Fabulous Anniversary dinner tonight at The Hearthstone! One of our favorites, we love the ambience, the food is always top notch and as a industry professional, I truly appreciate the level of service. Zarah’s professional and friendly manner, excellent recommendations only enhanced a wonderful meal....We started with our favorites, the escargot and the duck pate - both delicious! Peter enjoyed the perch and I opted for a seasonal selection, the filet mignon with molten Brie, layer of flavor and prepared to perfection. We shared a crème brûlée for dessert, lovely! Well done Hearthstone crew! You remain one of our all time favorites!More

The Hearthstone is living off the grace of tradition and of being the only genuine fine dining option in the area. It serves excellent, expensive food. At this price point however, I'd expect somewhat more precision, attention to detail, and some flexibility on, for example,...side dishes. Menu mainstays like whitefish (hopefully from Lake Michigan?) haven't changed in years. I'll still patronize the Hearthstone for the sheer dearth of choice in Muskegon, but it is not as great as it could/should be.More

Everything homemade and good portion size. Food was fantastic.. not your typical Gordon food premade garbage that everyone seems to be going to. We had the crab cakes and soup as an appetizer. Then ate their snitzel and whitefish. We ate the peanut butter pie...and the key lime pie for dessert. We were told they have their own pastry chef..so definitely don't skip dessert. Pricey though. Dinner for two with apps, dinner and dessert ranged about $135 not including tip. Would definitely go again. Check their Facebook for weekly specials and my understanding is they change their menu seasonally. They also have a beautiful patio with group seating or individual tables outside or Inside seating.More

Love that you can order takeout from bar while enjoying a cocktail. The bartenders are super nice! Not sure why their rating is 4.5 stars. Should be a 5! Definitely returning with friends. Love that you can swap out sides if you don’t prefer fries...and slaw with the perch, 5 or 7 piece dinner.More

New menu since my last visit. I won’t return. Limited choices and overpriced. There are better choices in the area. I was not impressed.

I really feel bad about giving ing this place a negative review because I've never been disappointed before but coming from a place that doesn't have fresh perch I was so looking forward to a great perch dinner First the perch wasn't good if it...even was perch I think it was a knock off my mother had the roast pork that was nothing but a chunk of Boston butt put on a plate with some sauce on it my fathers Salmon was a 4oz portion at best and so dry he could barely eat it my nephews ribeye was supposed to be a 14 oz cut no where near that size The service was great we didn't say anything at that time because we didn't want to make our server feel bad. I always get my parents gift certificates for Christmas but not this year will look for a new place to get my Perch next time I visit MuskegonMore

I usually only write a review when I feel I need to share a special place or experience . This place qualifies . We were just trying to find a nearby restaurant on our way to northern Michigan and had stopped in Muskegon for the...night! We chose to take advantage of the outside dining on a beautiful September evening and were pleased with the abundance of well maintained plants and flowers that surrounded us! It was a good distraction from the nearby highway traffic that soon became muffled background noise;) Our Server, Jamie, could not have been more efficient and pleasant. She helped us with some indecisions ( since the menu was filled with so many great choices) and took care of almost every detail to insure a pleasant experience. Cocktails were superb! We had the beef carpaccio and Buffalo chicken wontons for an appetizer. My husband ordered the perch tacos and I chose the soup sampler, since I could not make up my mind… Wisconsin Cheddar, French Onion and Stuffed Pepper Soup were all incredible and highly recommended! All in all a wonderful place with a menu filled with variety and quality ingredients.. and the service was impeccable! Thank you for a memorable evening Jamie!More

This was a wonderful experience. We were celebrating our 39th anniversary and it did not disappoint. The menu is creative and varied. There is something for everyone and it is all thoughtfully prepared and top notch quality. I had the butter brioche perch and start...wilt the salmon jerky and soft boiled egg special. Both were excellent. My wife had the steak frites and started with the cantaloupe carpaccio special. Also excellent. The menu is a little pricey but well worth it. This is not just a special occasion place. The patrons were couples, families with children, and friends groups. We sat outside which is very nice with all the flora. I checked out inside and that is very nice as well. Big shout out to our server Jessie. She did a great job and enhanced the experience. Too bad we live outside of Chicago or we would come more often.More

When we arrived the table was prepared and a card was there from the staff for our anniversary. We also go free desert. Food...is always amazing. The cheese soup is really good.More

Atmosphere is nice. Menu has a wide array of offerings. Service was very good. The execution of the meal was very substandard. Corned beef for the reuben was sliced with the grain, not against as is required. Bottom of bread was soggy. French fries were...cold when served. When a 'fresh' batch was brought out they appeared to be the same ones refried. Either way, not fresh and crisp. Cheddar Soup was good. The wait for our food was quite long. We were okay with that and asked for some rolls to hold us over until the meal arrived. We declined when informed they would be $.50 each. We've eaten at this restaurant numerous times over the past 30 years. This meal was the first that I was ever disappointed in the quality and preparation of the food. Ownership has changed hands and the original ones would be a 'tough act to follow'. Hopefully, they can use this critique to address some issues.More

The Hearthstone has been a favorite for years. However, things have changed and not for the better. The prices have risen as the quality and enjoyment have fallen. My patty melt was very greasy and the fries were cold and rubbery. The cheddar ale soup...was still a plus. There are oddities now that never existed before. An example would be that no rolls or bread are served while waiting for our meals. It was a long wait. You could ask for some if you wanted to pay 50 cents each. I found this to be a strange business practice. I felt that care of the customer was not a high priority.More
