This is a cool little bar that has been around forever. The atmosphere is good. We visited on trivia night and that was the reason we came. But we also wanted to eat dinner. When we arrived, nobody greeted us. We picked an open table and sat down. Nobody acknowledged us at all. We eventually went up to the bar to see if they had servers. Apparently there was only one. I got the knockout burger which sounded great but was just Okay. My wife ordered the wings. They were a problem. They were very under cooked and soggy. We had them remade and they came out much better. The garlic habanero sauce was excellent. We will give the place another try sometime, but we might eat before coming.

Food good, but Sandy the server ?

If you go, you'll want to try and get the "Good Sandy", because the "Bad Sandy" will make you want to walk out. We got Bad Sandy at first. She is snide, rude, and totally unpleasant. We almost walked out, but I'd eaten here years ago, and remembered the food as great. When we walked in, the only people there were one table of three and a single man at the bar. She informed us three separate times that she was the only one there and so she'd get things as she could. She hung out in the kitchen for quite awhile and also seemed quite entralled by the tv at times. The food eventually came out and it was really good. My husband got the mushroom burger and I got the olive burger. We split a basket of fries. We also ordered an app of cheddar biscuits with bacon jam because I wanted to try them. Note: the only description of the jam called it "bacon jam." They neglected to mention the jalapeno spice in the jam. Very good, but too hot for my husband to eat. He asked her for something else to put on the biscuits, but she said she had nothing - not even butter. Really ? The fries are really great: blanched first and then fried, so they have a really nice crust. Burgers very juicy and quite large. By that time, Nice Sandy had made her appearance. She was much friendlier and very accomodating. It was like she'd had a personality replacement. We complimented the food and I asked her if she grilled the buns. She said she did because she loved how they tasted slathered.with butter. Really ? I didn't think she had any butter ! So, go for the food, but if your server is an older woman who goes tanning too much, good luck !

Rockys can be a fun dive, however charging cover for this place is ridiculous, especially the upstairs dance floor. NOBODY is ever up there and they still ask you to pay 5 bucks?? no thanks, college kids are too cheep for that. I'd go to back forty or mojos before paying for this so called "dance" floor.

Outskirts of downtown Grand Rapids

Small bar w/deck so good location in the summer if your looking for a more quiet, intimate setting. Some old school beer always on special & food is normal pub fair. They have an upstairs that can be rented ( had my 50th BDay surprise party there) which you can bring your own food. Also parking which is a plus for almost downtown. My recommendation is check them out during the week as I'm sure they are hopping on weekends

Neighborhood Hangout

Rocky's is off the beaten path, in a semi-industrial neighborhood just north of downtown Grand Rapids. The bar has been open since the late 1920's and still has the original bar and bar back, which gives the place a unique time capsule feel. This is an unpretentious neighborhood bar. The servers are friendly, there is an ever changing selection of microbrews on tap and the food is top notch. I had a great bacon cheese burger, Texas chill and bacon cheddar fries. My cousin really liked the sweet potato, black bean cake and the batter fried mushrooms. The nights I visited, they also had live music. Full Disclosure: I visited Rocky's during the Artprize Competition. My artwork was on display at the bar.
