We were traveling back home to Missouri after attending a funeral earlier in the day. The wife searched for somplace to eat and came across Soup Spoon and we were intrigued by the menu.
We were seated quickly, server came by quickly to get our drink order. It took us about 20 to 30 minutes to figure out what we wanted because there were alot of interesting, tasty choices.
Want to thank Gabriel for being so patient with us a d answering all of my questions about the menu. If he didn't know he asked the chefs/cooks and got the answers. When we got ready to leave decided to get dessert for the wife to go with her leftover schnitzel. And a sandwich for me to have for dinner when we stopped for the night. He packaged everything up so liquids wouldnt make sandwhich soggy.
Also thank you to the chef/cook who talked to us and also answered questions we had about the food. Do not know his name but he was slim and had short blond hair.
All the food was well prepared. The fish chowder was flavorful and hot perfect for a cold day like today was. There take on a pork schnitzel was great. Would love the recipe for the sauce. Lol. The lamb meatballs were moist and full of flavor and of good size. Both entrees came with fresh green beans. Im not a fan, but these were great, I could have eaten another serving.
Now that we had our takeout eaten. The wife loved her goat cheese cheesecake. And the Deaner Schnitzel sandwich even though it was cold was very flavorful. I can just how good it would have been if i ate it freshly made.
Again thank you, you made a sad day better for us.

Wow, thank you so much Robert! I am so sorry for what brought you to find us, we are very sorry for your loss.
We love how engaged you and your wife were in the whole dining experience. A lot of thought and work go into each menu items, and being able to share this with our guests is always special. Gabriel is a great human being, we are lucky to have him as part of our family. We were so excited to share this with him, they do not always get the praise they deserve. Thank you again for giving us a try, and then taking the time to write such a warm review. We are humbled and forever grateful.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere and food when we ate lunch here. It's a very popular restaurant so we had to wait a little but we had a nice table and the crowd was not too loud. I think many were from local businesses on their lunch hour.

When traveling on business, one often settles for basic nutritional needs, not expecting pleasant, positive experiences. Soup Spoon Cafe delivered both. Interesting soup selection, great sandwich, a superb dessert, and some interesting conversation with other guests and management as well. Soup Spoon is a busy place, and we waited 15-20 minutes before being seated, but we were served very quickly after ordering - they put out an amazing amount of food quickly, with the hot stuff hot, and the cold stuff cold. Why is this feat so difficult for many restaurants? Soup Spoon Cafe was not even on our radar before traveling through western Lansing, but it will be on our short list of places to visit again on a return visit.

Would love to say that the majority of our wait was to be seated but it actually took us an hour to receive our food. Waited for 30 mins to be seated and the rest of the experience went downhill from there. Ordered 6 dishes: biscuits and gravy, french toast, southwest omelet, steak and eggs, veggie stir-fry with shrimp, and some sort of scrambled eggs. Received the biscuits and gravy after about 20 mins. Then after another 10 mins, the french toast came out. My starving family just ate it as it came...Then after about another 30 mins, the server came to say a couple of our dishes were up but she was waiting on the SW omelet. Husband tells her to bring whatever is up, out and that is when the scrambled egg dish and the stir-fry come out with hard, crusty cheese on top of the egg dish, from sitting. Nothing was that fabulous to say we'd give it another try. There was never an apology or explanation. So disappointing.

On our last visit we waited nearly 90 minutes for our food. When we asked if it was coming anytime soon, the manager said, "Can't you see we're busy?" I said, "not as busy as I've seen you before." He said, "well we have a party of 14." Ok...so maybe they don't know how to manage the place. Food was great but come on, we don't need excuses and if you know you're running behind, maybe you offer a little something like an appetizer to keep our mind off the waiting time.

Love Soup Spoon. It has always been our “go to” place when we are in Lansing. Today, it disappointed for the first time.
Ordered San Diego and Chesapeake bennies for breakfast on this Monday.
Poached eggs were all slightly undercooked where the whites were runny yet. Hollandaise on the Chesapeake eggs was cool to the tongue. Hash browns were over salted in spots. Avocado salsa on both plates showed the avocados were overripe and browned before being chopped into the salsa. The taste confirmed it. We left half of our dishes uneaten and our waitress did not ask how our meal was when picking up the plates or during billing.
I hope this was just an aberration by the cook this morning. I know staffing is tough these days.

Waste of time. We went on a weekend. Expected a wait. The waitress was nice and timed is 30-40 min wait. We waited about 20 before we were seated. From what i could tell, there were 3 waitresses working. The menu is quite large and looked promising.
The waitress did not come by much, we saw her 3 times over the course of an hour. I had to chase down 2 times across the restaurant.
We had steak and eggs, the steak was cold and chewy (gross).
Pancake for my son was burnt.
My Irish scramble had tiny, pieces of corned beef that were super hard to find. Mostly potatoes. I believe the menu stated freshly baked break, but it was stale and chewy.
All in all, to wait an hour for that quality of food and service was a waste of time.

Each time that my family has been there we have enjoyed the food, especially the the daily specials the cooks prepare, but the host (bald guy, glasses) has been incredibly rude and condescending to us. I don’t know what it is, maybe because we’re not locals, whom he seems to shmooze, or maybe we don’t look cool or hip enough to eat there, but he talked down to us each time and seemed dubious we could get a table.
Case in point, we showed up for dinner and decided to dine outside last summer. When rain clouds started coming in, along with wind, I asked what he could do to see about moving us inside. He sort of shrugged and said that’s where we chose to eat and that the rest of the restaurant was full and then disappeared back to his post. There were tornado sirens literally going off in town. Minutes later, our waiter, kindly found us a spot inside with no help from the host.
Even as we left the restaurant, he looked dead at us and didn’t even wish us a good evening, just stony silence.

The menu is very good with some options that are out of the ordinary. The food on all three occasions that I was there in February was excellent and service was outstanding. It's a quiet restaurant and a great place to go to talk with friends while enjoying a meal. Parking is somewhat limited in their lot, but there is also streetside parking available.

After college visit on the other side of the state, we decided to stop for dinner. What a pleasant surprise! The manager was amazing! Friendly, kind, knowledgeable and from our town.
Dishes pictures are: Petit Vegan Duo, Pesto Prima Vera, Reuben, Lamb Sliders. Everything was made from scratch, flavorful, and fresh.
We already are discussing plans for a future visit to try the French onion soup and bread pudding 😉

This family owned Restaurant is AWESOME. The menu far exceeds Soup! Their wide range of breakfast to lunch and dinner is varied and presents a wide variety of option dishes including soups.
If you are in Lansing Michigan this place is a must. Our family gathering were all more than pleased with the quality of food, menu options and excellent service.

First breakfast visit for two of our group of four. Breakfast is our favorite meal out and we were not disappointed. Place was consistently busy and we were there from 9:15am until 12:15 pm so we experienced both breakfast & lunch crowds. Eggs Your Way was tasty. Server was reasonably attentive given how many tables she was taking care of. Menu is quite impressive and we will surely be back!

There is a handsome gentleman (bald, wears nice suit, I did not catch his name) that usually works the pick-up/ host stand. He is amazing, very kind/ caring, very informative and clear. We need more of him in the world! I took the time to make this review just for him as he was THEE best employee I’ve come across at any establishment! The food here is very good and always taste fresh. I genuinely hope they stay in business forever <3

Worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Waitress was rude and unfriendly. Ordered the biscuits and gravy and biscuit was hard and gravy was cold plus waited close to an hour for our food :(

If your into being looked down on, dismissed and otherwise just inconveniencing a complete front staff… look no further. Our party of 8, drove out of our way to patronize a local company hours away from our own home only to feel a pretty cold shoulder. After gathering at our table and discussing our individual first impressions we mistakenly choose to proceed. Service did not improve and we felt obligated to finish once we found some of our meal was already down. The meals were over priced and under whelming. The only saving grace was I didn’t bring the rest of my family to endure the service and forfeiting more money.
