Brunch spread on Sunday, it’s cold and starting to snow, seemed like a good Sunday morning to stay close by. My husband was peaked by their omelet stand, he so loves his fresh and on the spot made omelets with all fresh ingredients too. Brunch is $19.20/pp. Easy to get so stuffed here, lots of food options for a good brunch: mix your own cereals, fruits, salad, pastries, pasta salad, yogurt and granola, biscuits and gravy, chicken and fish, potatoes and veggies, beef tacos with beans and rice, beef and chicken fajitas, bacon and eggs and cookies and desserts to boot. Food options and variety were good, food all tasted good and not a bad price at $19.20 a head. The plus of this brunch is that they serve it from 9am-2pm, that’s a good time slot, since I like to be leisurely moving on Sundays and most brunches end around 11am or noon.

After not being able to get in the night before, we had high hopes that this place was going to be amazing. That wasn't the case. Maybe it was just an off night. The place is nicely decorated and has a good vibe. Everyone we encountered were polite. Our waiter was very personable and let us know upnfro t that the kitchen was running very slow this night, which we appreciated the heads up. The food was good, but not exceptional and the drinks were strong. They were out of the charcuterie board so we got muscles, and a $9 loaf of bread because the kids were hungry. The waiter wasn't lying that the kitchen was slow. I had the halibut and scampi which was good but nothing exciting. My wife's chicken pasta was good but again, nothing spectacular. We did order chocolate cake to go because we were there nearly 2 hours. Although our waiter was nice, and seemed experienced, I was never offered a refill on my tea and he was slow to clear our table and bring items requested. And they were not busy at all, in fact we were the only table in our section. I knew it was going to be expensive, but this meal was in no way worth the $189 bill for two adults, three 7 year olds and two alcoholic drinks. I am happy to pay those prices when the food and service I'd impeccable. This evening it was not. We will not be back, which is a shame because we planned to stay at the hotel next year.

My daughters and I had breakfast here. We had a longer than usual wait to order, but found out there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant; indoor and outdoor seating. Our waitress Ashleigh was outstanding and did her best to make sure we had a great dining experience. She brought out a cup of coffee and when she realized it was not from a fresh pot, she promptly brought out another. As busy as she was, she made the extra effort. A party at a table over left after a few minutes wait and must have complained to Mgmt. Instead of blaming the staff, I saw the manager step in and take trays of food to patrons. To me, this showed an example of a culture of hospitality. Our family really appreciates that hotels are open so that we can go on vacation. We don’t mind the few extra minutes wait and have only respect and admiration to all those who are doing what they can to keep the economy moving forward. Thank you!

Put a reservation in on line for 7:15 for outside dining for date night. Arrived at 7:05, gave our name. The manager told us it would be a minute, he had to go check the table. During this time 3 more couples came for their 7:15 reservation also. A hostess came and said there wasn't any room outside, but that they had room inside. The manager passed us and went to the main desk not saying anything to us. The hostess then told us the same - they didn't have room outside. We said we could wait, She said they couldn't give us a table. However she did say that if a table opened up and someone came for outside seating she could give it to them??? During this time one of the other couples came and asked if they went to the outside bar and watched, when a table came available, could they come in and tell them and get the table? They were told yes. Needless to say we left scratching our head at the inconsistency of it all. We had driven 45 minutes to eat here with a reservation and left with a "bad taste in our mouth". All they had to do was respond to our reservation we made on line letting us know they couldn't guarantee an outside seating to let us know. Not worth going back!

Can’t wait to go back! We’re fortunate to have Planks Tavern on the Water within driving distance because we know what type of exceptional food, ambiance, and experience we’ll receive. The Chef and his team continuously provide mouth-watering options and their staff is always so accommodating. We visit The Inn frequently, and despite always being busy (especially on Sunday’s brunch), we’ll wait, while enjoying the waterfront view, knowing the food and service makes it feel like PARADISE!

My boyfriend and I treated a friend to dinner here. our service was great, Olivia you did a very good job!! I was a little shocked that you didn’t get complementary bread or a small salad with the entree’s but I know times are changing and a lot of restaurants doing ala carte menus now. The food was very good, the view is spectacular, it was a little pricey 3 house salads for $36.00. Seemed high. The only thing that stopped me from a five star review was our dinners came out when we were still eating our $36.00 salads..... bummer. So we had to stop eating our salads and waste them to be able to eat our meal hot. We will be back but don’t want to be rushed we arrived at 5 pm our guest arrived at 5:10 and were done with what was supposed to be a relaxing dinner on the river by 6:11pm seemed so fast for $222.32 (includes a $40.00 tip)

First off, Our server was super sweet but was Not fully aware of the menu specifics. She was willing to find answers to our questions though. The menu was strange. They offered a Waygou burger and listed “government cheese” on it. We asked what that was, and our server said it was plain American cheese. We questioned why the chef would put that cheese on such a nice meat. She actually asked and said the chef said it was a “joke” as the meat was so good and the cheese was not…(?). My hubby ordered the burger but asked for a different cheese- the server wasn’t sure what other kids of cheese there was but he said “anything but American!”. It came with something like Swiss. Overall, hubby liked the burger. Question the chefs choice of “joke”. I ordered the Kung Poa Cauliflower. It was very pretty on the plate- big pieces of cauliflower. But it was VERY spicy. There were the spicy peppers in the dish & spicy red peppers (with LOTS of seeds attached and mixing in the dish) thrown on top). The menu said it had steamed asparagus in it. But it came without. Waitress had to ask kitchen why and kitchen said they had stopped putting asparagus in that dish for awhile. But it was still on the menu. (Menu is 1 laminated piece of paper..so maybe update the menu?). Aside from the overly-spicy, the dish was tasty. Not sure I’d eat here again for the prices.

Strange menu. All over the place. We ate three meals there lunch and dinner, because the other restaurants in the area we wanted to go to were closed Sunday Monday or Tuesday. The best thing we had was the wedge salad. The prime rib sandwich was made with prime rib that tasted like it had been warmed up several times very dry and very overdone. The calamari was very strange it was undercooked and had pieces that range from baby squid to the big round rubber bands. Drink prices were very high. They had several tap beers from microbreweries but those would depend on your taste beer. There is outside dining overlooking a commercial harbor. Our service was very spotty. It is a hotel restaurant and the prices were very high.

This restaurant is attached to a hotel, which I assume is the reason the prices are inflated. $20 for the "Big Ass Pretzel" which is, as you might surmise, is giant pretzel; $52 for a 16 oz. ribeye steak. The only reason we stayed is that we were hungry, it was close to closing time (9:00 pm) for most of the restaurants in the area, and we didn't have to wait for a table (at those prices, I can see why!) Service was slow and inattentive. It was 25 minutes before we even got to order I suspect they may have been short-staff (a problem which seemed prevalent with other restaurants in St. Joseph)

5 of us wanted to eat at a somewhat casual place that was not too crowded re: COVID and had good food and lots of beer choices. That's exactly what we got. Shrimp tacos were excellent as was the special fish and chips (well, they were fries). Good burgers too. Tables were spaced throughout the large restaurant so no one was close to us and wait staff all adhered to 6feet with masks. Table even had a sticker "sanitized" on it. Good place after a day at the beach!

There aren't a lot of upscale restaurants in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph. Plank's, the hotel restaurant, is trying but it just isn't there. Service is hit or miss. We ate there three nights. The first night it was great, the second night it wasn't bad but just slow and not attentive, and the third night it was somewhere between the first two nights. The menu is more like a sports bar than an upscale restaurant. No shrimp cocktails. Zero effort made in plating or presentation. The wine list is extensive. Some of the selections are overpriced by $20-25. Charging New York City prices in St. Joseph is a little bit much. I don't know about desserts because we were never offered any on all three nights. Definitely make a reservation but ignore Open Table and call the restaurant because Open Table availability wasn't accurate.

I was there for a catered event for 75 people in town for a football game. The staff was so nice and accommodating. It is sometimes challenging to make good quality food for a group of 75; however, the salad and vegetables were perfect- good salad dressing choices. Excellent steak with variable mushrooms even for this mostly pescatarian. The trout was good. Medium level wine choices for a large group which maybe better for a single person order. The wine was across various regions and the head bartender had a good moderate wine knowledge and made good recommendations. I would rate it a 5 but I want to return for a single person menu order.

Upside : Beautiful day, lovely location by river for outside seating. Husband had moist cheesy, shroom "Roast Beast" w/fries. We shared a yummy "Wedge Salad" tasty dressing, eggs, bacon & tom. Courteous waitress, we appreciated her 2x lemon wedges in the iced water, tho we didn't ask for 2x :-) Downside: Would have preferred salad arriving first. (Ideally I like mine quick grilled, but that wasn't in the description so, just me. ) My "Eggs Benedict/ Caprese" DID specifically say Basil with the mozzarella, balsalmic&tomato. No basil leaves ? Waitress must have never been asked before but did return with more basalmic( I asked for to give better flavor as had minimal drizzle & no basil leaf to balance) she said "Chef says the yellow sauce has basil IN it". . no comment of sorry we ran out of fresh etc. ?Ate it at $2 more than traditional with meat version, but really? That's not Caprese, not real Basil as advertised & expected & seems no excuse in August not to have fresh Basil herebut just mild flavoring the yellowing sauce. Last note to improve... waitress brought bill but never asked husband if he would like more water, though the 2 lemon hit glass bottom half way thru so he did ask, & she got it refilled. Just a bit more detail on that would have been appreciated. Without these detractions Planks visit today would have been 5 star!

Staying one night in the area and settled on Planks for dinner. My wife likes to set outside with a view. Sure, it’s on the water, but unless your idea of a view is some water and a gravel yard you will be disappointed. Service was good. Food was ok. I had the burger. It was mediocre at best. Wife had the white fish. It was good. We both had tortilla soup which was good. However the place isn’t worth the prices. We would choose something else if back in the area.

This was our first time trying Planks. It was very good. Great atmosphere outside and the food was good. Really good breakfast. We would go back again. I had the chicken and waffles. The Sriracha syrup was interesting...I did enjoy it and also just got regular syrup.
