This was our first dinner at Kirby in several years. The Kirby used to be our first choice when dining in Grand Haven but no longer. The atmosphere is excellent, the view was great but we were not happy with our dinner choice. Fish and Chips were one of the specials on the menu for $11.99. The fries were delicious....but the fish were all exactly the same shape and the same size...looked and tasted like they were fresh from the frozen food section at the grocery store..picture Gortons frozen fish fillets. It will be a while before we try again. I must mention that every pizza we saw being delivered to a different table looked amazing -perhaps we will give that a try if we go back.

My wife and I decided to try this place as we had never at there in our previous trips to GH and they had a large outside eating area. We were quickly seated (which was surprising) and decided on the wet burrito. Food arrived fairly quickly and was tasty although it was not remarkable. We didn’t like the fact that when we were asked if we wanted gauc, sour cream and pico de Galla that we would be charged 75 cents each for them. I mean they were the size of Jell-O shots. So for an extra $4.50 we got a “taste” of sides. Again not a deal breaker and we did find it mentioned on the menu, but it seemed a bit cheap.

Average margarita pizza with below average crust which tasted processed and pre-made. The pizza lacked key ingredients. The service was outstanding as the host got us a table right away outside and our waitress was very attentive and friendly.

Great atmosphere, everyone is so friendly. We had a great server, Hannah. Thank you Hannah for making our dining experience better! But the food is disappointing. Chicken lettuce wrap is nothing special, grilled chicken and veggies with dipping sauce (sauce is tasty). Drunken noodle is a failure, seems like the chef can’t decide how it is supposed to taste? We complaint to the server which she took it back and she admitted that they have had many complaints regarding Drunken Noodle dish. Why have they kept it in their menu? Mahi tacos is pretty good, but the guacamole does not like appetizing as it has turned brownish green and does not taste fresh. Wet burrito is sweet and has no smell (needs more spice?). This place is packed, because the atmosphere is great. However, because we went there to eat, I would have to give 2 stars for the food. Might be the food choice we ordered are not their specialty. We are not coming back.

Because of Covid, staff shortages not open everyday. Not much open on Mondays and Tuesdays in downtown Grand Haven. The menu is changed to a majority of bar food and the overblown choice of pizza. This town is way heavy on Mexican and pizza. The peanut sauce on my chicken was disgusting, thick and tasted more like butterscotch topping. Ok for bar food but definitely no longer fine dining. Probably because they can’t hire staff. I’ll go to Muskegon or Saugatuck for good food.

I love when a restaurant embraces menu items that appeal to more tastes than just traditional bar food. You can tell that the owner and chef appreciate Asian flavors. As someone who has many food intolerances, this menu had many choices for me. I chose the Kirby House Chicken Cashew Stir-Fry. My son had the 8oz steak and my husband went with a simple chickens Cesar salad. If I had one complaint is that was too much rice in the stir fry. I’d rather have less and a choice for brown rice. This place is huge. They must do well during the busy summer months.

Husband and I both order chicken burritos. The burritos were nothing like the menu description. It was almost all plain white rice. Very little chicken and tasteless. The sauce was sweet and we only received 8 small round chips. On top of that we were up charged $2.99 a piece for the chicken. We had to wait 15 minutes for the manager to correct our bill. If you want salsa or sour cream that is another 99 cents each.

Used to love this place, great ambiance. However, the menu is GREATLY reduced. I looked through it about 5 times, lowering my standards each time. I settled on the 5 cheese pasta with bacon. $18. It was honestly a bowl of pasta with something like a jar of store bought Alfredo or pasta sauce. Nothing about it was homemade. I could have done better myself. Fresh cheese would have been nice. Then we ordered the berry cheesecake. I had hoped for some berries cooked down and added, but really it was just strawberry syrup, much like what you might add to milk. It's very obvious they have cooks, not chefs, and are pinching pennies on the food. If anything kills this place, it will be the food.

Great view and location, but honestly bad food. We went last September and got the capo pizza and it was actually great! Yesterday, we ordered the rosemary fries ($11), a crispy/spicy chicken sandwich ($18!!!) and the capo pizza (~$15). The fries were fine because we were hungry but they were covered in Lawry's seasoning. The chicken sandwich was as if it were from KFC or McDonald's. The pizza tasted and looked like a frozen pizza from Aldi. Really bummed because we rarely go out to eat. I recommend going somewhere else without the view, or getting takout and sitting on the grass by the water.

The Kirby House is a regular stop for me when I'm in Grand Haven. This time it was for dinner. The service was outstanding and the food was good. The salads were fresh and crispy and the stir-fry was enough to bring home for a second meal.

Looked so cute on the outside. But so disappointing. I ordered shrimp tacos but substituted chicken. They were cold, tasteless and full of lettuce. Hubby ordered a pizza and it came about the time I finished my meal which had been served about 15 minutes earlier. Pizza reminded us of those pizza kits that kids sell for school fund raisers. Won’t return.

We were tourists in town for the weekend, this was a Saturday evening. Great atmosphere but……they seem to hire a young staff who are unfamiliar with the menu and unable to answer questions. We ordered the ribeye steak, medium rare. When it arrived, it was actually steak medallions, which we don’t care for, for a multitude of reasons. And for a place that advertises as a ‘Chop house’, they’re way off base. The steak was dry, had absolutely no seasoning, no flavor, and then was completely doused in what they called a glaze that was equally as unflavored and was just way to much. To top off the poor choices so far, they literally served it on a bed of French fries and brussels which had us all confused. It wasn’t up to temp when it arrived to the table and was just awful to be honest. No one at our table finished their plates. In addition, a few of us ordered beers….which came in barely cold cans and when asked for a glass, we were given a room temp pint glass, not chilled, nothing. So if you love unseasoned dry steak and a room temp beer, this place is for you.

Asked for a booth she said sure walked way too fast over to a table, plopped our menus down, I said "Can I get a booth" She replied with a snippy yet nonchalant attitude "unfortunately no" abruptly turned and walked off. There was almost no one in the restaurant and we were sat next to 8 empty booths at a table with uncomfortable chairs. If your policy is no booths that is very unaccommodating, especially when there is a pregnant woman involved. If you are going to be that way then be upfront don't ignore a seating request and waste everyone's time by bringing people to where they don't want to go. We got up and left. Used to be good used to be friendly but not any more.

Had diner on the terrace. The music was incredibly loud. You actually could not carry on a normal conversation. Food was the worst I’ve had in a long time. Burger was burnt. Fries were coated with some ultra salty / sugary mixture. We had been there before and it used to be significantly better. This place has some real amateurs in the kitchen. Avoid. PS: Waitress was nice

Kirby needs a major overhaul. The tables were dirty & sticky and our table was right next to the swinging door into the kitchen . . .not the best ambience. The downstairs area is dark and creepy and the bathrooms filthy. But good thing we had our masks on...smh.... Our food was medicore at best . .cold french fries and all the orders did not arrive at the same time. We had a nice server but lackluster service. We dined earlier in the summer and sat on the outside "porch". That at least had fresh air . ..
