The surroundings make this place extra special, eating outside really adds to the alfresco dining experience. the area offers a handful of eateries all are moderate to highly priced with a few that do not have English converted menu's on offer where as la citadel offer experienced and helpful staff who do their best to make your visit and meal... We were recommended La Citadelle, for a birthday meal, while on holiday. We ordered wine and drinks then placed our order. The starters were a bit expensive, so we ordered mains and desserts. The meals were brought to the table, apart from one member of the party. We were told it wouldn't be long. Unfortunately, we had to mention it... More

We have stayed at La Citadelle many times and love the way the hotel has evolved. It has had a recent refurb and décor/furnishings are of high standard. No more mosquitoes at night as aircon has been installed. Swimming pool, view over the Garonne, atmospheric buildings and nearby craft/antique shops. Breakfast on the terrace is essential. A very special stay... More

We've eaten here two or three times in the last few months. Outside the front on the public square is not so good, though the food was fine when we visited - on a very hot day. The waiter helped move the table, chairs and sunshades around for us, but service wasn't quick. A menu du jour was available at... More

Yes, we ate eel. It is the area's specialty, and while quite pricy, had to be eaten at least once. And where better than at the Citadelle, with its view over the estuary? The lamprey had been cooked in a broth, and the bones had been removed, making eating it very easy (as long as you didn't think about what... More

Went for a meal and took 20mins just to be noticed. After placing the order (in French) nothing happened. During our wait we witnessed 4 serving staff bringing out food, not knowing who ordered it and taking it back in. Then wandering around with food asking patrons if they ordered it. Mind you certain patrons (maybe regulars) had full attention... More

This restaurant is one that I have used in the past but we went a la carte this weekend. Superb! The food was perfect and perfectly presented and of high quality. The wine list is superb also and overall the meal was faultless. We dined inside due to hot sun but the terrace is where we would ordinarily prefer. The... More

Overall a lazy effort, dare I say cynical - we had the €28 lunch menu - there is another for €18, which didn't sound very appetising but which most customers chose - but it was poor value and unexciting food. It's so boring having the same sauces and side vegetables appearing on both entrees and main dish when it's a... More
