The building helps define this establishment. Great dark atmosphere, great charm, good menu, moderately price $$-$$$, great staff. It is so busy ( came on a Thurs. evening ), the wait was minimal. Go around to the pub side and start your dark beer, ale, Guinness, etc.

So we came here for lunch, placed our order for a couple burgers. The place wasn't that packed, but we still sat there for almost 45 minutes... For a burger and fries. When our server "Maghan" did finally come out, we told her that we needed our food to go and she gave us a snobby attitude about it. I... More

We love the Red Coat! It is our go to place when we want a burger. My personal favorite is the Piedmont burger and onion rings. The restaurant itself is dark and can get crowded so be prepared for a wait.

I've heard that the burger is awesome so had to try it. Well, I was very disappointed with the burger and also the wait staff very unfriendly and rude. My bun was so stale that I didn't even finish it. My husband ordered the Mahi sandwich it was so small and dry also with a stale bun. He returned it... More

My family is relocating to this area, so we are frequenting restaurants around here. We stopped in here after a zoo trip with our kids and were disappointed. This is definitely not the top restaurant in Royal Oak. Our burgers were just ok (what they are known for), fries were mediocre, and beer selection on tap was weak. The highlight... More

People still love this place but I don't know why. The last few times that I've been there the food has been sloppily put together and it seems it's gone downhill. It's so dark inside that when you come out on a sunny day you're Blinded by the Light so leave your sunglasses on. This restaurant is dark and dank... More

I don't frequent Red Coat often, but when I do, it never disappoints. They are very well known for their burgers and with their fries--YUM! My 79 year old Dad loves their fries. I also enjoy their fish and chips, fried mushrooms and the REUBEN!

The food here is the only reason to come, the room feels dark and dirty. Frankly I am glad I can't see the floor - I bet its gross. BUT the food is SO good, fresh and delicious. I would come any time for lunch or dinner.

My daughter the foodie is home for the summer and wanted to visit this old consistent classic of a pub. How could I resist! It's been 6 or 7 years since I've devoured a classic burger and you'd think there's one change I could point out...nothing!! It's still exactly the same, and that's fine because you don't mess with perfection.... More

Place is usually busy bit their Cornwallis is worth the wait, Good beer selection and kids love the fries. Pretty well everything on the menu is very good and out of town guests now ask us to take them and they'll..., that says a lot.
