Sweetwater's Donut Mill is a family owned bakery located in southwest Michigan. The Garner Family has owned each of the 3 donut shops since the very beginning when they opened their doors in 1983. Each donut is handmade with the same quality ingredients that were used in the beginning, and the restaurants are proud of the fact that they have become a tradition for many families over the past 30 years.

This place is open 24 hours a day, and had a crazy number of people inside when we stopped by for a late morning donut (we missed breakfast). The interior atmosphere is industrial chic (aluminum siding, etc.). I understood what all the fuss was about after biting into my glazed raised donut. It was a super fresh, perfectly proofed yeast-based donuts. I'm a sucker for a good glazed-raised, and this was the second-best I've ever had (I would have said the VERY best, except that yesterday I was given a donut from Spunky Dunkers in Palatine, Illinois, and that one was pure heaven on earth, just edging out Sweetwater Donut Mill by the barest of margins!). I plan on stopping by Sweetwater Donut Mill as a DESTINATION spot whenever I visit the Kalamazoo area. I took a cinnamon roll to go. They are ENORMOUS! A single one could feed two, maybe three people (took me three sittings to finish it)!

This is a Kalamazoo landmark. Whenever I’m in town I always come here and am never disappointed. The quality is always good, there is always a huge selection (no matter what time of day I arrive) and the prices are good. They have a variety of cake donuts, yeasted donuts and other pastries like giant black raspberry fritters, cinnamon rolls the size of a plate. I highly recommend it!

I had heard about Sweetwater's from a friend who heard we were bringing our student up for a college visit. They were not wrong. Upon entering the smells emanating from the kitchen set your mouth watering. The choices were amazing. I ended up getting an apple fritter that was big enough for 2 meals! The cake as well as raised donuts were equally delicious. My daughter had the "Homer Simpson". I would weigh 300 pounds if I had to drive past this place on a daily basis.

Visited on a househunting trip earlier this year and received stale donuts with little flavour. Figured that 6p may have been too late, despite them still being a 24h shop.
Visited again after moving here to feed our relocation crew. The movers complained about how stale the donuts were and asked where they were from so they could avoid it.
Tried a third time while running some morning errands. I dove in as soon as I got back to my car and all four were stale and clearly not fresh.
At the urging of a friend who grew up with Sweetwater’s, I regrettably gave them a fourth chance, only to be shorted a donut that I was charged for AND still receive stale, dried out donuts.
I truly don’t understand why people think these are so good. Is my luck just that bad? The cake donuts are either stale or overbaked. The yeast are stale, dried-out or overcooked and the filled were stale and had their filling separating.
When you’re bested by Meijer, I don’t think you should be in contention for “the world’s best.”
Kudos for having lots of flavour ideas, but make sure you can do the basics.

We stopped for a mid morning treat at Sweetwater’s earlier this week and were blown away by the selection of donuts, rolls, and muffins. The donut sizes went from normal size to gigantic! The muffins were individually wrapped in plastic wrap in the case and did not look appealing because of that. The donuts, on the other hand, made choosing just one impossible! We were very happy with our donut choices and enjoyed every bite! We also stopped here on the way home mid afternoon. We got donuts to eat and a gigantic apple fritter to go. The fritter was disappointing because it was not “apple ish” inside, just a lot of tasteless dough. So we ate the outside and threw the inside away . My last comment would be on the outdated bathrooms that desperately need a good cleaning and update. Nevertheless, this is a great stop for yummy, affordable donuts and coffee!

I have an allergy heavy household and so I reached out to Sweetwater's to learn a bit more about their process and ingredients. Their response was thorough and quick. I really appreciated their understanding, and ability to give me detailed information. I encourage others with allergy considerations to contact them, but for our relatively mild tree-nut allergy, it was nice to know that nothing other than peanuts was used! On top of this great interaction, the donuts are always a big hit. The grasshopper donuts may have been the highlight, although the blueberry cheescake donut was also well loved! Thank you!

Our order was a take-out for the large group we were traveling with, so I didn't have a chance to see their shop. Despite it being such a large order (several dozen) everything was fresh and delicious. I had been stuck with sub-par hotel lobby coffee for the past couple of days, so especially appreciated their donut shop blend. It was brought to our offsite location still very hot.

Get some! Pull off the highway and enjoy quality comfort food. This place took me back. Ever noticed how Dunkin don't taste and have the same consistency of frosting? Sweetwater doesn't skip on quality or frosting. These donuts are fantastic! Coffee is off the hook also! I loaded up. You can always tell quality when it still taste great the next morning!

Treated the department to donuts ~ there is no comparison to Sweetwater's. Exceptional donut selection, fast friendly service. SUPER affordable. TIP: Call ahead for larger orders. Or specialty orders. Some of their donuts are only made 1x per day and sell out in the mornings. There is a good reason why!

I've tried several locations and times and just don't get the hype. Our Plainwell Wesco Donuts are simply better, every time.

If you go inside to get your doughnut or whatever it’s all good. But if you go to the drive-through and Want a specific doughnut do not go through the Drive-through the servers will get it wrong every time. Check your donuts before you leave the location.!!!!!!

This place has a large selection of doughnuts. I’m a glazed doughnut fan so I try various bakeries when I travel. The cinnamon rolls looked delicious but were huge so I didn’t get one. The glazed twist was good but I’ve had a superb one at Reesh’s bakery in Columbus where they sell out of them daily.

Such an awesome donut shop. If you’re looking for something sweet, they have a huge variety of freshly made donuts. Very decadent but not overly sweetened like the store bought ones.

Anytime m near Kalamazoo or Battle Creek I visit Sweetwater's. Without doubt, the BEST doughnuts in the world. Wish they were closer to my home (northeast Ohio).
