Interesting concept, trendy restaurant with over-priced, very average uninspired food, Staff was polite and accommodating, wine and cocktail list was interesting, but our food was bland and uninspired. I had four tiny, fatty spare ribs and a pile of overcooked kale for $38. We chose this restaurant based on reviews and were really disappointed.

This place could have been airlifted from Brooklyn. It's young and quirky, but the price point is VERY high and honestly they should do a better job with a few things. The QR code menu didn't match the single paper one we were handed. So we had to ask which was correct. That's just sloppy. But at $28 I would like to know whether I'm ordering a pork chop or pork loin. Our server brought us 6 silverware rolls for 7 people. We had to ask TWICE for the additional silverware, even after our pricey appetizers were on the table. The appetizer "boards" come with meager bread. If you are ordering a pricey chicken liver pate, but there is not enough bread to spread it on, that seems pointlessly miserly. We asked for more bread and it took forever to come out. The knives on the table were not steak knives. They aren't sufficient for cutting meat. Again, one should be issued a knife capable of cutting one's $28 pork chop. And also? At this price point I should not have to brace the shaky table with a knee to stabilize it. We decided that "new Nordic movement" may mean actual...movement. Because the table seemed about to collapse. In summary, this place was a bit inspired, and a bit unstable. A bit interesting, and a bit emperor-has-no-clothes. Every member of the service team who visited out table was lovely and polite. But dishes weren't cleared away for aeons. Lovely meal in a neat spot. Some things need work.

If you’ve never been here then you should know it’s an outdoor restaurant with no sun protection. It is not easy to get to as it’s behind buildings apartments and homes. The parking is a sloped gravel area with the restaurant at the bottom of the slope. Not wheelchair, walker, stroller friendly. It was extremely hot mid day, no breeze. We had an 85 year old with us with a cane. Very hazardous getting down the parking lot. We also had a baby in a stroller. We were seated at a picnic table so half of us were facing directly into the sun. Now, if you don’t mind any of that, the menu is limited and maybe a quarter of the options were strange things in my opinion. Like a grilled broccoli “steak” On eggs Benedict and goat cheese on a grainy bread with flowers and fruit. Was not good. But they have a delicious spicy chicken sandwich I’d definitely have again. But take out!

Hi Braileys, Not quite sure how to respond here - the parking lot is not ours but ADA access is provided by a concrete walk into the biergarten. Perhaps you were here earlier in the year, but our outdoor area has ample umbrellas and sail shades covering the larger portion of the garden. Glad you enjoyed our chicken sandwich though. The menu changes frequently, so perhaps you can find some other things that suite your taste on your next visit!

There are not 37 restaurants in GR better than Sovengard, so don't overlook this one if you're looking for fresh, creative, not found anywhere else delicious food. The duck breast and whitefish specials were all of that, service by Nathan very professional, and a comfortably casual atmosphere relaxing. This is clearly a top 10 restaurant in GR for us and look forward to our next visit.

We are always enthralled when we find Scandinavian restaurants - it’s super unusual. The beer list is great. There were several tasty options. A little high priced for the product but not by too much to avoid. Overall though I recommend checking it out for yourself.

8 months after our first visit, we went again for dinner and it was delightful. Happy Hour before six is a good time to go for some great appetizers. Swedish meatballs with pickled onions and beats were really delicious. The cheese plate was great as well. We split a chicken pot pie, which was more of a stew with crumbles, could of had a few more of those, but was delicious. The chocolate cake with cardamon and seafoam was a wonderful finish!

We ate in the garden last time we were here, but this time we reserved a table in the restaurant. It was well worth it. The appetizer (pate) was fantastic, and the chicken that I chose was delicious. Highly recommended.

We were in Høst, a second venue in the building with the Søvengård. With a chef driven menu that changes daily, this minimalist looking space offers intriguing dishes and fab cocktails. What made the dining experience exceptional? Our server, Kyle, who actually undersold over ordering, "We don't want to serve you too much food; it would be wasteful" while he enthused over the menu, its locavore ingredients and concept so engagingly. To savor: Tempura battered trumpet mushrooms, barley (vs the classic arborio rice) risotto with kale, coffee roasted carrots with lemon tahini, and whiskey-based cocktails. A big, rustic red (Primitivo red from Puglia) at $9 paired so well and is a huge value. Spoiler alert: with a farm to table concept (Host means Harvest in Danish) and "day of only" menu, you may or may not have these menu choices; this haven of all that is very locally sourced is worth the exploration!

I think my title sums it up. Such a neat space, I love that there is outdoor seating and bar in warmer months. Service has always been great. Along with food quality. Menu is always changing.

This easily qualifies as one of the top 5 dining experiences we have had this year. We stumbled upon Sovengard while looking for something a bit different and we were extremely impressed. The brief and inventive menu, the fresh ingredients, and the beautiful presentations which were augmented by the wonderfully attentive and helpful Seth, made for a memorable evening.

Grand Rapids West Side neighborhood has a bunch of good restaurants, including this one. On the evening I had dinner, only the Biergarten was open for dining. Since it was a warm evening, that was fine with me. I was seated at a rustic looking table, that seemed appropriate for the space. After being handed the menu, my server provided some information about the food and the beer. Some of the items on the menu have a Scandinavian influence. It's not big menu, there was a handful of entrees, along with several sandwiches. I had the Pappardelle, a vegetarian dish. With the exception of having a bit too much dill, I really enjoyed it and it was a good size portion. For dessert I had the Yogurt Panna Cotta, which was also very good. The beer offering is strong, with an emphasis on Michigan beers. Nothing wrong there. I had a River's Edge Kolsch, a style of beer from Cologne, Germany. It was good, but not on par with ones I've had in Cologne. I also had a Gin Blossom cocktail. A nice summer drink. Service was perfect. The young staff here does a great job. If you're driving, you'll most likely need to pay for parking. This farm to table does it "Just Right" in my book.

Started off well with the waitstaff (Karla?) explaining the menu and some possible choices. We ordered the strawberry soup which was very good and then my wife did the quarter duck for an entree and I did the whitefish entree. The duck was very tasty but my whiteish consisted of 5 large undercooked broccoli pieces and one very small piece of fish (roughly 3"x 3") fro $27. Karla agreed that it looked less than the 6oz typical serving and asked the chef do another piece of fish. After about 15 minutes she came back to see if the fish and/or her boss had come to our table. No on both counts. She was clearly embarrassed and brought the bill with nothing charged but the soup. Given the reviews we were looking forward to a new experience including an above average meal. I hope this was just an off night and although they essentially zeroed out the bill, a more personal explanation from management would have been nice

The wife and I decided to try it last Saturday night before a concert at St. Adelburts. We ran a little short on time, but that was no problem. at 5:30 they were not yet busy. Love the decor, clean and fresh. The menus both food and drink were amazing with great local choices. I had open face sandwiches (Smørrebrød - 15 | radish, ricotta, dressed herbs, honey, miche | | confit duck, charred cabbage, pickle mayo, micro greens, scandinavian rye, and the asparagus soup that was so delicious, and my wife had a tortellini dish that was absolutely amazing. For dessert we split a delicious fruit topped cheesecake like delight.
