Don't let the size or look of this sandwich shop deter you. While shopping in Leland, this is a great place to eat. Grab your sandwich and sit down by the water for a great meal. We have been wanting to eat here for years and finally this year we were hungry enough to order. We got a pretzel bread... More

No visit to the Leelanau peninsula is complete without a visit to historic Fishtown. That includes lunch from the Village Cheese Shanty. Located in Fishtown, the Cheese Shanty serves wonderful sandwiches. But it isn't a restaurant. Dining is at tables located around the area so weather is a consideration. Or get sandwiches and have a picnic on your own. Whatever... More

My daughter and I stayed at The Riverside Inn for 3 nights and got sandwiches at this shop 3 times!! They are that GOOD! The homemade pretzel bread is amazing and we wanted to buy the bread to take home but they do not sell it. We just may have to come back to visit soon!!

We had the Northshore sandwich and it was great...turkey, bacon, Swiss on a pretzel bun. Friendly staff. Great place for a quick sandwich or pita.

We stopped here before the ferry left to get our sandwiches etc for the day and loved the store itself. When we stopped and had lunch at the shipwreck on the island we were amazed at how good and filling their sandwiches are. We stopped back after our trip to buy more and their awesome unique cheeses.

The Village Cheese Shanty is part of the preservation of the Leland Fishtown. Walk through the split swinging doors and step back in time. To the left is a wide variety of beverages and straight ahead is an old glass case full of a wide variety of interesting cheeses. I asked about their horseradish cheddar and was offered a sample.... We stood in line to get a couple sack lunches to take with us on the ferry to North Manitou. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious! Very much worth the wait.

I have been visiting Leland from my hometown of Traverse City for 20 years. I went here with my girlfriend on recommendation of a family member who swears on this place. I was sadly disappointed. I had a beer box lunch, but none of what I had was very good. The beer selection for the deal limits you to PBR,... More

Famous for the pretzel bread, a soft roll with a lightly salted top. I had the North Shore with turkey, bacon and veggies. Swapped out Swiss cheese for Havarti which was excellent. The $9.25 bag lunch includes chips, pickle, a homemade chocolate chip cookie and a beverage. Definitely enough for 2.

My husband and I split the Lake Street sandwich on a pretzel bun. The pretzel bun was delicious, and the whole sandwich was great. We are not huge eaters, so this was a good amount of food for us. We went on a 90° day, and had to wait out back by the river for our food. There was plenty... More
