While the venue has a fantastic vibe, the food was abysmal. The pasta sauce tasted like it was from a (cheap) jar. The crab cakes contained very little crab, but lots of breading and grease. The waitress was completely unfamiliar with the menu. Perhaps it's...a fun stop for a drink, but I won't order food if I happen to visit it again.More

Had reservations 2 hours before attending The Singing Christmas tree. Immediately on entering the restaurant there was a noticeable grease smell. It was so intense, almost like fryers at a fast food place. It did not dissipate the entire time we were there. Waitress was...friendly but not attentive. My husbands meal came out very late. Everyone else was done eating. She did indicate she would remove it from the bill. My son ordered a streak medium that came to us rare in the center. We sent it back and asked it be put back on the grill, the inside center remained rare and he left it. Not busy at all when we arrived but was getting busier about 6:15. The waitress asked if we were ready for our check as apposed to asking if we’d like dessert (the kids did) or anything else. I would never come back here to eat.More

The atmosphere and ambiance are great. Very trendy spot. Food was very good, if a little on the pricey side. Happy hour prices were great.

I was pleased to be able to make reservations for a 6pm meal preceding our 7:30 concert at the Frauenthal Theater. Being located downstairs in the same building, this is a great advantage to eating elsewhere and then having to scurry to the 'Frau' to...find parking and then get seated before any performance. But, that's where the advantage ended. When we arrived there were only two other parties in the nicely decorated and lighted restaurant. One of the features of the online website I used to make the reservations was a "Special Requests" section wherein I requested "seating away from the bar"...this due to several comments as to how noisy it was NEAR the bar. When we arrived our reservation was ready...at the table CLOSEST to the bar. The hostess happily relocated us, but... Our server was very pleasant but needed to return TWICE to re-affirm our orders and make corrections or give further explanation to menu items. One of our party [of four] ordered a steak and realized after the server had left that she had never asked how he wanted it cooked. Again, though there were very few customers when we ordered, it took about half an hour for our meals to arrive. The food was good, serving size generous and prices reasonable. Besides the steak, we ordered two pasta dishes: chicken marsala and a mushroom/spinach combo. All seemed a bit short on seasoning and the marsala was served with a breaded [?] chicken breast laid on top of the noodles and not well incorporated into the dish; the sauce was also in short supply. As more people arrived, the noise level did, indeed, become such as to make conversation difficult. The piped-in music did not help matters nor did it add to the ambience. I think the main 'draw' of SMASH is as an after-work, cocktail/wine venue...note the full name...rather than as a fine dining restaurant. Nevertheless, because of the convenience factor, I would consider going to SMASH again but would prefer trying to allow adequate time to eat elsewhere and still arrive early enough to get good parking at the Frau. NOTE: We received a 1/2 off coupon with our Theater tickets which was greatly appreciated. Not sure if this is standard practice but encouraged our SMASH visit.More

Stopped in to have a bite and a drink and sat and waited for someone to acknowledge our presence. Maybe they didn't have table service but it wasn't posted as such. I realize they had small business vendors inside but we thought with less tables...you would think service would have been better. After about 8 minutes we left. So unfortunate.More

The flights of wine were amazing! Portions were good and the service was just perfect. Very friendly and attentive wait staff and bartenders. We didn’t eat this trip but we will come back, this is a must try!

This is far and away the best place to eat before any event at the Frauenthal Theater or the Beardsley. Once inside, stay inside, with wine school nights, a clever and often-changing menu.

9 people, 2.5 hours and only 4 people received their meals. Had to go to another restaurant to feed our families after waiting 2.5 hours. Don't waste your time or money! The food that did come was so small that they even ate again at...the other restaurant.More

Visiting Muskegon for the first time. Very quaint. Entree presentation just as lovely. Flavors popped. Had the salmon and walleye and devoured both. Had wine specials that were more than affordable and wine for the more experienced conisouer. Our server was so friendly. Made our...night out even more enjoyable. If we are ever nack on the area, would definitely stop again.More

Smash used to be really good. I used to love smash before the new owners bought it. Now the food is terrible. I orders blackened shrimp tacoss. Each taco had 3 pieces of shrimp, which were not blackened. It was almost like they put the...unseasoned shrimp on the tortilla and threw some spices on top. When I bit in, it was just a big ball of seasoning. Terrible and dissapointing. My husband's pulled pork sandwhich tasted and felt like eating beef jerky, not pulled pork.More
