The restaurant is beautiful and charming, with a view overlooking the marina on Mackinac Island. We had a wonderful waiter, and our meal was perfect and on point! I ordered the whitefish on a pecan plank, and my partner ordered the prime rib done to...perfection! It was a wonderful meal.More

Worth the splurge for a special occasion. Try at least one of the specials. Excellent prime rib and service. Best key lime pie ever. Live piano. Average 4 person tab $350-450 including alcohol and dessert.

We went for breakfast on our first day at the hotel, not realizing it was $35 per person (and not even a buffet). Although the service was fantastic, the breakfast was a complete joke. The portions were small, the food was questionable and one of...guests in our party thought the eggs may even be powdered. At the prices charged, we expected a phenomenal breakfast and this was not even close. Head into town and try the Pancake House (which we went to twice) or somewhere else. The owners of this restaurant should be ashamed.More

Walked into this restaurant earlier today and asked if we could reserve an outside table for dinner. The answer was yes, so we booked a certain table for two on the patio for 630p this evening. We arrived promptly for our dining experience, and were...told that an inside table was ready for us. I knew better than to argue with them, but I didn’t have to dine there either.More

Overall, The Island House hotel is very cute, quaint, and has friendly staff (though not entirely knowledgeable...the front desk staff did not know what a "concierge" is). The dinner experience was pleasant. The food was delicious and portion sizes were very abundant. Our server was...very friendly, talkative, and professional. The service for the bottle of Champagne I ordered was absolutely incorrect on all levels, but thankfully the Champagne itself was phenomenal. For breakfast the following morning, I ordered the smoked salmon as a take-away order with a coffee and a coffee cake slice. The coffee was served in a kid-sized cup that was lukewarm and they forgot the coffee cake (though I was not charged). The salmon entree was something to be desired (see photo). I laughed because I thought I must have been being pranked. The menu said it included red onion, chopped egg, capers, tomato, and cucumbers. The to-go box looked more like a cook sprinkled some items and that's it. Very disappointed and ended up visiting a cafe for a coffee and pastry in town afterward.More

Cannot imagine a better 18th Anniversary experience! Booked a table with the 1852 Grill Room and requested a table with a view. We got that and much (MUCH) more. Service was phenomenal. From the Host who congratulated us on our Anniversary at the door to...Oscar, our waiter, who was professional, immensely helpful, and friendly throughout the meal. Dinner: cannot imagine better on Mackinac Island. Local fish dishes (Walleye and Whitefish) were flavorful, fresh and piping hot. Our daughter ordered the daily special, Steak au poivre…so tender that a knife was barely needed. Cannot thank the 1862 Grill Room enough for this magical experience on a very special day. You are our favorite on the Island, BY FAR!More

After being on the Island for a few days we just wanted something simple. The 1852 Grill Room was in the hotel we were staying at so nothing could be more simple than that right? It started out getting our table right in front of...the window looking out over the marina. It was beautiful and we were all excited in anticipation. We started our order with an appetizer of shrimp and grits. The shrimp was overcooked and the grits came with a tomato sauce without much flavor. We gave the chef the benefit of the doubt trying something different and perhaps just wasn't for our taste. Next was our entree's. We ordered the lamb chops and the breaded whitefish. The food came out so fast I was a little surprised. The whitefish was overcooked and the breading was so thick you could taste the fish. The lamb chops were cold and none of the fat was rendered or cooked which gives the lamb chops such incredible flavor. It was as if our food was microwaved. The vegetables that came with the lamb chops were excellent and so was the cheesecake we ordered for dessert. The service was also excellent. My kids ordered off the kids menu. My daughters mac n' cheese was pretty standard which is great because it's what kids like. My son's cheeseburger was also good (I snuck a bite) and so were his fries. I've been going to Mackinac Island for 25 years and I'm disappointed with this experience and would never go back. Especially because this is one of the most expensive places to eat on the Island.More

I Love Mackinac Island and have eaten at most of the restaurants and the food here is amazing! It is expensive, not Grand Hotel dining room expensive but don’t expect it to be cheap. I think we could have gotten by without the Sid’s as...most of our meals came with something. The only thing I didn’t like were the au gratin potatoes, I don’t think they were cooked all the way. Overall it’s really good.More

This would be our second time at 1852 and let me say the service, food and ambiance was spectacular. My spouse and I was there last August and decided to go this year again for his birthday. We did not regret being there! Fred, our...server was A-MAZING! He was our server the first time we dined and we had to request him a second time! He was very attentive and just set the pace for our evening. Fred is a major part of our experience and is a great asset to the restaurant, we will definitely be back!More

My wife and I decided to try it out our last night on Mackinac. I will say the bar was set pretty high by the woman at the front desk of our hotel. The views are amazing, you're sitting right on the water and you...get to see the ferries come and go, and we were also very lucky to see a Freighter pass while we were having dinner. But the prices were rather high for what we got.More

The ambiance here was great. It was a beachy casual vibe with a live piano playing softly. Good mix of families and couples. Food was outstanding. I had the filet and a few drinks. If you like fish they have many. The wait staff was...excellent. Very prompt and the food came out quickly. They gave us $30 gift cards at check in and we both used them at dinner so it lowered the price by $60 so that was great. Overall I would recommend 10/10.More

We visited the 1852 Grill Room last Tuesday evening for dinner and had a wonderful experience. I had the Kobe Burger and my husband had the prime rib with a side of parmesan risotto. I'm not ashamed to say I stole his risotto...it was *so*...fabulous. We seriously considered going back the next evening and just ordering two sides of it - SO GOOD. We followed dinner with a fudge martini and creme brulee. The only disappointed was the creme brulee...it was very nearly scrambled eggs. BUT, by that point we were so delightedly full that we didn't care. Our server was Fred and he was wonderful...knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. We'd highly recommend 1852 Grill Room for a fabulous meal when you visit Mackinac Island.More
