We walked around Royal Oak and bypassed the places on Main Street that were jamming people in to the Town Tavern on 4th. It was a calm respite with a relaxed atmosphere without the screaming across the table to be heard. The menu was interesting without being intimidating; the choices don't overwhelm you. The beverages included local brews, but the... More

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The fish and chips were the best I have ever had anywhere. They were cooked perfectly...crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. They have a wonderful wine selection to pair with your dinner. The service was excellent. You can't go wrong eating here.

For many years, we've had to same "go to" restaurants in Royal Oak as they've been consistent and comfortable. We thought we'd change it up for a night and were pleased we did. Great service from Joey who was fun, knowledgeable, attentive but not intrusive. Wonderful beer selection for my husband and unique house cocktails for me. The Red Rover... More

Three of us stopped for dinner. Good beer selection and attentive bar service. We were a little bummed that we could not sit in patio, but it was a busy night. Inside was a little noisy, but that is to be expected with a bustling restaurant. All of our dinners were delicious. TT burger was great. One of the ladies... More

My family took me here for my birthday. I had eaten at Beverly Hills Grill for lunch earlier in the day, which was superb. I'm a big fan of this chain, but was severely disappointed with this visit. Our waiter was either overbooked or not paying attention. Our order came out wrong, and the corrected food did not arrive until... More

When we go here I can't help but always get the Lobster Mac and Cheese. It is delicious! The service is always welcoming and friendly. In the summer time they open up the windows and you can sit and people watch. Wonderful full service bar also. My husband and I enjoy going here on our date nights.

Tried their "flagship" macaroni and lobster. not really impressed, it was ok. What was not OK was the vague smell of the place. Kind of like burned grease. Maybe they were having trouble with a drain. I did not ask. For me it looks like a Peabodys (Birmingham) wannabe. Service was good though. I may be back, then again Peabodys... More

First time checking out the place, sat at the bar. Bartender had a real attitude. Tried to start up a conversation and he made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Asked him a question about flavored vodka and he said "if it was up to him we wouldn't serve any flavored vodkas". He didn't take my food order until I prompted... More

It was a Friday night around 5.30 so not too busy at that time. The service was excellent. It was a fun lively place. We shared Parmesan Truffle Fries that were the best fries I have tasted. We also shared the Calamari and the short rib tacos also delicious. I would order them again in a heartbeat. We had a... More

All I can say is Short rib tacos!! Awesome blackbean burger. The decor is New York tavernish with a giant window that opens to give way to outdoor seating. Not cheap but the quality makes it worth it.

Description
Town Tavern is a cool, contemporary American classic In 2007, a modern take on a traditional 1930s tavern opened its doors and made its mark on the busy streets of downtown Royal Oak. Town Tavern is a dining destination bursting with personality and serving up American comfort food with flair. When renowned designer Ron Rea was tasked with creating a contemporary version of an old-time neighborhood tavern, he infused the space with an extra-long bar, dark mahogany and rich red bar stools. Walls of the restaurant are filled with old photographs of Royal Oak, while walls of the bar are stocked to the ceiling with what's needed to create your favorite cocktail. Don't let the traditional tavern vibe fool you. Our menu is anything but typical. You'll find the finest bar plates, with a creative twist. The cheeseburgers top many best-of lists. Guests come from far and wide for our award-winning Venison Chili. And our Lobster Mac and Cheese is comfort food with upscale appeal. Of course, every dish deserves a beverage to match it. Choose yours from our extensive wine, beer and cocktail list. Town Tavern is that comfortable dining and drinking establishment that lends itself to leisurely meals and long conversations. Spend time here and you'll quickly understand why we're the talk of the town.
