The service from the kitchen crew was poor I ordered a bread pudding and a small clam chowder. I waited 45 minutes. The kitchen crew served the customer behind me first and their ordered five items. Of course the customer behind me they were white...and friendly to me. I am a black woman. ROYAL OAK REDCOAT I will never PATRONIZE this small, dark, dirty discussing hole in the wall. Food was not good and I threw it up.More

Don’t go at this place. Terrible service with very rude waiters. I’ve been waiting for 1 our and half to eat and the burguer came out burned. My first and last time at this place.

My husband and I took my mother to lunch for her 86th birthday! Table was not cleaned very well when seated, still had spills from the previous customers, then 2 of the three sets had very dirty silverware. Appetizers were grossly overcooked and served without...any plates, couldn't get the waitress to acknowledge us so we ate off the one plate. Lunch order came wrong, then returned corrected but the chicken was so overcooked, it was too dry and tough. It ruined the meal. I will never go back again!More

I’ve been here a few times with my family— it’s one of my aunt’s favorite places. Atmosphere is really cool! Good vegetarian and regular options. Really enjoyed and will be going back!

Ordered a carry out burger, when I got home and bit into it there was a very long hair in the burger. Keep in mind i do not have hair! When i called to tell them (did not ask for a refund or replacement) the...manager immediately stated "no one in my kitchen has long hair". When I pointed out the lady who gave me my food had long hair he just grunted. I thanked him for calling me a liar... he then and only then offered to remake my food, but i declined. The call was only to advise him to make sure his staff are keeping the food clean! I would steer clear this is not the famous Red Coat Tavern of yester year! It is trashy and run down.More

Dope. Simply dope. Calamari on point. Burgers are great. They’ve got a cider beer that lights me up inside.

Came to town for a wrestling show and wanted to come here and try the burgers because we heard good things about them. I got the burger and my girlfriend got the Reuben with some chili and we shared some fries. Both of us thought...our food was delicious. Seriously, don't listen to people who say the burgers aren't good...their palates must be off. And the people that say they aren't as good as they used to be, before they must have been the best in the world, as this was still a top 20 burger I've had. Cooked exactly as I asked and it tasted amazing. The fries weren't the best I've had, but they also weren't bad by any means either, so I don't know what people are talking about there. The restaurant is a little cramped and dimly lit, but nothing to complain about. Booth seats and tables are plenty big, and I'm 250 pounds. Went on a Saturday at 4 and got in just before a huge rush, and there was a 45 minute wait shortly after. The popularity doesn't lie, so don't listen to the naysayers. Would come back in a heartbeat if we come back to the area.More

We watched Channel 7 News report (ABC) On Detroit’s Best Burgers. Having been to many of the other restaurants, we made a special visit to The Red Coat Tavern. An older establishment and the building on the outside is dated, parking is free, but the...parking lot was packed! Found a parking place, walked in to a fully packed, standing room only, bar stools packed restaurant. Wait time was only 25 minutes, we were seated at a very small table, packed in with other small tables. The waiter was prompt, took our order and within 8 minutes our burgers were delivered. First bite said it all~ pure deliciousness! Moist, hot, fresh tomatoes, pickles, lettuce and special sauce created an incredible burger! Burgers begin at $12.00 The onion rings are HUGE $7.00, and worth the money. Best I have ever eaten. It is a dark restaurant, but it’s supposed to be, it is reminiscent of the Colonial Period of America’s history. It has a warm fire blazing in the fireplace and the red lanterns throughout create a warm atmosphere. Beers (Budweiser) $4.00 a bottle~ other brands are priced higher. Definitely deserves Best Burger in Detroit award!!More

You go to the Red Coat for their burgers, period. Their beef mixture is outstanding and you can customize your toppings. Prepared just the way you like it!
