By far one of the best restaurants in all of Michigan. My daughter and I had dinner here during the covid-19 crisis. We needed a reservation to be seated as they adhere to the social distancing guidelines. Further, masks must be worn when not seated...at your table. I appreciated their follow through on the health guidelines. Actually, as I ate my dinner, I watched the waitstaff especially after diners left after eating. Each table was thoroughly cleaned before anyone else was seated there. The menu is limited (once again covid related with supply chain) but the creativity of Chef Rob and Chef Michael has overcome that issue. I had a salad of mixed greens, locally raised chicken, blueberries, watermelon with chia seeds, and some type of homemade dressing. WOW!! I can’t describe how wonderful this was. The chicken was THE BEST I have ever had. So moist and tasty. I guess when you get your produce and chickens from local farms-it makes all the difference in the world. My daughter had the Mac n cheese and a Caesar salad. She loved both! Dessert was creme brûlée for her and I had vanilla ice cream. I must say that my ice cream was in a full bowl (like not just 1 scoop) and it was Murdick’s ice cream. Very buttery rich and thick. Yum. I can’t wait to get back to Indian River! I’m heading here for every dinner.More

I dined here with my son and nephew on March 7 2020 and Eric was our server. We were returning from a snowmobile trip and my nephew suggested we try it and I am glad we did. To start the interior decor of the place...is just beautiful and makes you feel warm and welcome and like you are in a up north lodge. For an appetizer we took Eric's suggestion and tried the fried cauliflower with malt vinegar aioli. I am not a huge fan of cauliflower in the first place but this app knocked it out of the park. My nephew and I had the baby back ribs and my son the ribeye steak. All the food was fresh and hot and prepared to order not to mention outstanding service from Eric and the hostess. For dessert we had the oreo stuffed donuts and tiramisu cheescake and wow were they good. You can tell that the management of this place has spent a lot of time in the food industry with lots of experience. To me I consider this very high quality food with great constancy. I dine out frequently for work and travel and I have eaten in some of the most high end steak restaurants money can buy and this place is on par with the best of them. Dare I say not only is this one of if not the best restaurants I have eaten in it is certainly the best anywhere in northern Michigan without doubt. Keep up the great work.More

This is a very nice restaurant. It has only been opened I believe this year but the service, location and atmosphere is very good. The food is excellent and the presentation is very good. Some of the menu items seems a bit pricey but there...are lots of good optionsMore

We love the atmosphere. Upscale yet comfortable. Warm and inviting. The staff is very professional, which is not the norm for the area. It’s very nice to have a high end option in the area. The steaks are the best quality i have ever had...and cooked to PERFECT temperature. That being said, many of us would like to see some more options on the menu. A gourmet burger would be an excellent addition!! I would definitely NOT recommend ordering the current burger. It is two thin patties with American cheese. The patties are so thin that it can’t be cooked rare or medium rare. It’s the most disappointing item on the menu. Tips: The steak is just a steak. No sides. No frills. Nothing (I don’t love this) but the steak is FANTASTIC There is sometimes music on Wednesday nights which is great time to go. (Wish there was music more often on the patio in the summer.) I don’t recommend the soups. They are ALL purées and flavorless. The fish dishes are excellent The shrimp cocktail is enough for a meal. You will be comfortable wearing jeans. You will also be comfortable wearing more formal attire.More

We had a group of 8, which included and infant and a 4 year old. We sat in the tavern for a more casual experience and had great service. We had a variety of foods at our table and most were great. My daughter in...law and I split the hanger steak (good) and the tacos (great). My husband had the 2 pattie burger and he loved it! We shared the cauliflower appetizer and hand cut French fries-which I think are some of the best I’ve ever had!! One son had a steak , a DIL had the “wedge” salad, and I can’t remember what the other son had. Our drinks were great and the wine choice was more than sufficient. My only complaint is that while many menu items are listed as GF, those foods are not completely safe for those with Celiac disease. My other DIL tested the fries which were probably fried in the same oil as a gluten product so they tested positive for gluten. My husband and I will definitely be back; we’re looking forward to the Tuesday night specials in the tavern! Thanks, Michael’s!More

On the evening of my visit this restaurant served perfectly prepared NYSFilet Oscar style, fresh asparagus, salad, Caymus Cabernet, etc. I was seated immediately on the patio. WaitStaff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. This is The Riv’s most elegant restaurant IMO. I expect to pay...higher menu prices for high end venues, views, panache, and selection. - I’d heard thru the local grapevine visitors feel the prices are exorbitant for the area. In N MI, dining venues change with the times and economy. I am glad to see more quality restaurant variety in The Riv. But I’m concerned, based on the sparse attendance, that the higher than accustomed prices are limiting foot traffic. I enjoyed it for a special event. Enjoy!More
