Definitely not the best Japanese food I've had, which can sometimes happen when non-Japanese people try to make it. When giving my drink order, I asked for ocha (green tea) and was told they didn't have it, that they only had 2 kind of Japanese beer (?!). The gyoza appetizer was fried and greasy. The shrimp tempura app, which was more expensive than vegetable tempura, was mostly vegetables - only 2 shrimp. The chicken katsu was a plate full of chicken nuggets with the heaviest amount panko I've ever seen, accompanied by a spoonful of seaweed salad. The sashimi dinner was pretty good but clumsily presented. I'll have to find something better in the area.

My favorite Japanese restaurant in Novi.

Happy Sushi is a moderate Japanese restaurant with caring service and quality food. I visit about twice a month. My daughter who lived in Japan looks forward to dining as well. I order a variety of rolls, udon and tempura and appreciate the quality and presentation. My daughter will get full dinners as well. I always look forward to my next visit.

Las Vegas roll is decent.

It was beyond difficult to understand the woman that answered the phone, nearly impossible. I did manage to thrift out that they are open until 9PM and are open for dine-in after several tries. The word from the other tables is there is no sushi chef working here tonight. Ok. Should be interesting. They made the table in front of us incorrectly Ordered 2 Las Vegas roll, no king crab today, a dragon roll, spicy scallop roll, 2 ginger salad and an edamame. $46.90. They were skimpy about the sriracha, I asked for more. The woman brought the whole bottle for us to fill up ourselves. The dragon roll wasn’t my favorite, way too thick for my liking. The scallop roll is okay, different. The Las Vegas roll is the better of the 3 rolls, but every few rolls something would taste odd, almost musty or moldy to me. Could not quite place what was off though. Service was ok.

Pretty Good Sushi

My wife wanted to try a new sushi place and we were told about Happy Sushi. Had a good selection of the traditional nigiri sushi and some great speciality rolls. Ordered the usual California roll and tuna rolls which were good, but not great. The Philadelphia roll and the chili tuna roll were excellent. Ordered a futomaki roll which I don't recommend at all. Not what I have come to expect in a futomaki roll...lots of missing ingredients. Place is just a very simple restaurant that serves a variety of decent sushi and other traditional Japanese food. I would definitely go back again to try other menu items.

Not like it used to be

This was a great place to enjoy a meal. The service went downhill a while ago. It seemed like it was coming back but then regressed. Salads were forgotten about. Most of the time, the food comes out a different times. The food was pretty good once it arrived. There are too many other choices out there to not have to put up with this service. They lost regular customers in us.

Take out was great!

I called ahead to have some Cali Rolls and they took my order very well. No issues - picked up and paid no problems. The server was very polite and it was less than what I expected to pay. The tastes is very good and everyone that had them said they would go back! Best if all they close later than all the other sushi places nearby - 10pm. Thanks!

First visit- very good food.

First time here today for lunch. Stopped in with my brother who is a sushi fan. Arrived at 11:50. Seated immediately. 6 other patrons in the joint. Not a luxurious interior by any stretch. Might hold 48 people at tables and about 8 at the sushi bar which is at the back of the restaurant. Server was very pleasant and efficient. No small talk.Took our order and went to kitchen. In the next 15 minutes our order came out, and the tables were full. Pretty much all Japanese patrons. We usually use that as a sign that the food is good. And it was. Prices are very reasonable and the variety of food that we sampled was all very good. I did not know this place was even there until I looked on Yelp for sushi joints in Novi. I will now remember that it is there as a currently dependable sushi place. "Happy Sushi" is an appropriate name for my lunch today. A go to place in my book.

Price and food decent

I went there late on a Friday and the staff was nice. They have a fresh salmon and the best sushi are the special ones. they are decent, don't expect a fancy place...it's not, but the food are delicious.

Very good food at reasonable prices

Small location in a strip mall. The food however, is very good and very reasonable. In addition to sushi, they have tempura, teriyaki, ramen, noodles, gyoza, seaweed salad. Beer,wine and of course tea. On weekends can be crowded. Open for lunch and dinner

Sleeping servers

So right from the second i walked in the door i knew it was not going to be great. When i walked in and saw my server sleeping at a table, i was immediately disappointed! And then i asked for a simple rum and diet coke and got just a glass of diet. Then i asked my "sleeping server" for a real rum and diet and she looked at me as if I was the one who didn't speak English.. i have NEVER had a problem at Happy Sushi and this is one of my favorite sushi restaurants... BUT... i was completely dissatisfied!!!!!

Great Sushi (Great Price)

This little sushi shop inside a strip mall will not disappoint. I have been going for years, once and a while we try something else that pops up, but we always go back to The Happy Sushi. And they have a liquor license, so you can enjoy a Japanese beer or Sake with your sushi. Try one of their specialty rolls....

Decent food, service has no personality

I frequent this place because it's close to me. I have to say, the food is pretty good but very typical for a Japanese restaurant. The staff has no personality what so ever. It's an ugly place in a strip mall, but like I said, if you want sushi or hot soup in the winter, pull in, be prepared for minimal services at an average price (lunch specials are pretty special though). The lunch specials are like $7.00 with plenty of food and they bring it out in 5 minutes....
