Margaux is the cafe inside the JW Marriott. We had breakfast at Margaux four days in a row. Hostess: Nice hostesses, generally quick to seat. But on the weekend reservations for breakfast are a must. Food: The cook is incompetent. Every day of our four...days something was completely botched. Day 1- potatoes were so over salted they were inedible. Day 2- Potatoes tasted frozen and eggs Benedict sauce was 50% lemon juice- ugh! Days 3 and 4- eggs were completely undercooked. We specifically asked for our eggs to be fully cooked because early in our stay the eggs were runny. Got worse after we made the request to fully cook them. Service: Average to above average Ambiance: French bistro style Value: for botched breakfast at $20 / plate, not a very good value. Overall cleanliness: above average Tip: if you can’t get a table for breakfast and really want breakfast, ask for it to go. One morning, we ordered ours to go and ate in the Concierge Lounge on Floor 23More

This is a French restaurant in the lobby of the JW Marriott. We are Bonvoy Marriott Elite members and received complimentary breakfast at this restaurant. This is a cute petite restaurant with an outdoor seating area. The staff were all very nice. I think in...the past this might have been called Six-One-Six. A few locals and online article recommended Six-One-Six as a must place to eat. Even though the name changes, I was looking forward to trying Margaux. The first day I had the Belgian waffle ($16), the employee said it is the best. It was okay. The waffle had no crispy edges and flat, normally they are fluffier. The compote of berries was very good and the tartness complimented the maple syrup. The second day I ordered the ($18) 2 eggs and asked for fried eggs be cooked 80%. They come out almost raw and the whites were not cooked. The potatoes also tasted like they were frozen potatoes. The third day I decided to try the eggs benedict ($26). Finally eggs cooked right, but the hollandaise sauce had way too much lemon juice added. The Enligh muffin was not toasted properly so it got soggy. The ham was very good though. Again the potatoes tasted frozen. I asked the waiter, he was they should not be frozen, but he wasn't sure. Our last day it was so full, we ordered our food to go. I asked for fried eggs cooked all the way, again not cooked right, runny, but this time the potatoes were fresher tasting and had a slight crisp to them. I will say the jars of honey, raspberry jam, and orange marmalade are delicious. This is the best orange marmalade that I have ever had. The jams are the perfect combination of sweet to tartness. If they offered just toast with jam, I would prefer this. For the price of the food here, it is not worth it. Looks pretty, but majorly lacking in execution and taste. If you cannot properly cook an egg or execute breakfast, there is no way I will eat dinner at this place. Tip: If you are staying at this hotel and you want to guarantee a spot for breakfast, make a reservation. Our last day here there were no openings with guests. We did order to go. Thank you hostess for allowing this.More

JDeck at the Marriott is poorly organized, poorly managed and ruins an otherwise beautiful spot. Tables / chairs are unattended and unmarked as to hours of operation, reservations, etc. After spending several thousand dollars at the hotel, the restaurant manager with a totally bitchy attitude...told our group (3 late 50's men) to get up and move as she want ed the table for someone else. This is an on-going problem. The hotel / restaurant should manage the area or at least put up signage that indicates the tables must be reserved for use during certain hours. Our experience was on Saturday morning at 10:45. There was no service of any king going on. We were never asked if we wanted a table or service. We were treated like vagrants by the restaurant manager. As a longtime loyal Marriott customer I am shocked at the lack of professionalism and the attitude of the restaurant manger. If you want to be treated rudely, served overpriced food and drinks then give JDeck a try.More

I have to give the staff a five stars on this one. They are incredible. Jas, Mikhayla, Michelle and Janda were awesome. Jas was my server and she was spot on. The food was good. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The escargot was good....Filet mignon avec au poivre was a bit drier than I expected. I should’ve asked for the au poivre à côté or on the side. Still an excellent restaurant at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids. Will revisit again if for no other reason than the outstanding staff and Martini’s. Thank you again!More

First off, we made a reservation for outside which was closed, but it was available on open table. So when we arrived the hostess offered for us to sit in the lobby on Father’s Day. Finally she pushed two round tables together foe the three...of us. I took my husband there for the seafood tower, which was completely underwhelming for $140. The menu said it was enough for 4-6 people. It was myself, my husband and our 9 year old who barely eats and it wasn’t enough for all of us. The Caesar salad was adequate, same with the French onion soup. The deserts were good but we will never go back for the seafood tower.More

Margaux has a lot of potential as a restaurant, but right now it isn't quite there yet. I had dinner and breakfast here. Dinner: Food was very good and came out perfectly prepared, but no bread, no offer of dessert and no offer of coffee...after dinner. Interesting wine list, especially if you ask for the full wine list. Breakfast: No offer of orange juice. Kitchen couldn't properly cook a poached egg. Prices are very expensive for what you get. Basically over $20 for an egg with coffee and orange juice, which makes the vouchers the hotel gives Marriott platinum and higher elite status guests worthless. Hostess asked customers at breakfast to write their name, hotel room number (if applicable) and telephone number on a sheet of paper for contact tracing, but this is poorly implemented because other customers can see your name and phone number. This doesn't protect people's privacy and could be a safety issue in a hotel as someone could get access to your room or charge things to your room. Interestingly, this wasn't done at dinner.More

Highly recommend. Best service we have ever received at a restaurant. Wait staff goes out of their way, above and beyond. Food was great! U we left feeling like VIP’s.

Only the outside area of the restaurant is currently being used. The view of the river is lovely but flying pests are a drawback. The menu is limited and pricey compared to other restaurants in the area. Our $60 light lunch of a flatbread and...salad with two glasses of wine was averageMore

While it was during COVID and a limited menu. The food was great - loved the mussels and the goat cheese cake - WOW! - The staff is what made it. I have been to NYC hotels for many years - but this was COMFORTABLE...and WONDERFUL - I never felt rushed and the staff went out of their way, during COVID, which made it extra special. They made a weird and uncertain time spectacular. I was here for almost a week and usually ready to go home, but the way it was comfortable and every need met, I was sad to leave. I will be back soon and I am raving about the staff.More
