The curry for the curry rice was superb - flavorful and rich. So good I slurped all the excess up. Not many places to eat on the island but this is one good spot.

Biggest place in the village and therefore most likely to be open. Extensive menu but lacks the local flair compared to other restaurants. Could be crowded in peak season.
Came here after a nice bicycle ride around the island. We ordered the hamburger rice set (pork patty and beef patty with cheese and tomato sauce) with rice, and the tempura noodle set. The hamburger patty set is quite a comfort food. They are not...the typical beef burgers you get in America but they are Japanese style, which means they are thicker with onion and spice blended in. They also goes great with the rice as they are more flavourful. The beef patty is topped with tomato and cheese, while the pork patty has another tomato based sauce. Both are equally delicious. I also tried the noodle. The noodle is the local buckwheat noodle which is somewhat like Italian spaghetti but a bit thicker, in a soy sauce soup and tempura of local prawn, bittermelon, ube (sweet purple potato) and eggplant. Both are served quick, hot and delicious. Staff speaks some English and the menu has drawings and photos for easy understanding. The building is also reminiscent of a Hawaiian tiki house, made of untreated wood with exposing rafters and beams. Very natural and rustic. There are also lots of interesting sculptures outside which you can look at. Definitely won't disappoint you.More
Visited during off season. The place was crowded but the food was good. They only accept credit card if the amount is over 3000JPY.
There aren't many restaurants on Taketomi and finding one that's open is sometimes a bit of a mystery! Kanifu had a good wide selection on the English language menu. We had the three meat special and tempura set. The meat wasn't bad but not great...- ginger pork was pretty good though. The tempura batter was a bit soggy, not as good as most street cafes in Tokyo.More
You won't find many selections on Taketomi Island. You'll find good food here considering the options available to you on the island. The hamburger steak (Ishigaki Beef) is excellent. The restaurant is conveniently located in the middle of the island. Don't be limited by the...dinner menu, as they are able to cook items on the lunch menu as well on your request.More
I can't say that there are many choices when it comes to restaurants on the island. Well at least not nearby where the water buffalo carts are. This restaurant is about a 5 minute walk from it. We basically passed by this whilst taking the...water buffalo cart tour and decided to come back after we finished the tour. The food here was great. We basically ordered the hamburger steak and a beef curry. Both were delicious and I was positively surprised about the quality on this tiny island. Obviously it was not going to give you a big wow but nonetheless a very nice local restaurant in the area.More
The food here is absolutely gorgeous, highly recommend. We had pork curry - our favourite dish of the night, and definitely our top 3 dish during our stay in japan. We also tried the local beef with salad - better than carpaccio and the grilled...squid. Menu in English as well which helps!More
Ishigaki beef salad and pork cutlet rice both superb. Only downside was that it was a wee bit warm inside (only fans) but not too bad.
