Went here our first night in town. Decided to eat outdoors because it was sunny and gorgeous out. Went up a steep flight of stairs and there was a high top table pretty much at the top of the stairs, so had only a small square of space for one person to stand and my partner had to remain on the stairs until one of the servers noticed us and asked if we wanted a table. They led us to another high top that was up against the railing in the direct, late afternoon sun. Absolutely no shade whatsoever. We decided to give it a shot since we had been travelling and were hungry. They put up a full, clear, thick plastic curtain all along the bottom half of the railing, which already had sturdy fencing to protect folks from falling through, so all the plastic did was block all breeze and the furniture was all chrome silver, so the reflections coming off these tables and chairs were HOT and blinding. People at a couple of the tables around us had to keep rearranging their chairs to avoid the glare coming off our table. My partner had a grilled sandwich and I had baked crab salad on a roll because salad offerings were limited, and the food was just okay. Definitely not great, but not horrible. There were no bev-naps used for our drinks so our glasses sweated so much condensation our table was basically a swimming pool for our plates. My crab salad was much more filler than crab, and had so much cream cheese (?) mixed in, the flavor of the crab was totally overpowered. Baking it resulted in it becoming so liquid that most of it slid off onto my plate by the time the server brought it to the table. By that time, my partner and I were sweating buckets with the sun beating on us and we just shoveled in the food so we could get our check paid and get out of there. Our glasses ran dry and we were looking for our server to get refills, especially with the heat coming off the silver table and the full sun on us. Our server was friendly, but not attentive. We will give this place another shot, but they really need to get an awning or some other form of shade for the several hours in the afternoon/evening when the sun drops below the roofline and beats in on diners. Makes for a really unpleasant experience.

We visited Blu Moon because their online menu listed salads. We chose the upstairs dining for the very nice terrace/patio seating. After a 45 min wait (at least) to be seated (partly our request to be seated in the front patio overlooking the street/lake versus the back area by the alley, and partly due to hostess error), we were informed by our waitress that the upstairs restaurant has a different menu - bar food only. Really wish we had known that the whole time we waited! So we altered our plans and ordered sandwiches. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. When it arrived, I thought it looked odd. It tasted good but not like chicken (it was rather bland). After a few bites, I asked the waitress if I had been given the right food. She looked at my plate and confirmed I had been given the (imitation) crab salad instead! I was horrified as I don’t eat seafood and had no idea if I was allergic to it (my immediate family members ARE allergic to it). My correct meal was eventually excellent (and complimentary) but I was very uncomfortable the rest of the meal. My companion had a very good burrito. Everyone’s inattentiveness to what they were doing (the hostess, the cooks and the waitress) plus having a limited menu in the outdoor area soured us on the venue, despite eventually enjoying our food.

The food was just okay, nothing special, just like the ambiance, but since dinner options are currently so sparse in Ludington, they are always busy and have long waits to get a table. They also overcharged my credit card which I only noticed when I checked the statement at home. When I called to have it fixed someone there told me to try to contact the owner on Facebook, which I did but after 3 days they still they did not do anything to correct the issue.

Our family’s family 5 didn’t know it was going to take 2 hours for a sandwich and hamburger to complete the order. I had to leave after the 90min mark to go get something to eat. Waitress wasn’t happy to lose half of the order tip, but we didn’t have the whole day to wait. My husband got the gyro, which had one thin piece of meat with an onion piece on the bread. Not worth $15. I would have taken a picture but he was so hungry he ate it. The hotdog looked good, a nice sized sausage. The mini taco appetizers were tiny (2 inches) deep fried things that came out of a box, not a regular taco. . It was a stressful interaction with the staff, reluctant to let us pay for what food we could get, so I could leave to find food. It looked like the nacho dishes were being made, so you might have luck with that.

I spent 20 minutes attempting to contact them by phone to place a to-go order until I tried online which only had a partial menu. I drove to the restaurant and Waited ONE HOUR for 1 sushi roll and an appetizer. As I waited, no one offered me a drink. An apology was given by a waitress s she gave me the bill. No recompense was offered despite the wait and lack of service.

1 Sept 21 - Had dinner at the Blue Moon 125 S James St. in Ludington. As we entered the establishment, we though it quite quaint and interesting with all the eclectic decoration and noted the place was full (later found out most restaurants in town were closed and this was the only one open). All four of us agreed we had one of the worst meals of our life!!!!!!!!. The appetizers of Coconut Shrimp were very GRITY. The Fish & Chips had what felt like bones in them, the Cold Slaw tasted sour! Why with the seafood it was like we were served the sand grit off the bottom of the fryer! Possibly the variety of “Stuff” they also serve tending towards the oriental or Mexican is the draw for the people in attendance, but again the seafood was awful!

During COVID 19 we have ordered carry out from many different places, and our dinner from Blu Moon was one of the best! We ordered appetizers and two dinners, and every item was delicious. We also ordered a bottle of wine, which was chilled. Highly recommend this terrific restaurant!

My family drove an hour to get a great take out meal. The food was impressively hot and fresh when we went to the lakeshore to eat it. It was absolutely delicious. The curbside services were outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a high quality experience! ❤️❤️

Note there are separate menus for the upstairs deck (more bar food) and the Bistro downstairs, which does have a little sidewalk seating. Because we learned about the separate menus in advance, we were able to view them online and decided to eat downstairs. When I checked in with the hostess, she told me it would be a 45 minute wait. I said that was fine, but wanted to confirm that was for downstairs. She snapped back that upstairs has a COMPLETELY different host stand and she has NO IDEA what their wait is. No worries, I told her. We preferred to eat downstairs. I get that she is probably asked that question 100 times a day. But you’re in a resort town. You’re going to have people unfamiliar with you restaurant operations. Our server was nice, but quite harried. She was the only person working all the tables out on the sidewalk. We started with salads, one small one large. Both came out the same size. Server agreed it looked small and said she would check with the kitchen. One salad was the fusion with green goddess. Which was divine. The honey lime vinaigrette on the mixed greens was also quite tasty. Our entrees were also both good. Although the pierogi bowl was rather small as an entree the flavor was quite complex. The Cuban melt was also good although the Asiago fries were underwhelming. Cocktails were solid. Although menu online was out of date, so one craft cocktail I had my heart on wasn’t available. When our server brought the check, we were still charged for a large salad. She apologized and promptly corrected it. All in all a good meal and we would return again to try other items on the menu.

Love the food here! The lobster nachos are my favorite and I can't get enough of them thru the summer. The suahi is great as well... tried it for the first time this summer and so glad I did. The upper deck is different than most restaurants downtown and we enjoy going up there throughout the summer, sad when it closes after labor day but the bistro is still open & they have a great selection down there as well. Staff is very friendly as well.

September 26, 2020. Called ahead for seating. Hostess told me it would be about 20 minutes and she would call my cell phone. We waited in the car and 45 minutes later, we just went in to hostess stand to inquire where we were on the list. We were planning ahead as one of us is diabetic and food schedules are important. The host and hostess at the stand said they had called me twice. I was in Michigan and they said their call would have been from a California cell number. I showed them my recent call history and assured them I had not received any calls. They dialed my number again and the call registered properly immediately. They said they didn’t know the problem but that we would have to be placed at the end of the line and wait all over again. I told them that wasn’t fair and they called the next people to the next table and told us we couldn’t be seated until all the other people on the list. We left. I own several homes in Ludington and always eat there weekly when I’m town. Will never go there again.

Stopped in on a Friday night when everything else was packed. Our server could best be described as efficient but unenthusiastic - she did the basics but clearly wasn’t in the mood. Oh well. This place has a separate sushi kitchen, but our server waived me off that. as they were backed up. Instead I had the French dip, which was excellent. My son loved the salmon special, while the rest of the family thought the steak, pierogies, and mac & cheese were subpar. (The pierogies came with a tear-open tube of cream cheese). Overall bill was probably 10% higher than the norm for the same food. I enjoyed it fine; the others not so much.

Things to know … two different menus and two different hostess stands/waiting lists for the downstairs bistro and the upstairs rooftop deck. The deck seems cool, but it’s kinda cramped and the views only so so. IMO not worth the wait. Which for us was an hour and 40 mins on a Sunday evening after we were given a 40-60 min window. Luckily we headed over to the park to play shuffleboard and kill some time. We preferred our previous dining experience downstairs with the bistro menu over the rooftop. But service was at least efficient if not overly friendly. Duck wontons were a bust. Bang bang shrimp was delish. Chili dogs were fine. Nico’s nachos were the best thing our table ordered.

The atmosphere here is eclectic moody. A mixture of old and unique. The lights are dim, but not too dark. I ordered 12 Wings ($15), 6 General Tso and 6 Bistro Bbq. The wings were very well cooked and had lots of meat on them. The General Tso is tangy and really tasty. For me the Bistro Bbq needs to be better. The bbq sauce wasn't bad, I just didn't like it. I definitely preferred the General sauce. For the main meal I ordered the Pot Roast ($15). This one is complicated. The meat of it was very tender and full of taste. The gravy in my opinion was yucky. It detracted from the meal. I scrapped off the gravy and just ate the meat. The Mashed potatoes and the corn  were both very good. The garlic bread was skippable! The service was excellent. Overall a 4 star review. Would I return? Yes, but I would skip bistro bbq and not get the pot roast again.

Outstanding service tonight at Blu Moon Bistro, downstairs, which has a different menu and wait staff than the upstairs rooftop deck. We prefer downstairs. Our food was fabulous, bang bang shrimp, enchiladas with barbacoa meat instead of taco meat (they were out) and the pierogi bowl. The enchiladas were a huge and satisfying entree. The pierogi bowl, although delicious, I’d rather small for an entree. Cocktails wee on point. And our wait for a table on a rainy Saturday night was about 25 minutes.
