The new upper wooden deck is just a superb setting for a dinner on a nice evening. Overlooking the water with a fountain in the middle, it is truly spectacular to have a fine dinner. This place can’t be beat anywhere in Kalamazoo. It is...the best place for a romantic dinner for any couple wishing for something special. The food was prepared exactly the way we requested. The food was excellent. Elsa our server was very kind and genuine and very tentative. This restaurant is owned by the millennium restaurant group a local company. We support the local economy And the people that run it.More

I had the mushroom soup. It was the best I ever had! Followed by the grilled vegetables with bruschetta and white bean garlic dip. A nice vegetarian option. It was so cozy and we had a great seat near the pond. We thoroughly enjoyed our...visit.More

We got there a little early but were seated right away. There was lots of room but we had only 2 square tables for the 8 of us. Should have been set with 3 tables. They didn't romove our used dishes before bringing the entree...and we had to ask to have them removed because there was no place to put them. The starters were brussel sprouts, ravioli and a cheese plate were all good along with bread. Ceasar salads were large but hardly any dressing. Another had a regular dressing and asked for more for his. Wish we had asked for more as it was too scant. My mushroom soup was delicious but my angel hair pasta with shrimp had so much garlic I could hardly eat any of it. Makes me wonder if the chef knows the difference between a clove of garlic and a bulb. The garlic was crunchy, not sauteed enough. 2 had the alfredo with a red sauce and they could hardly eat theirs, too. They complained of way too much garlic in it. And let me tell you, these men love garlic but when it was too much for them, once again, bulb vs clove? The wait staff was very nice and accammodating.More

Park like setting, beautiful ambiance overlooking the lake. food was substandard. fried ravioli appetizer dry and not good. Didn't even finish it. Caesar salad was uninspiring bested by salad mix. The fettuccine pasta was decent but noodles were overcooked and blah. Didnt taste made from...scratch. Ive had packaged pasta that was better! The highlight was the tiramisu, light and delicious. Obviously not made in house. Pork chops were overcooked. Greenbeans were tasteless. It was light and delicious and obviously not prepared in house.More

The ambience at Martels can’t be beat anywhere in Kalamazoo as far as I’m concerned. This place has been around a long time and I just love it. Indoor seating is great overlooking the water but the new patio deck is just awesome. We had...a nice cool breeze coming off the water with the sound of the fountain in the center of the pond. The trees in front of the restaurant just add to the beautiful setting this restaurant has to eat a dinner that was delicious. Their pasta Campanella was delicious. My wife’s fish was cooked perfect and the salad was excellent. Our server was very attentive and knew exactly when to come visit us without interruption to our beautiful afternoon. We highly recommend this restaurant.More

Met friends for brunch in the bar - great atmosphere, excellent service, but the frittata was over-cooked & tasteless. Fabulous views in the main dining area -- I wish they would spice up their food and I would go there more often.

Nine of us went to Martell’s for dinner. Reservations were made for 5pm. After we paid our bills and were getting up to leave, the manager (?) came to our table and asked us to hurry up and leave as there were people waiting for...the table and we had exceeded our 2 hour limit. I could not believe my ears!! There was a whole dining area with empty tables. When I received an email to rate my dining experience I wrote: Last evening, for the first time in my life, we were asked to hurry our departure so the next group could have our table. She said there was a 2 hour limit on the tables!! I was shocked! I didn't see any sign stating this. I have never heard of this kind of policy. We were in the process of leaving so she got maybe 5 minutes out of doing that. Was it worth it? HOW RUDE!!! I suggest next time we make a reservation (NOT) that we be informed of a time limit on the tables. That way we can be gone before our “time is up”. Here is what they sent back: Thank you for visiting Martell's on Monday, July 22nd. Our sincere apologies for the miscommunication on the timing of your reservation. We appreciate greatly when our guests are enjoying their time with us and want them to feel at home and relaxed when visiting. We make it a point to let all of our larger groups know of surrounding reservation times at the time the reservations are made, in order to accommodate all parties involved. I'm sorry that this was not passed along to you. We are delighted that your group were enjoying yourselves and hope to see you back in the near future. Your feedback is valuable to us and we thank you for taking the time out of your day to share with us. So now I'm appalled twice!!! Needless to say, we won’t be dining at Martell’s any time soon!!More

Great place for dinner. Nice atmosphere, quiet, romantic. Nice view out picture window of woods and lake. I had the Gemelli, chicken and mushrooms in a garlic sauce, which was wonderful.

Six of us for dinner, Monday evening 5:30. Reservation made. Hostess greeted us and was pleasant. Table was ready and set by a window with view of the water and fountain. All food served timely and with good presentation. Our server was Aidan. He was...great. Answered all questions, was prompt, made sure dinners were ok, and kept the beverage glasses filled. Would definitely return to and recommend this restaurant.More

We had a reservation, and the Hostess got us a table outside on the patio overlooking the lake. There are about 6 umbrella tables there and the patio is surrounded by many trees including 4-5 large Sycamores. Our waitress promptly brought us glasses of ice...water took our orders. Our beverages and a basket of warm bread and dipping oil was quickly brought to us. We also ordered a starter of warm Baked Bri with Cherry compote & crackers, and it was brought to us a few minutes later. For entrees we choose Whitefish and Ruby Red Trout. We had ample time to enjoy the surroundings and our starter before they came. It was all in all a very pleasant mild day on the patio. The food was very good, and so was the service.More

I called earlier in the week to say 6 of us were coming for dinner Friday night. One of us has a serious issue with vertigo and we were trying to find a quiet restaurant to celebrate my sister moving. The last time we were...in here it was quieter than any other place in town. I explained the issue to the person i talked to. he said hold on a minute and then came back and said where they were sitting us and when we came in if it didn't work because of the noise, just ask and we would be moved. when we got there we were right in the center of the room with people all around us and it was loud! i went to the front desk and spoke to the young lady acting as hostess....she just blew me off saying they were full and there wasn't anything they can do. The restaurant was busy but there were places we could have been moved if she'd made any effort...totally not interested. Then our waiter came to the table and asked "anybody want anything besides water" NOT what can i get you to drink or anything hinting he wanted to wait on us. One of our party ordered medium prime rib and it came rare and to top it off the waiter when he handed out the checks said "better check these - they may not be right" and they weren't. SO customer service was non existent - food was average at best - person on phone lied to me........never again will be go back there except when i go back to talk to the managers!More
