The service was a 10 but the food was just fair at best. Dined here on 8/24/2020 with my family and Trace C was our server. Let me just start out by saying the service by Trace was incredible and he really does not belong here. He is an outstanding server way too good for this place. We started with the meatball app and also a bruschetta app and they were pretty good but it was all down hill from there. Also had the wedge salad and penne alfredo and NY strip steak for dinner. The pasta dish was loaded with garlic and really was not that good. The NY strip steak was a low grade of beef in fact it looked like a rib eye. In fact I asked the server if it was a rib eye and he spoke to the kitchen and they said it was but I am sure it was not. The food over all is just not good and I cant recommend this place. Our dinner for 3 was $120 and and I felt the pain. I will not return.

This restaurant had never disappointed in the past, with great food quality and outstanding steaks. We chose online take out for the MLK weekend and most of our entrees were excellent. Ordering side dishes was a little confusing as we ended up ordering extra sides, though not our intent. For dessert we ordered a variety and I chose their Tiramisu, as it was described as an authentically made mascarpone filling and espresso soaked lady fingers. Being Italian and having enjoyed great Tiramisu by my relatives in Italy, the opportunity to eat authentic Tiramisu was too much to pass up... and all meal long I was looking forward to my dessert. What a disappointment, it was by no means a homemade authentic Tiramisu, in fact it was a cheap store bought moose with a yellow cake rendition of the beloved dessert. The quality was so subpar it was inedible. I can’t comprehend how a fine restaurant offering Italian cuisine, would offer such an abysmal dessert. I hope it was a one off circumstance that they correct soon.

A steak joint located just north of Petoskey on the way to Harbor Springs. Inside it seems to be divided between a dining room and a sports bar area. The dining room wasn't open so we got seated in sports bar area. That was okay though because it was Saturday and College football was on. Like a lot of sports bars the lighting was kinda low. However the atmosphere was cozy. I ordered the Denver Steak ($47), which is an American Wagyu steak, it also came with Truffled Mashed Potatoes. I also ordered the Cream Corn ($7). I almost ordered the Japanese A5 Wagyu steak ($93). I ordered the Denver Steak medium. It was good, but not great. The steak was a little tough. I think of Wagyu as melt in your mouth, not chew chew chew. It had a good meat flavor, however I've had better for much less. Heck I've cooked better. The mashed potatoes were very good and cream corn was excellent. The person I was with ordered the NY Strip ($40), also served with mashed potatoes. She also got a side salad ($5). She got her steak medium rare and stated it was tender and very good. Also the side salad was a good portion size and fresh. The service was very good. Served with a smile and efficient. Overall a 3 star review. Would I return? Probably. I'm disappointed because I went hear because it made a list of top 10 places in Michigan for a steak and it didn't come close to my expectations. However everything else was good and I liked the atmosphere. Lastly just a heads up your bill will have 2 totals on it. A cash price and a credit card price with 3.5% added on.

Service was poor although we lunched late and were for most of the time the only patrons; throughout our lunch (we were seated at the opposite end of the room) the staff, at full volume, discussed pregnancies, pregnancy tests and personal drivel best spoken of at low volume in a personal setting. Lunch was lackluster and although we visit the area at least twice per yer and are searching for a second home in the area we will not try them for dinner which runs to $95 for a steak. so the price range above is incorrect.

There was 7 in our party had a reservation for 8 pm all was well. Was ready for a good steak dinner well let's just say still waiting. Got the 12 oz ribeye with lobster tail. The lobster tail was good the steak and everything else was very bland nothing seasoned must be the head chef was on vacation and we got the cook. It was also the worst cut of ribeye I have ever had very thin and full of gristle. The waitress seemed a little timid and afraid. The place seems like It wants to be a high class joint but with the mentality of a pub. Pretty much all I can say is very overrated.

We visited on a Sunday evening, and it was busy, we waited about 15 minutes for a table, which was fine. The ambiance of this place is confusing, the menu and the prices don’t match the decor. Is this an Italian restaurant? Mexican? Steakhouse? It needs a focus. The prices are high and the decor/atmosphere is loud and pub-like. Giant TVs everywhere, no tablecloths, and many bar signs. For a place that offers a $100 steak, it should strive to be a bit more upscale. The food we had was ok. Salads were ok, fettuccini and chicken ok, eggplant napoleon ok, burgers and Mac and cheese, all ok. Nothing stand out. Our bill was $150 for 4 people, with no cocktails, only soda. The service was efficient and friendly, and she was apologetic because it was so loud! That is really our biggest complaint..the noise. There was a big group sitting at the next table. Not the fault of the restaurant per se, but I would not recommend the bar area room at all.

When we made the reservation, my wife mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary. (#32!- She’s now eligible for Sainthood!) They seated us at a table in front of the “fireplace”-(artificial) which added a nice touch of ambience. The food and the service were both excellent and they even provided us with a complimentary dessert with “Happy Anniversary” written in yummy chocolate and raspberry syrups to compliment the cannolis. A most excellent meal and evening! Thank you Vernales!!

Want a nice meal without hassle—need to go somewhere else. Upon seating we are told that we have the table for 90 minutes, then some 30 minutes later, our server reminds us we have 60 minutes left and then again we are told we have 15 minutes left. We left in 5–do we get a discount? Never have I been hassle like this. Time limited, with reminders, does not yield a pleasant experience. By the way, there were empty tables, so why the hassle? The food was below average. Pizza was less that remarkable and French dip was even less than expected. And the prices are extraordinary high for what is served. There many other restaurants in the area, so don’t waste your 90 allotted minutes here. Go elsewhere

The food was EXCELLENT, the atmosphere outstanding and over all a wonderful experience! The only downside was our waiter was a bit overzealous when suggesting entrees on the menu. His knowledge and description of the food was outstanding, it’s just he offered a bit too much. GREAT place to enjoy a nice dinner though!!!

Just amazing! The Sunday sauce is a 3 meat sauce with pasta and is absolutely a meat lovers dream. The meatballs melt in your mouth. Fresh complimentary pesto with complimentary bread. Pizza was loaded with toppings.

We had a lovely dinner at Vernales with our friendly waiter, Jerry. He was part of the fun of our experience in addition to getting seated right away and having a delicious meal. Would recommend to couples and families. It has a nice relaxing vibe in an attractive setting.

My husband and I had dinner with another couple. Our server seemed to be in a hurry, though it was a slow evening due to snowy weather. I asked the server if the salmon was farm raised or wild caught. She told me it was wild caught. When I got the entree, the salmon was cooked well, but was very bland. I seriously doubt it was wild caught. The rice that came with it was undercooked and “crunchy”. Very disappointing.

This was a mixed experience. Wings were excellent, calimare average +. The dinner was mixed. The steaks were excellent, the fish tacos uneatable and the garlic shrimp side dish was shrimp in butter water with no garlic or other seasoning like salt. The waitress, Tennessee, was terrific. Kids liked the pizza although one had a burned crust. We had a gluten free member of our group who ended with no meal. She could have ordered a side dish but it wasn't allowed so when the fish tacos were ineatable she left with no dinner.

We ate here last year and it was terrific. This year, the vibe has changed and it has gotten pretentious and scrooge in all of the wrong ways. Small "bread service (2 rolls +oil ) $6.50 with tortellini main course. I had a burger that was waaay overcooked ( ordered medium rare). The upcharge onion rings were also overcooked. We don't see paying these prices for mediocre food. We won't be back.

We stopped in for a light lunch, ended up having a couple appetizers instead. The Bruchetta was so tough you couldn't cut it or bite through it. They made a second plate, but it was the same way. The bartender stated "Sometimes that's the way it comes out". It remained uneaten. The mussels were so full of garlic we were afraid to eat them. It was a question of whether that's the way they are supposed to be or are they trying to cover the flavor of the mussels. At any rate, we used to go there about once per month but about a year ago we had a couple of bad experiences, so we gave it a break. Decided to try it again to see if they had corrected their food problems, but it seems they just got worse. We won't be back.
