It’s a shame the reputation and overall dining experience can begin with the Hostess. Probably one of the rudest encounters my dining companions and I have ever experienced from a Hostess. I won’t go into detail, but when the owner has to step in and do hand springs to calm us, you know there’s a scene. The Hostess did apologize for her behavior ,so we’ll leave it at that. The owner was very accommodating and even threw in a couple of appetizers. We started with a Charcuterie Board and Calamari, both were given the thumbs up! We all ordered a Caesar salad, not so good. The lettuce was swimming in a very creamy dressing that had no flavor. Our entrees included, Cavatappi pasta, (average) Chicken Piccata (excellent),Penne with Italian Sausage (excellent) and finally the Gnocchi was fair at best. Gnocchi can be described as soft little pasta pillows, this was far from that, rectangular shaped thick pasta. All and all the evening was enjoyable, atmosphere and wait staff very good.

D'Amato's is simply the best place for finer dining in the Royal Oak area. The servers are all professional, knowledgable, and friendly. The food is served in generous portions while still being appropriately priced. Make sure you get the fried donuts - they're unforgettable!

This place has been in RO for along time and it hasn't been really good most of the time. Not the worst but not worth my money or my time. I would love it if we have a good great Italian restaurant in Royal Oak. But That what D'Amato's. It may be that I grew up in an a first gen Italian home. But there are some good Italian restaurants like Da Francesco's in Shelby or Luciano's. You make your own opinion.

A friend and I decided to try someplace we both have never been. After yoga last evening, we tried this cute place! Nice atmosphere, good food and great service! We both tried the chicken marsala. Yum! The sauces were a little too creamy but I am sure they can be modified! Good choice for casual dining!

We picked this restaurant because it was right next to the theater. Although they appoligized constantly we were made to wait 20 minutes to be acknowledged after being seated and food took another 40 minutes. Food was okay but nothing special as far as Italian. We kept being told they were understaffed but every other table had a wait person. Not sure what was going on.

Tried the brunch on a Saturday. Served cold potatoes that were obviously sitting out for some time. The Eggs Benedict probably the worse I have experienced in the country. Cold, slimy and tasteless. This is evidence of a restaurant that takes no pride in what is serves.

I went here for dinner after seeing Norm Macdonald at Royal Oak music hall and like the show the dining experience wasn’t very good. Not terrible but far from great. The main course of chicken Parma was really good and that saved the meal, but the spaghetti with it was bland and the salad and bread were bad. Salad had too much dressing but no flavor at all. The bread all stale tasteless. The food was the worst part of the experience, but should be the best. Service was ok. The young guy was a without personality or voice it seemed, but the older server was better and more personable. I think he new I wasn’t happy and asked if I wanted to try something else. I declined because the main was good and didn’t want to stay their one minute longer. The venue was too dark. Not romantic dark, but cave dark. Electricity bill too high? You can’t hardly see in there and then there was the noise which comes from the bar that is ride beside the dining area. Loud conversation about 6 inches from where I’m eating. Also the noise from the street as the line for show two was around the corner. The atmosphere was not for me but it seemed enjoyable to others. I want to give a better review for a restaurant that bares my family name, even though I’m of no relation to the owners. Amato is like Smith in Italian really... I wanted to like this place but I didn’t at all. It was unpleasant except for the chicken parm. That was really good and kept this review from being two circles instead of three. Too bad.

3 of us had dinner here. It was casual, but upscale, with tablecloths and great service. The bread was fantastic! We each had the dinner salad, which was very fresh. House red wine vinegar Italian dressing and slices of parm cheese really made it great. We were all very happy with our entrees, and the food was plentiful enough; we all took a take-home bag for tomorrow's lunch. This restaurant is in downtown Royal Oak. Parking is right outside the restaurant and the price is 30 minutes for a quarter - good bargain. Trains come through town regularly and pass by the restaurant. They are a little loud, but fun to watch. We will return to this restaurant again!

Four of us for dinner- all pleased with service, ambiance and most importantly our delicious meals. Cesar salad is a must. My Blackened shrimp was perfect over zoodles. Friendly staff and prompt service. In and out in an hour without being rushed.

They have a Thursday special for two that includes a 3- course prime rib dinner plus a bottle of wine. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. They are also attached to Gracie's where they have live music and a bar seating. The pasta is great.

We had a nice dinner here, food is not so expensive, beverages are plenty to chose. They have weekly Highlitghts, and on Wednesday wine was half price, but I had a beer, one bottle of wine is too much. But I learned later I can take back home the rest. Service looked friendly. Though bill includes tips, she did not want to give changes, so next time I should pay by credit card. At the bar there was a live show of singing, so it could be more enjoyable if we stay longer. Restaurant is very close to the metered public parking, convenient.
