heavy grease and oil filled fish that tastes like dog poop. Every person in here was over 80 and made sad faces when they ate their food. Our family was burdened for life from this experience.

Celebrated 52 years of marriage with a wonderful dinner. Started by sharing the soup flight-regular menu items of seafood chowder and French onion soup, and the soup of the day which was chicken tortilla the evening we were there. All 3 were so good! We enjoyed 2 entrees that are regulars on the menu. My husband had the walleye and I had the filet of beef topped with onion straws and a Boursin cheese cake. Such a treat! We were too full to order dessert. Next time. (Great well drinks too-we had a Jack and Coke and a gin and tonic.) We went at 6 pm on a weekday night and were able to get a table immediately-I know they are very busy in the summer and especially on weekends.

The atmosphere here is great. A fancy woodsy Lodge on a Lake type vibe. Spectacular Water views from their patio, that has accordion doors creating an open feeling.
I ordered the ribs, half rack ($22), with baked beans and cole slaw. The ribs were excellent. Cooked perfectly and a very tasty sauce. The baked beans were good, but nothing special. The cole slaw was basically ditto with the beans. The person I was with ordered the Ribeye ($37) and stated it was cooked perfectly and was very decent size. She would get it again.
The service was sadly, downright bad. Almost horrible. The staff was uptight and rude. Our waitress seemed to always be in a hurry and didn't listen well. Plus she would disappear for large periods and when she visited another table, wouldn't even look at our table. The person I was with decided she wanted a glass of wine. Since we could get our waitress we flagged down a waiter. People on the room thought he looked like Rick from Pawn Star. However he ended up being very snotty. When asked how Sweet the Red Wine was, he stated theirs no such thing as a Sweet Red. Weird, considering I've bought sweet Reds and read about even more of them. I also overheard him talking to other tables with a I am better than you attitude. Considering both the people we interacted with were some of the worse I've had in a long while, not good.
Overall a 2 star Review. Would I return? Probably not! Atmosphere is great. Food is Good to very good, but not special. Service is bad. Just not worth it, when there are over a hundred restaurants in Traverse City to try.

My bride and I scheduled a weekend getaway to Traverse, a little shopping, relaxing and anticipation of great meals. Harrington’s by the Bay was on point - delicious.
Apache Trout Grill that we were looking so forward to was very disappointing.
I was looking forward to their walleye dinner,, they served me disgusting little pieces that were the size of perch,, what was even worse is that it was “fried” but came out mushy and fishing tasting. Walleye does NOT have a fishy taste!,
I questioned the size and was told that THIS is their walleye. I looked out the window at traverse bay and thought something is very wrong here. I did send the meal back - I ended up eating a side of asparagus risotto which they charged me $10 for.
They seemed more defensive then apologetic! We always looked forward to Apache Trout Grill however after tonight’s sub standard food at premium prices we will not be back.

We stopped here for lunch (and the terrific view). Fortunately, we arrived at about 11:45 and it was already busy. By 12:15 it was full, and there was still a line when we left around 1:00. I had the Calamari strips. These are strips of the calamari steak, the body meat, NOT the typical rings from the tentacles. The calamari steak is tender, not at all chewy. The strips were nicely seasoned and fried. They were very good. My wife had what turned out to be a large side caesar salad and we split an order of ciabatta. We had leftovers.
Apache trout Grill is on the pricey side, but the food was very good. And then there is that view...........................
