Loved the 1930s vibe at this joint. It's cozy, classy and elegant. The staff was just the right amount of attentive. Came here during the week for a business dinner and it was busy but it was still easy to get a table. I had the shepherd's pie and it was delicious. Everyone liked their dishes as well. Nice beer... We had no idea where to go for lunch, but knew we wanted soup and sandwiches. Ended up landing here and glad we did. I had the french onion soup, he had the venison chili and we both had a turkey rueben (served with plenty of shoestring fries). Everything was delicious and service was great. The restaurant was decorated very... More

We went here with a group of 10. Although they don't take reservations they did call ahead seating for us and our table was ready at 7:00 on a Friday night. Food was great. Service excellent. We had appetizers: duck fries, calamari and hummus platter (more veggies would have been nice) which were all tasty. Dinner: pulled pork enchiladas were... More

I am here a couple times a month or more for business lunches. It seems to be the go to place and is always consistent. You know exactly what you're going to get when you walk in and the service is always the same and the food is always good. This is probably the best place in the city for... More

Our server recommended the special, Moonfish and I'm so glad he did. It was fantastic! My husband had the pork chops, loved them. The service was top notch with plenty of staff. We will definitely go back.

My family wanted to get together in a somewhat central location with out of town relatives. We chose Town Tavern and were very happy with out experience last night. There were 16 of us, with a reserved table and two servers, Rachel and Nicki who were extremely attentive, pleasant and aimed to make our get together memorable. The food was... More

I went to the Town Tavern for a lunch, and was very pleased with the service, the quality, and the quantity of the food. I got there about 11:30 on a weekday, and was seated promptly. A sever quickly came to my table, took my drink order (a water!), and came back promptly. The menu had several interesting-looking choices, but... More

A nice place with good food and service. Part bar and part restaurant with a small outdoor seating area. They have a few taps, but carry a wide range of Michigan beers in the bottle.

Food was great, fresh, tasted healthy, lots of options. Service was a bit slow. We were on a business lunch. Staff was a bit uptight about letting 8 people sit on the outdoor patio and restaurant wasn't even full. So that was disappointing. I was eating healthy - had the pulled chicken salad. It was fantastic. All my coworkers had... More

We walked around Royal Oak and bypassed the places on Main Street that were jamming people in to the Town Tavern on 4th. It was a calm respite with a relaxed atmosphere without the screaming across the table to be heard. The menu was interesting without being intimidating; the choices don't overwhelm you. The beverages included local brews, but the... More

Description
Town Tavern is a cool, contemporary American classic In 2007, a modern take on a traditional 1930s tavern opened its doors and made its mark on the busy streets of downtown Royal Oak. Town Tavern is a dining destination bursting with personality and serving up American comfort food with flair. When renowned designer Ron Rea was tasked with creating a contemporary version of an old-time neighborhood tavern, he infused the space with an extra-long bar, dark mahogany and rich red bar stools. Walls of the restaurant are filled with old photographs of Royal Oak, while walls of the bar are stocked to the ceiling with what's needed to create your favorite cocktail. Don't let the traditional tavern vibe fool you. Our menu is anything but typical. You'll find the finest bar plates, with a creative twist. The cheeseburgers top many best-of lists. Guests come from far and wide for our award-winning Venison Chili. And our Lobster Mac and Cheese is comfort food with upscale appeal. Of course, every dish deserves a beverage to match it. Choose yours from our extensive wine, beer and cocktail list. Town Tavern is that comfortable dining and drinking establishment that lends itself to leisurely meals and long conversations. Spend time here and you'll quickly understand why we're the talk of the town.
