About
City Park Grill, one of Petoskey’s oldest buildings, was originally constructed in 1875. McCarty Hall, as it was then known was a malesonly billiard parlor that offered cigars and “intoxicating beverages.” Today, City Park Grill maintains a loyal clientele with house-made cuisine, focusing on locally procured produce, meats and lake fish, an awardwinning wine collection and house-made biscuits straight from the oven

Food was great! We were being waited on by a new trainee and he did wonderful. We enjoyed the calamari and hummus for appetizers and who doesn't love warm biscuits delivered to the table! My husband had a steak and potatoes, I enjoyed the perch...dinner while our 11 year old had the chicken and waffles. They were on the spicy side for him so we ended up all sharing our dinners but they were all delicious.More

Annual pilgrimage to our favorite restaurant in Petoskey during the ski season. We have been coming for many years and I can honestly say that this was the worst meal I have experienced anywhere in the area. We had a reservation and were seated promptly,...however service was extremely slow and complimentary biscuits did not arrive until after the salads were finished. My wife and I both ordered the NY Strip Steak entrée - one rare and one medium rare. Both were significantly overcooked and of poor quality meat. I had the truffle mashed potatoes that had sat so long on the stove they were like brown paste. My wife's baked potato was undercooked. We did not eat these entrees and the waitress was unresponsive. I asked for a manager and a woman identifying herself as "one of the managers" gave an employee discount of 20% off the two entrees - approx. $13 off $66 for two entrees. We literally had not eaten the meals. She also explained they were very busy between Christmas and New Years and unable to keep up. Our waitress immediately developed a nasty attitude and simply brought the bill and laid it on the table, walking away. No excuse for poor service on top of terrible food.More

Great atmosphere and even better customer service and food. Recommend a reservation as they always seem busy. Wait staff is very attentive. Food quality is excellent.

We have been to City Park Grill many times when in the area and it has always been a favorite. This last visit was extremely disappointing. The food was just not as good. We ordered Perch which was greasy and mushy. The calamari was just...OK as was the soup. We both ordered drinks off their fall specials. The martini I ordered was only half full and it was $12. The other drink was a whiskey drink and it was in a mini rocks glass again for $12. Looks like we'll be looking for a new favorite when visiting again.More

Went here based on many positive reviews. Hostess and wait staff were very efficient with seating and service, but not overly friendly. Ordered beers (cold and tasty) and the pretzel-crusted calamari with honey mustard dipping sauce. It was dryer than a popcorn fart. Inedible. We...had thought about ordering a main or two but many items didn’t appeal to us - truffles, blue cheese, and capers abound. The kind waitress comped our appetizer and we headed for “Palette Bistro” which was delicious and had a great view. Start there!More

I was so excited to try this restaurant because of the great reviews. My elderly mom was visiting from Florida and wanted to spend the day in Petoskey. There were 3 of us on a Thursday evening. We had to wait about 15 minutes at...the bar, which was fine, great and friendly bartender. We were seated and quickly attended to by our waitress. There was someone who brought around warm biscuits and butter while we waited for our drinks and looked at the menu. Our meals were pretty disappointing. We got 2 of the featured items. The meatloaf was dry, and had a taste like it had been grilled and the mashed potato serving was very small. The other meal was the sweet and sour meatballs with vegetable rice. This was the worst tasting meatballs ever! I'm not sure what the spice, flavor was but it was not pleasant. The other meal was just a burger and fries. Fries were cold and the burger was overcooked and nothing special. Maybe we just hit a bad night but I felt bad to even have picked this restaurant. Our waitress was prompt and courteous and was nice enough to take one meal off our bill. I hate to leave bad reviews but this just wasn't a good experience!More

Brought my wife to City Park Grill for the first time. (My buddy and me always stop there during our ski trips North) We went for Happy Hour then dinner. The Happy Hour is excellent. Great service and prices. Dinner was good for my wife...but below average for me. I had the Parmesan Encrusted Whitefish. It was disappointing for me. The vegetables were cold, mashed potatoes and fish luke warm. I should have sent it back. My wife's whitefish sandwich and French Onion soup were good.More

Try to stop here every year when coming to Petoskey. Ate twice here this week. Menu is really good, food is too. Chicago Burger is pretty good and their Hanging Frank beer made especially by Shorts Brewery is delicious.

My wife and I went to Petoskey for our anniversary and stayed at the terrace Inn, right down the way to the City Park Grill! This place was a very pleasant surprise. Built in 1875, You walk in and you see the original 30 foot...Mohagony bar, which Hemingway would frequent often. He had a home in Petoskey, would sit at the second stool from the end and write, all the while putting his cigar out in the hole of the bar which is still there! The food is excellent, if it wasn’t the best Reuben I’ve ever had it was damn close! We highly recommend!!More

We went to the bar to see where Hemingway stopped for drinks and had a wonderful experience! Our bartender was filled with fun information about Hemingway and served us yummy drinks. Ask for the Hemingway drink special! It’s amazing. Great place to stop.

Came on a busy afternoon. The person who checked us in told us it would be about 5 minutes for a table. Five minutes later, we were seated. Very nice warm biscuits were served at the same time as our Moscow mules. We declined more...biscuits as we did not want to put on extra weight. Food came in a reasonable amount of time. Steak was cooked as ordered and walleye special was well prepared. Finished off with a nice crisp. Service was attentive without hovering.More

We stopped for dinner on a Thursday night. We were seated within 10 mins. The food was good and the service was attentive. Good french onion soup. Perch and chips were good. Did not care for the chips with my sandwich.

Recommended to us by a person while visiting the area. Nice setting, however, inside seems old and run down. Hole in the floor in the restroom (looks like an old drain that was not plugged). Fried zucchini and sweet potato fries were fantastic as appetizers....Both my wife and I had the roast beef sandwich. It was very tender and you could tell it was slow cooked by its smoked flavor. One person in our party is vegan (we mentioned this to our waitress) and she had a few options to recommend. They ordered the mediterranean pasta. The only problem is that when it came out it had shaved parmesan cheese on it. Vegans do not eat cheese and the the chef should know this if they are going to serve vegans.More

It was a very pleasant experience all around. My meal, the Mediterranean Linguine, was delicious. My friends were equally happy with their meals. The Raspberry Sangria was very good. Our server, Barbara, was very pleasant and attentive. And a plus was getting to see the...seat where Hemingway came to write. Good food and a little history.More

The food is lovely. The Fille mignion steak was made to peffection and so were the filled mushrooms. The onion soup was very good but the Humus could be better. The service was very nice.
