This review is NOT timely it is from our visit in August; hopefully, things have improved.
This was our first visit, our older daughter has been here with friends before and suggested it. We got there early on Sunday morning as we were taking our...daughter up to MSU that day to check in and wanted to do a fun family breakfast. We got there just in time, as the line started to get long after we checked in our party of 5. It did not take a long time to be seated, which was nice.
We waited an inordinate amount of time for our first drink order to be taken. Coffees and milk were ordered. This is breakfast I need my coffee. I decided on the maple glazed french toast, and the others had a variety of egg dishes or pancakes. Our expectations were high; however, not one thing was great - some things were good, just expected better. My french toast was awful!
First, the glaze was so heavy it looked like they poured a quart of sugar on it and it was COLD! I took one bite and waited around for the server to come back and check on us so I could send it back. He was too busy standing around in the server station to actually check on the table, finally he came back and I sent the dish back to the kitchen. The same french toast was brought back to me, it looked like it had been thrown in the microwave...issue with that is the edges continued to be cold. How do I know it was mine...there was the bite that I took. C'mon people french toast is not that hard, at least serve it hot. The glaze was overly overly heavy...that may be the way they serve it so can't complain just way too sweet and heavy. Would not order again.
Did you get the feeling that I thought the service was lacking? Definitely, first the server (and clearly the kitchen) did not know how to deal with the issue of my cold food, second (this is a BIG ONE) did not get one offer to refill our coffees. This is breakfast people! I need my coffee - I had to ask twice to get one refill and that was the manager getting it for us. The entire time the server loitered in the service area.
I can get a better breakfast service at Denny's. Additionally, I know what I am talking about - I was rated one of the top servers at Chuck Muer's before I became an attorney. Awful, awful service.
Highlight was the decor (can't say the ambience due to the serving issue). Don't think we will be back.More
