We visited on a rainy Wednesday but the staff greeted us and the restaurant was about half full for breakfast at 11 am. There is a huge menu and the food is plentiful. I had the famous pastie but I did not like it. Hub's breakfast was good. Good coffee, nice waitresses, time to visit.
Just a note about "Cherokee". We recognize this appropriation of native culture as inherently unjust. However I think the history of our country includes huge amounts of appropriations that were not meant to denigrate the native culture. Like many forms of racism, its existence is a current historical marker and cultural criticism of certain parts of the American experience. Recognizing our complete history with all its joys and uglies is important. For midcentury kitsch, this is a great example!

All the people who eat here seem to come from “next door”. If you want to meet the inhabitants of the neighborhood this is the place. The food is good, the service is fine and the decor is charming. A restaurant not to be missed.

They steal - do not go here. They charged our card twice, said there "was an error" and that they needed another card. They charged that one as well - overcharging us by about $100. They slightly altered the $ amount when they charged the first card for a second time. If it was an accident, why would the bill change? It wouldn't. But different amounts keep credit card companies from detecting the fraud. I hoped it was a misunderstanding, despite how bad it looked. So I drove all the way down there, baby in tow. When I got there I explained what happened only for them to rudely dismiss me and walk away. They said the manager wasn't there so too bad. First of all, I find it very hard to believe that they were operating without anyone of authority present. Second, I insisted they at least call the manager or do something to return the money they wrongfully took, but they refused. They claimed they didn't have contact information for the manager. Finally as a concession and to get me to leave, they told me to leave my name and number and that the manager would call me to fix it. No surprise - they never called me back. Absolutely awful.

We come to Muskegon on a fairly frequent basis (a couple times per year on average) and we always stop by the Cherokee. It has a real Home Town look and feel. The staff is like (and probably is) family. Families aren't perfect BTW! They are friendly, attentive and prompt. The breakfast pastie takes the concept of biscuits and gravy to a whole new level. The hash browns and home fries are the best. Locals (including my in-laws) love this place. The rest - sorry - who cares. Maybe they should stay home. Anyway - thanks for always being here!!

I cannot imagine how old the carpet is in there, but there seem to be a layer of asphalt down the middle of the aisles. As is typical for these old beat up places that suffered due to the destruction of the industrial middle class, quality slid and no one picked up the slack. Sorry for the slam, but its' time to move on,

I really enjoyed the environment at this restaurant. The food was as to be expected. Old school mom n pop style food at a decent price yet not much to rave about.

Compared to the myriad of generic chain restaurants that are to be found in Muskegon, Cherokee is an original gem with outstanding food and service. Yes, it's kitschy but that's part of the charm. We will be back.

My wife and I were headed to the SS Silversides Museum and stopped by for lunch. We had two perch sandwiches which were a break from the items you usually see on lunch menus. Service was good and the prices were reasonable

My husband & I took our best friends & their two kids under five out for breakfast before our flight home. The waitress was very accommodating to the little ones, even as they got antsy through our meal. Food was good, priced reasonably.

Lived in west MI for decades but had never stopped here until today. Old school type of place, nothing fancy but that was what I expected. Many choices in the breakfast menu
and the food arrived quickly. Food was OK, quantities were ample and off we went. Hard working wait staff, that's for sure. Nice employees. Looks like a lot of regular customers were here during visit.

Fun local neighborhood restaurant that's mostly for breakfast and lunch. They may serve dinner but we are there for breakfast. Service is pretty quick and prices are low.
