I could say so many things about my food experiences at Mikado, but let me highlight the essentials. Recently, they updated their menu with a dozen or more new rolls, appetizers, and entrees, that are a most welcome change to their menu. The tuna Tataki roll, with a touch of spice and ponzu, is one of our favorites. The sushi is delicious. It is always fresh, clean, and satisfying. The rice is done perfectly, you can tell so much about the caliber of a sushi restaurant just by the rice. Mikado nails it. Our other favorite menu items are Godzilla Roll, Pink Monster, Michigan Roll, Snapper, Fatty Tuna, and the Rainbow Roll.

Solo business traveler quite hungry after a long days work. Craving sushi so I purchased a salmon teriyaki sushi combo. Tons of food. Sushi was fabulous. Salmon was a bit overcooked but I was so hungry I ate it hastily. I will come back and give them a chance for five stars. Service was good and kind.

Not having been to a Japanese sushi bar in over five years I find the Korea on sushi bars to be very close in quality.
Unfortunately even Korean sushi bars are becoming rare.
All the sushi bare I’ve experienced are non-Japanese, non-Korean and non-Thai.
The only other group is taking over the industry, and they don’t know how to make sushi rice properly.
I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi at Mikado.
Now if they could only get Sho Chiku Bai sake.

We went in for a late Monday lunch. My first time there. The restaurant is clean and hostess/ waitress was very friendly. Typical choices of sushi but a little on the pricey side. I tried the appetizer of deep fried avocado with crab meat and cream cheese . Sounded better than it was.... My husband had the beef box lunch and he was happy with it. Overall it was just good not great!

This family owned restaurant is top notch! Mikado never disappoints!! Been going here for years and the food is always delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is comfy and relaxed. I have seen all different kids of people in here: business meetings, parties, family dinners, dates etc. I highly recommend Mikado sushi!

I just stopped by Mikado as it was close to my hotel. I was considering at eating at a more expensive sushi restaurant for which I have enjoyed in the past, however I wanted to try something different. I got a Mikado roll and pink monster roll. Both were really delicious with the pink monster being the best out of the two. I also had an avocado salad which was massive with 8 pieces of fresh avocado and a great ginger dressing. I sat at the sushi bar and everyone was quite friendly. This is definitely worth a try and has a great value for the flavor compared to more expensive, neighboring sushi spots.

I left Cantina and walked across the street to have more food and drink at the Mikado Sushi, also on 28th St. My food was great, along with the sake, but my two servers were even better!!! Their names are Mimi Seo and Subin Lee!! and they were simply super!!! Extremely attentive, helpful, and just great personalities. These two ladies are exemplary workers here. They seem genuinely happy doing their job and are great ambassadors for this place. I had the noodles with tempura shrimp and it was great!!!! My Sake was warm and tasty… nice ambiance in this place and the whole atomosphere was super conducive to a great culinary experience!! Thanks to all involved for making this a super-nice experience!!!!

This is my family’s favorite West Michigan sushi joint. Their menu is absolutely humongous (in a good way!) and their attention to detail in each dish is above and beyond. They have a great selection of noodles as well as sushi and sashimi. They even have a “not on the menu” dish that they heat up on a burning plate of fire. Ask for it, and let them know you’re talking about the dish that’s heated and not listed on the menu. FANTASTIC!

I really wish we had a restaurant like this in the Ann Arbor area. I visit Grand Rapids just once a year, and I time my visit for when they're open for lunch. (closed on Sunday, used to be closed on Monday) Generous portions of excellent fish with fabulous lunch specials. I ordered Unagi, and got two BIG pieces, each piece almost twice the size as our local place in Dexter. This place is a MUST visit if you're anywhere near 28th street.

This is a small Japanese restaurant with a substantial menu. The sushi is nicely prepared and presented. Other dishes such as noodles and tempura and prepared with car. Located in sort of a strip mall, it is easily missed, but worth the effort to find it.

On a business trip and thought we would try sushi in another town. The service was relatively quick and our food brought promptly, freshly made. The rolls were not tight, so some of the pieces fell apart. The portion sizes were minimal for the cost. We enjoyed our dinner but not certain we would return if we visit Grand Rapids again. I was surprised to see they were voted Best of Grand Rapids for so many years.

I have eaten there before and wished it was as good as then.. We were the only people there, give it that it was almost nine pm. The rolls were not tight and the rice fell apart. The fish was perfect but the rice disappointed us. We order the sushi boat, the variety was very good and the service was good, the tea was not hot, the soup and salad was good, maybe we need to go during day....

Whenever I'm in Grand Rapids (I stay at the nearby Springhill Suites) I stop at Mikado. Love the Big Pink roll and this time I tried the Kimchi roll. Good but could have been spicier. Staff always friendly which is a big plus for me
