We were tipped off to this place on a Facebook list of undiscovered gems in Detroit. So on a day trip to Detroit we added this as our lunch spot. So glad we did. From the moment you step in to this place, you are...transported back in time and can imagine seeing your grandfather sitting at the bar. I am sure nothing has changed in this place in a hundred years. It is kind of magical. Then you get to the food. Without being too dramatic, it too was magical. The pierogis were a great start. They are cooked to order in the tiny kitchen that is “manned” by one very hard working Polish lady. You know she is Polish as you hear her speaking the language to several of the servers. Ordered the sampler platter and they all were great. Then we ordered the main dishes. Be careful here because you get a lot of food. We all tried the Cabbage roll and could have stopped there. We all agreed we are coming back just for these beauties. Entrees come with kraut and potato’s, and veggie. Too much!, But all good. I had a Beef roll as my second choice on the platter and could not come close to eating it. My sister had the kielbasa with her dish, it was great. My wife had schnitzel. Compared to the cabbage roll it was lacking, but solid. None of us came close to finishing everything. But we tried. Our server was a gem. Very helpful and funny. She gently admonished me for not ordering a Polish beer. Went with her recommendation (ask for OK beer) and it was perfect. Want to return as soon as possible. Definitely not going to wait another 60 years to get back to Hamtramck. Oh, they do a great carry out business also. There were folks coming in a steady stream to pick up orders. I’m not sure how that one lady in the kitchen does it, but nobody waits long. Geib here and enjoy!More
