Always Wonderful

We made our annual summer trek to Hessel for dining in this wonder restaurant. We have never been disappointed.Since our trek was 2+ hours in each direction we had made reservations for 5:30 Activity in Hessel is always easy going. No hustle and bustle like some vacation towns. Very peaceful. Our dinners consisted of the Broccoli salad, Grilled Zucchini salad, Wagyu Beef tacos, Dry aged Ribeye, Panna Cotta, and Semifreddo. All was absolutley fantastic. The mojo sauce on the ribeye was amazing. The broccoli salad with plenty of speck was great. Only suggestion would be a little less almond nuts on the Semifreddo. Service was excellent.

Short visit to the UP

We had a wonderful dinner tonight. Our server was excellent and the food was delicious, creative, and beautifully presented. My husband had the steak and I had salmon prepared with Mediterranean spices. It was served on couscous with a delicious sauce. Our desserts were also very unique and extremely tasty! We felt that the prices were very fair for the quality of the food. The dining room has a beautiful water view. We will definitely plan to return next summer!

Elegant and welcoming restaurant

What an extraordinary dining experience in Upper Michigan! This restaurant is located in a small town near the lake. The service is fantastic, Julia, our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. She offered us complimentary champagne as we were celebrating our anniversary! We had the steak and salmon large plates along with a loaf of bread. It was all delicious. Our cocktails, a Manhattan and smoky Old Fashioned were the best. We chose the lemon desert, which was light and flavorful.

We had Sunday brunch today, just ok

We had Sunday brunch today, ok not great. Both started with a Bloody Mary, $10 each. I’m not sure what was in the drinks in addition to conventional ingredients but the resulting taste was not at all pleasing to us. We ended up sending both back. My wife had a veggie dish which was good, I had lamb biscuits and gravy. Mine was also good but both dishes, like the drinks, had odd and unusual seasonings. Glad we went but we probably would not eat there again.

Fun experience

There are few dining options in Hessel, but this is one you don't want to miss. The food, service and experience was great. We had fun cocktails, enjoyed some small plates (appetizers) and also enjoyed our meals/desserts. The menu is small and seasonal, FYI. If you have any picky eaters in your group, you may want to call ahead and know what's on the menu. Food is a bit pricey but to be expected and it was very good! Also the atmosphere is cozy.

Delicious and Friendly

We have visited the Les Cheneaux Culinary School on two occassions, both a great experience. The food was delicious, arrived quickly, and was filling. The staff was courteous and friendly. Prices could be a bit more reasonable, but still worth it.

Awesome spot and great food.

We ate there Sunday night. They had live music going. Their menu changes often. We had smash burgers and pork tacos! Both were finger licking. Great service from Kara and Garret! But the tops was the cornbread. Don't think .. dry day old. Think, WOW.. I've never had corn bread so good. Great place go go.

Requested outdoor seating on patio for a birthday dinner- sat inside and asked our waitress to have air conditioning turned up - we FROZE!!❄️Limited menu and overpriced- would not come back!!!

Worth the drive - 10 stars

Five stars are not enough. It is worth the 30 minute drive from the bridge. I had the whitefish curry and my son had the duck. Both were excellent. We sat on the patio overlooking the marina which made the meal even better. Excellent food Excellent service Excellent views

Never to Disappoint

They close for the Season on the Sunday prior to labor day. Such a shame as it is a privilege to dine here. On a holiday Friday night they were booked for reservations but had room for us at the Full Service bar. Bar seats are inside and out. Excellent artistic small plates and dinners.

Part of a culinary school, this restaurant is only open in the summer as part of the final segment of the student learning path. Limited menu (six large plate and 6 small plate selections) with an emphasis on farm to table. Our dinner was delicious with inventive touches here and there. Ambience is great and the service was wonderful.

Can't go wrong stopping here

We went here for dinner. Everything on the menu looked great. They had scallops, bison burgers to steak. They are only open certain times of the year.

Our dinner experience

The food was very good. We went two different nights to try different dishes and all were really good. My favorites were the salmon and the pork chop, but the chicken was also delicious. Among the desserts I would recommend the brownie one. The combination was spectacular

Worth Seeking Out

Hessel Michigan is not on your way to anywhere. But given the natural beauty of the area and a dining gem like this one, it is certainly worth the effort to get there. Menu changes often as availability of local ingredients change. Menu is somewhat limited, but very innovative. One of the better meals and experiences I’ve had in a very long time. Great food with a different approach, good drinks with local booze and excellent service!

Very good dining experience

We visited during the Les Cheneaux Classic and Antique Wood Boat Show, probably the busiest time of the year at Hessel. The food was very good with a flair and the service was very good, especially considering the crowds. Our server was Gayle and we thank her for attentive service.
