Worth the visit, but maybe not on a big occasion

A group of four seniors went on a weekday afternoon about 2pm. There was a nice crowd and our server was reasonably efficient. The fish dip appetizer is very tasty, but it is a small serving. They provide 6-8 larger pieces of toast and no where near enough dip to spread on even half of them. The cod was very salty, the walleye was good, the perch was also good but the portion and pieces again were not large. I had the smoked brisket. Taste was very good, but there were several slices in the 1lb serving that were all fat. We did not have dessert. Overall we enjoyed our time, but it is not going to be in any kind of regular rotation of favorite restaurants.

Enjoyable day and meal in Marine City, MI

My husband and I took a trip to Marine City on a recent Saturday. We had never been there and enjoyed the local shops and the park by the water. For lunch we ate at Marine City Fish Company. We had never been there but heard good things about it. This was an awesome dining experience and we really enjoyed our lunch. You can dine outside or inside and there are 2 levels. I recommend upstairs, as you get a great view of the water. The service was very good and our waitress was very attentive. My husband ordered perch and I had the cod. My husbands order came out wrong as he ordered breaded perch and received fried, but they remade the meal and within 10 minutes, he had the correct order. The fish was amazing and probably one of the best I have tasted. It is a casual atmosphere, and there is also a bar downstairs. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to the area. If you come anytime after 1 or 2, you may have a wait, so reservations may be a good idea. Well worth the wait! Joyce K Warren, MI

Best seafood restaurant, period!!

We had heard about this place from several different people that loved this place and after reading all the reviews decided to try it out. This place is fantastic! Despite the fact they were accommodating huge party the hostess was very welcoming and with 30 minutes, we were seated. The food is second to none and our waitress Katelynn was awesome. We live about an hour away but decided this place is worth the drive and plan to return.

Not as good as it used to be

We used to look forward to going to the Marine City Fish Company. It has a great location on the water and the food and service has always been great. We decided to visit on a Tuesday night for the all you can eat perch special. I double checked the website to make sure they were still offering it and it was listed. When we got there, the waitress told us that they only offer that during the winter months, but that I could order the dinner off the menu (for a higher price) I mentioned that it was still on the website. She apologized and sent the manager back to "explain". She gave me some lame excuse about the website designer not keeping up with the website. I showed her that the ad didn't say anything about it being seasonal, or showed any expiration date, and told her that's what I came for. She got snippy with me and said there was nothing she could do and walked away. We should have gotten up and left, however we stayed and ordered dinner. The clam chowder was like white water and the fish was just mediocre. Sadly, I doubt we will be back.

Travelled about thirty minutes drive to join friends for dinner. I decided on the fish Tacos, (assemble your own), but wish I hadn’t. The fish strips (four or five) were dry and void of seasonings, the tortillas served soft were cold and dry— almost stale tasting, the salsa plain—nothing had even a hint of regular Mexican seasonings in the entire dish. I started with a small bowl of chowder which was thin, watery, had very few clams and lacked seasoning. I did not finish it. I left quite hungry as a result. Frankly the tacos and chowder although edible were probably the worst I’ve had. (Sorry just being honest here— but as we were guests of regulars didn’t want to complain). On a brighter note two members of our group had the all you can eat fish and chips, and devoured them. Service was excellent, (reservations) but we were seated in a sub par location (group of five), which detracted from our experience. Not quite sure I would visit there again. At the very least I would opt for something else in the menu—because I believe in second chances (-:

Although we reserved early for 4 people and promised us free choice of place. we were initially pushed to a bench in a corner. We were pretty much isolated there. At our request, we were allocated a table that was also not optimal, at least we were secluded among people and not in a corner. The dishes were unfortunately not good. Pretty greasy, the vegetables not recognizable, since indefinable and burned. Fish partly completely dry and very greasy. Neither the house chips nor the mashed potatoes were edible.. What a shame!

Things sure have changed and not for the better!

Sadly, very disappointed. My husband and I went for our 31st anniversary. It has been about five years since we have visited Marine city Fish Company. We both had the same dish that we had had in the past. The quality of the food has drastically changed. Not for the better. I had the Lobster ravioli. I don’t think there were any lobster in the ravioli and the wonderful delicious sauce that used to accompany. It was thin and bitter. In addition, my shrimp were chewy and very overdone. Even our soup was lukewarm. We won’t be back.

Was not impressed with the food at all. Cod fish sandwich was the size of a single perch filet and absolutely tasteless. Clam chowder was thin and was sent back. Smoked salmon was so so. Go elsewhere

We ended up eating here twice. We were in town over Easter and lots of places were closed. We loved it. The prices were really reasonable. They had a good kids menu and all of our food was great. While we went for seafood and loved it I found the basil vinaigrette salad dressing to be very unique and definitely worth a try. The servers were friendly both nights and we loved the view.

Good Walleye

Called early in the day to see if reservations were recommended and was told we should just show up. When we did, there was an almost hour wait. Didn’t think to estimate restaurant capacity but it was considerable, and maybe even a bit of a warren. Fortunately also considerable was the number of servers, who appeared to be everywhere at every time. Server Sydnie was friendly and effective, checking in with us often and efficiently making right an order error in the kitchen. We were continuing our weeklong unofficial walleye fish, chips, and slaw marathon at area restaurants. My dining partner pointed out that the slaw contained dill, which she liked. Myself, it was okay; matter of taste I suppose. I had the rubbery shoestring fries; she went for the dry actual potato chips. Neither potato side would be in any danger at all of receiving an award. But the fried breaded walleye was excellent; the best of the marathon by far. That walleye would earn my own award. Prices were in line with other restaurants that we had visited. Considering further, I’m thinking I should say again how great the service was. I should have left a much larger than standard tip for Sydnie.

Easy to Love this place

I highly recommend this place. Worth the trip if you're able to drive it from your location. It's just across the street from the St. Clair River and you can watch the freighters pass by while you enjoy the restaurant. We were there for lunch. I had the Cod and my sister had the Perch. Both were wonderful. The server Gina was fantastic. Any restaurant would be happy to have her as an employee. Prices were resonable and the portions were just right. While I enjoyed the Cod I had a piece of the Perch and would order that on my next trip.

Yummy Food—Good Service

We stopped in here on a Sunday evening after this place was recommended. The fish is awesome. The meatball sandwich was just as described. Delicious. The coconut chicken over rice was quite tasty. Only downfall was a hair in my coleslaw. The cheesecake was good but the raspberry sauce was a little sweet for me. We will definitely be back even though we live about an hour away. Oh an the cabbage sup was very good. Even the bread was good.

Misleading Menu

Very disappointed I ordered Lake Perch dinner last night. It was not Yellow Perch as it has been in the past. Anyone from the Great Lakes that sees Lake Perch on a menu would assume it to be Yellow Perch. Please change the menu or the Perch!

Outstanding Dinner

My husband is allergic to seafood - but I was craving salmon and after a long day of work, driving, more work...we were in the area and decided to try the Marine City Fish Company. We called first to make sure there were things (usually chicken) he could have without having to use an Epi-Pen during dessert, and they were very helpful. Order the cole slaw to have as a salad, and it will change your life. Yes, it's that good! Dinner was Creole Seared Salmon with mixed veg and mashed potatoes for me. Stupid good. Just perfectly cooked salmon, lightly sauteed summer veg and the most delicious mashed potatoes I think I've ever had. My husband had beef tenderloin medallions, "Cajun Angels" and since he's allergic to seafood, they dropped the shrimp and added another beef medallion. It's embarrassing to say, but I own it...we both would have been very happy licking our plates! The wait staff was excellent and they worked closely with us to make sure no EMS was needed at any point, and I can't tell you how good dinner was. If it's nice like it usually is here in Michigan in August, eat outside, and if available, go upstairs. There's a beautiful view of the river, and it was lovely to see a lot of people, including families, out getting ice cream, walking their dogs, jogging, etc. down a main street.

Was great, now trendy restaurant

Marine City fish company used to be one of the best eateries in southeast Michigan. now it is a trendy restaurant to go. sure they sell a lot of mediocre food which I must say they used to sell a lot of good food limited to their seating. if you want long wait time at a popular place to have mediocre food go there. I used to go there but now I would rather go to Anita's or Riviera Riveria has a better view of the river Anita's has a back porch. I used to tell the world to go to Marine City fish company they were one of the best eateries in southeast Michigan not anymore. I'll tell people if you want a really hip trendy spot with mediocre food go to Marine City fish company.
