We had Sunday roast - my friend had roast beef, I had roast lamb. Both dishes were accompanied by a huge Yorkshire pudding, a couple of roast potatoes and roast vegetables. The atmosphere was good, the pub garden is beautiful and the staff are very attentive. I can see why you definitely need a reservation for Sunday lunch. Will be... More

I love the atmosphere at the Baskerville - especially the bar area where there is always a crowd of locals hanging around and chatting and fussing over the dogs hanging around. Great selection of real ales and lagers and good food across the board, whether it's a tuna salad or the ham and cheese croquette "bar snacks" that are really... More

Had a lovely dinner here last night - service was great especially as the pub was very busy. Food was extremely tasty ( the halloumi & courgette cakes were a surprise as halloumi can be a bit hit & miss and the dessert share plate is not to be missed). The staff are very friendly and there was a real... More

We went on a sunny Sunday and were surprised that there was any doubt that they could serve us (they could) as the place was half empty at 1.30. Ate simple Sunday roasts which were fine. A few more people turned up but they really ought to get more staff/more food as they really should not be turning anyone away.

Hi Jan, We have read your review and frankly cannot understand it. We did over 80 covers between 12 noon and 3.30pm last orders which is our norm for a Sunday. Perhaps you should have taken a look in the garden since people tend to want to eat there rather than in the restaurant which makes it look empty. We... More

There's been a real Renaissance in burgers in the last few years, with lots of places offering interesting quirks and tasty meat. My burger was bland and uniteresting, my pint of ale was not the best I've had and the whole place felt tired. Staff were polite but clearly uninterested in our experience.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your burger. Beyond using top quality 28 day dry aged Aberdeen Angus beef in our burger that are properly seasoned and chargrilled, we do not know what else we can do that would satisfy you. We have four cask beers of which three are local and all are kept in top condition.... More

Although we have visited several times since, and received the same welcome and service, arriving with a large family group spanning 3 generations and 2 dogs after a cold Thames path walk, we were fed and watered royally. Nothing spectacular, just everything as it should be, and served with grace and humour. We've never been disappointed and as it is... More

A really nice pub and restaurant with great food and service, a good selection of real ales, and a nice garden. Not the cheapest, but well recommended.

Wonderful pub right in the heart of Lower Shiplake, situated next to the train station. They do some brilliant ales and also have a delightful menu with plenty of choice on there. Every time I visit the staff never fail to greet me immediately with such warmth, they are particularly attentive and friendly in terms of service. There is a... More
