Welcoming and kind staff. Excellent knowledge of the Italian language. Very fresh fish displayed at the table on a tray for your choice. Excellent cuisine, light and without excess seasonings to make the most of the excellent raw materials. Excellent fish broth, grilled snapper and scorpion fish cooked to perfection accompanied by simple and tasty side dishes. The approximately 225 euros in cash paid by 4 were certainly consistent and correct for how much we ate and drank.

Absolutely superb from the greeting by our waiter to the farewell at the end. We started with the mixed seafood cocktail and a shrimp salad, followed by the house specialty brodetto (traditional Croatian fish soup, made with the fresh fish we chose right from the platter offered to us), served on polenta. All the food was outstanding. Even the basic house wine, local from Vis, was amazing. Service was attentive and helpful without being intrusive. And the garden setting right by the waterfront was beautiful. 100% recommended.

We visited this place twice, once for dinner and once for a late lunch. Great food both times, featuring a nice assortment of starters, a wide selection of fish for the main course, and typical local desserts to finish off. The minute differences appear with the service: while impeccable at lunch time, it may vary during dinner when the place is full; nothing serious though. In the town of Vis, this is surely the #1 restaurant. (To see which one is #1 in the island, find my other reviews of Vis restaurants.) Make sure you book your table: for dinner, make it two days in advance.

The setting is nice until you notice the servers smoking their cigarettes right behind your table, which really ruins the ambiance and overwhelms the senses. The shrimps grandfather’s style were good (little shrimps cooked with salt and pepper) - nothing remarkable but good. The tuna tartare was good (sweet and hot). The cuttlefish risotto was a joke (they served it with regular rice instead of Arborio rice). I ended up feeding a lot of the fish to the stray cat wandering the restaurant (100% worth feeding the cutie, see photo of them snoozing after their meal). I wouldn’t go back and I don’t recommend.

We dined twice in Pojoda on our recent holiday. Greeted by my favourite waiter (and local cricketer) Stanko, when I asked if anything had changed on the menu, his reply was "only the prices". Restaurants on Croatian islands have become very expensive, but the best ones still offer great value and great food. Pojoda is one of the best although its concept, offering a wide range of what are described as appetisers, but are actually well made and filling variants on traditional dishes cooked by fishing households over several generations, is not immediately obvious and not always explained clearly. It is worth occasionally spending even more money on fresh fish, always cooked to perfection, but combining these appetisers is the best way to go. My favourites - tuna tartar topped with local caviar and in a spicy marinade; and octopus polpeta. One more thing, Pojoda is full most evenings in summer, often with large groups of yachting types. Reserve a couple of days ahead or, even better, go for lunch which allows you to enjoy the ambience of the beautiful shaded garden and, most of the time, there will only be a few tables occupied. Tell Stanko I say hi and, be assured, you will receive excellent service whether you spend a fortune or decide on the simpler dishes.

Fish is expensive - but the price for this (half) fish is much too high! The fish shown was halved and did not weigh the promised 3 kg! There were seven of us and without the side dishes we would have been hungry. €407 was a total rip-off. We will definitely never go there again.

Restoran Pojoda is a lovely garden restaurant. Our food was very good, & the service was lovely, but unfortunately, the whole experience was spoiled at the end by the SHOCKING price of our fish! To cut to the chase: €101 / 770kn for one average sized John Dory, for 2 people!! (You can see the size of one fillet, on my plate, in photos, at the start of our meal.) NOT including fries (€4 /30kn), garlic + herb oil dressing (€3.15 /24kn) Altogether, the main course cost almost €110 for grilled fish, fries & dressing! And this is not Michelin! When we'd decided to order fresh grilled fish, which is priced per kg, we were shown a tray of fish. This was our 3rd night ordering fish like this, in different restaurants on Vis. So, we were accustomed to the fact that it's priced for the full raw fish. We picked the John Dory, which looked to be an average sized one that would yield 2 decent fillets. I've bought full John Dory myself, & filleted it, so I know what I'm looking at. Should mention here that buying full fish per kg is way, way cheaper than buying prepped, filleted fish, which takes time, which you pay for. However, lifting cooked fillets off the bone takes moments! A generous raw fillet per person would be 180g. An average full John Dory, therefore, to feed 2 people, should weigh just under a kg. The price on the menu was 550kn /€72 per kg. We reckoned on paying about €65 - €70 for the average sized fish we picked......Evidenced by my photo of one fillet. Fish is VERY expensive in Croatia!! But it's a nice upmarket restaurant, so we expected this. Not 50% MORE. On our bill, the weight given for the fish was 1.4kg!! That's a massive fish!! And, we'd no way to verify this, as it wasn't weighed in front of us. By my reckoning, a 1.4kg John Dory would easily feed 4 people. That's not the size we got. We'd had a starter, & we were still able to finish the fish. (Starter was shrimp salad, easily enough to do 2 or 3 people. €12.50 /95kn) Local Vugava wine same price as everywhere (ca. 200 kn / €26) Altogether, 1 shared starter, bread & oil, John Dory fish & fries for 2, a bottle of local Vugava, & a bottle of sparkling water, the bill was 1155kn /€152.

We ate here it all started pretty good in early great bottle of wine and then we waited and waited the restaurant filled up we were shown the fish and menu and then 2 hours before any recognition. I was actually ready to walk but the boat skipper said no. I asked 4x how much longer..!!! Now I wouldn’t have minded waiting if it was all fair in love and war but no nearly every table was served and finishing. A table behind us of 6 arrived at 9 and were eating before us. Good old customer care costs nothing but ignoring customer unacceptable. Great fish though..!!!!

We chose tuna tartare and "alla nono" shrimp for appetizers, and both dishes exceeded our expectations. The tuna was accompanied by toasted bread and butter, while the shrimp, served individually, were excellent due to their preparation and marinade. For the main course, we inquired about the day's fresh catch and were shown a variety of fresh fish. We had the option to choose the fish we wanted, so we decided on a 0.8kg škarpina. We also ordered mangel with potatoes as a side. The waiter filleted the fish and served it on our plates along with utensils. The flavor of the fish was exceptional. Moving on to dessert, we ordered viške cvite, which perfectly complemented the entire meal and were, of course, delicious. To drink, we ordered a bottle of wine and a bottle of mineral water. The quality of the wine was superb and paired wonderfully with the food we ordered. Throughout our dining experience, the waiter was courteous and fully dedicated to ensuring we had a great time.

What wonderful service from the minute we entered the restaurant. My wife had the seafood cocktail, and I had the fish soup we shared both, and they were superb, we shared a Red Snapper, which was just so fresh and perfectly cooked. No room for desert. A fine bottle of Istrian white wine and all for €114, unquestionably the best meal we had in Croatia.

We had a really lovely meal here the other evening. The surroundings inside are very pleasant and as more diners arrived it had a good atmosphere. The fish soup as a starter was delicious, a nice clear broth with bones removed and chunks of fish meat added. It came in a large tureen, and there was enough for two full plates each. !!! For main courses the bean & pasta dish and cuttle fish risotto were perfect. Service was very efficient and most of the waiting staff were friendly and smiling... Prices for food and drinks were reasonable for the quality. An enjoyable meal.

We dined here at the recommendation of our AirBNB hosts, and we are so glad we did! I recommend making a reservation as they were quite full, but they found us a table since we were eating early in the evening. Our waiter was a delight, and the fresh seafood was the best we had in Croatia.

This restaurant came highly recommended. I had lunch there. It wasn't busy. At most five tables were occupied including the one I was sitting at. I'm a vegetarian. The menu didn't have any options which were either meat or fish free. I waited for a long time before the waiter returned for my order. I explained what I didn't eat and he showed me three starters which could be prepared without fish/meat. Some time later a small dish of warm pearl barley and beans arrived. He offered to bring me some bread. Before this appeared he had changed table cloths, brought people drinks, taken a card transaction...The bread was nothing special. I have travelled extensively throughout Croatia and know how wonderful their bread can be. I finished my meal and waited... and waited. Finally, I got up and picked up a menu. Some time later the waiter attended to me. I requested the dessert I wanted; this turned out not to be available and I didn't fancy the only two which were. The only time that waiter moved was when I asked for the bill. This was an expensive meal ( for what it was) and very disappointing. It was not value for money and I spent a tedious amount of time watching others being served while I was ignored. Don't believe the hype about this place. If you're a vegetarian find somewhere else.

We had a wonderful evening at Pojoda! Our family of six were taken well care of by Nayo (forgive me if spelled wrong!) He asked what we preferred and expertly guided us through the menu, selecting portions based on everyone’s preferences. He also presented us with several fresh fish to choose from and explained each one to us. None of us had tried the red scorpion fish, so Nayo told us we must. It was one of the best fish we’ve ever eaten. Yes, the restaurant makes it known that your reservation is for two hours and I suspect that when things are really busy, they hold you strictly to that. We were told that our table was available to us from 7-9. We arrived early and were taken care of, but not rushed off after nine, in fact we were finishing up at 930 or so.

I have been coming to Pojoda for more than twenty years and it used to be the only restaurant open in the evenings out of season. Sadly the owner Zoran died last year. Happily though, the standards remain very high, The service is excellent and very friendly, the fish cooked to perfection for our group of ten. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening. David
