Many good things to say about Reserve! Our waiter was knowledgeable about the extensive selections of wine and champagne. We started our celebration with a rose champagne that was excellent. For dinner we drank a French Chablis which was served at cellar temperature, and it was one of the most delicious wines I have ever tasted. For dinner the four of us ordered to share “family style” at the table. If you come to Reserve for only one menu item, make it a charcuterie board. Choices of cheeses and meats are beautifully presented with pickles, onion, olives, almonds, candied pecans, baguette rounds and honey. (I stopped by the cheese/meat counter at the front door area to watch Jules preparing the boards, and she was an artist at work!) We tasted most all the veggie or pescatarian small plates and a few entrees. Small plates are the perfect size for splitting by 4, as it turns out, or perhaps the chef prepared them this way specifically for our table of 4? Certainly the pacing of the food arriving to our table (2 plates at a time for 6-10 separate “courses”) was perfectly timed for a long, relaxing meal and we appreciated that unrushed hospitality. Recommended food: The oysters, without a doubt. The blistered shishito peppers, also no doubt. Most restaurants overly char these peppers, but here just enough to retain the fresh, green, sweet flavor, and the chèvre sauce was a sublime dip. A big plate of these at $13, why are these diners complaining on this site about high prices? We also loved the Hamachi Crudo (sashimi) but would have appreciated being warned about the heat in the pepper included, which, for me, overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients. The mushroom wraps were absolutely wonderful, don’t miss those. The charred eggplant was the only small plate that disappointed. We also split, between the 4 of us, the agnolotti, the scallops and the veggie hash. The scallops were especially memorable. Desserts were unmemorable except for the sorbet, which made for a perfect ending. We will be returning to Reserve for both everyday dining and special celebrations. It’s relaxing to have a laid back dress code. We also appreciated the low volume of the background music which did not contribute to an uncomfortable noise level in the dining room. Would have appreciated if the table of 4 next to us would not have been set to accommodate 6, which crowded us. As a 50 year lifetime restaurant professional, I would be remiss to not mention that, overall, table service personnel could benefit from some enhanced training. Perhaps just a refocus on the basics? Certainly service is the most consistent complaint on this site for Reserve. There are, simply, proper techniques to present food at a restaurant of this caliber and price point. It adds to my enjoyment and my gratuity when service is professional and exemplary. Certainly our waiter was cheerful and knowledgeable, and we appreciated that. Thank you Chef Luke for your wonderful food and wine selections!

Enjoying our day hiking around GR downtown and interested in trying something new, we dropped in. We were seated at the bar quickly and selected our flights! My girl always goes for the sweet stuff, and I like the reds. We also got the mushroom larb wraps. Gluten-free and so many different flavors. Wow!

The appetizers were excellent and chucutery board also outstanding. Service was also very good. But the main course of pork chop ( very dry) and pork pasta ( little or no pork in dish) we’re not good. And they were very expensive. I’d choose another restaurant because there are a lot of very good ones at these price levels.

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Reserve. It was good, but not exceptional. The seating options were very limited, with the upstairs having been rented out for a private party and the remainder of the restaurant perhaps on COVID space restrictions. We had a reservation made well in advance, but asked to be seated inside rather than on the patio as it was 88 degrees. We were accommodated, but were seated right next to the host and heard every call and guest check-in conducted during our 90 minutes there. Again, ok, but not the experience I had hoped for when celebrating such a big event. The food was good although not the best of our trip, and the service was respectable but we were offered nothing for celebrating our anniversary with them - no dessert to share, no glass of champagne, no special touch. For the amount we spent, I would have hoped for more. It was an above average experience, but not a standout.

We had a great waitress who helped us pair a wine and cheese plate with a couple of entrees that we wanted. She did a wonderful job finding us cheeses that went great with the type of red we were interested in. Smoky gouda baby. The food is well presented and tasty. Imagine all the wines. Ok now you know what's available.

We stopped in for a drink & charcuterie board on NYE & we were well taken care of. The waiter we had really knows his stuff. We asked questions & we all tried drinks that were not our usual and we all liked them. Charcuterie items were great too.

Cheers to Reserve for consistently serving up a tasty variety of foods to compliment an intriguing wine list. My favorite entree is still the far-from-boring burger accompanied by killer fries with garlic mayo. Our vegetarians loved their choices too, and all buoyed starting with a medley of cheeses.

If you are looking for a good glass of wine this is a great location. If you are looking for greasy poorly cooked food, you get the point.

Four of us had dinner here last night. The atmosphere is very nice. Our meals were not. This restaurant gets great reviews from others. Unfortunately the four of us cannot provide the same. The rib eye steak was prepared as ordered, however it had a lot of gristle in it. The fresh fish of the day was rubbery. Two people had beef bolognese. It had little flavor and more pasta than sauce with very little meat in the sauce. Appears we had an unfortunate experience here.

Hubby and I have dined here before, but decided it was time to try again! We made reservations for Friday night, and were greeted warmly by the Host and taken to a table. Please note that if you are not comfortable climbing stairs, to note this in reservation, since he took us directly upstairs, without making inquiry of whether we desired upstair or down. It was a lovely evening so we asked to be seated on their outdoor balcony, which is a lovely little spot with a direct view of the Amway Hotel building, which has some nice architectural detail. We chose a booth, since the tables had wire type chairs, which did not look that comfortable and the booth has cushions. Even though Reserve specializes in wine, they have a vast selection of liquor as well. I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan on rocks and hubby a Scotch and water on rocks with a twist. The drinks were excellent and made properly. Cheers to the bartender. The menu offers a wide selection of cheeses and charcuterie, some handhelds (good burger I hear), homemade pastas, and some entrees. We selected the Market Catch seafood-wild salmon, seared-delicious! We also had the butter crumb lettuce salad, which was very nice and a nice amount, too, and also the bread, which is toasted and served with an artichoke spread and sardines-a cool presentation, and very tasty. The service here is exceptional, especially considering that the waiter had to climb up the stairs and come out to the balcony every time someone ordered a drink or a bite to eat. The experience could have been more elegant for the price point at the restaurant, however, which would include serving drinks with cocktail napkins, since the table was metal and could get sticky and attract bugs, and placemats would be a nice touch, too. It just seemed a bit casual for the menu offered and cost for the food and drink. The silverware was rolled up in napkin and simply placed in center of table, and a little green touch, perhaps a flower or two in a small vase, like they do in European restaurants, could be added. We will visit again, but I don't really see this becoming a go-to place for us, since the overall ambiance was somewhat lacking-even on a beautiful evening in June! One more thing-parking at night can be difficult in GR, so I recommend using the valet offered, which even though there is a cost, it does not exceed what we paid to park in a public lot down the street, and would be easier than driving around looking for parking. The restaurant should make a note of the parking situation on their website or in the reservation confirmation.

We love Reserve! It’s our go to spot before we see a performance or concert down town. Great martinis but mostly I so appreciate a menu that does not in any way resemble the typical west Michigan fare... no fried perch anywhere to be found :)

There are few places were ambiance (Big City Wine Bar), service, food and of course, wine (although their bartender can do anything well) all come together every visit. The Reserve is one of them and set the standard for Grand Rapids. Describe what you want to eat and drink and the trained team take over. Or, decide yourself what you want to eat (from there ever changing farm to table menu) and drink. The service is top flight with everyone helping out to ensure efficient, effective and appropriately friendly service. The credit goes to the management for paying attention to the detail and training well (Peter is the best). While we go often it is not often enough. Dont miss this GR treasure.
