I was expecting a bit more from all I had read about the place. When we got there for an early dinner (5:30pm) there were only 3 other couples in the whole place, but the waitstaff seemed flustered, almost like there had been trouble back in the kitchen. It took a long wait just for two sandwiches, and I could count... More

Gaylord's Sugar Bowl Restaurant (founded in 1919 by the Doumas brothers) is one of the oldest family owned restaurants in the USA. It's been updated since then, but we felt as if we had stepped back 50 years. Same iceberg lettuce salad, very good little steak with delicious whipped potatoes and mushroom gravy, fabulous Lake Superior whitefish fillets followed by... More

Great cod! Nice decor. Service is kind of slow even in mid afternoon....servers friendly and knowledgeable. Good place to spend a lazy day with friends.

The good: -Our waitress was great. She was super busy, and did a great job managing all of her tables, they seemed understaffed. I'm guessing she was stressed out, but his it well, and had a great personality. The average: -The food. Nothing stood out, but nothing was bad either. -The lighting in the dining area. Some people might like... More

Unfortunately this restaurant is just a little dated. The food is good but not great. The place could use a nice update. I love their lemon rice soup. Photo's on the walls are wonderful to browse through to give you a little look at the town in its early years.

When we travel we like to eat at local places with history in that community. You could not meet this criteria any better than this place. It was a very quite night. I ordered the "special". Sweet pepper glaze pork chop. It was wonderful. My husband had their German veal with sauerkraut and German potato salad. The meals were a... More

Went here for a family brunch while visiting family in Gaylord. Food was good service was mediocre. Meals were handed out auction style since she did not remember who ordered what. Some of the meals were incorrect on the toast selections. Food was lukewarm. Pricing was good. Atmosphere was nice very old and historic but well taken care of. I... More

Over priced. Food average. Caesar Salad with chicken $10. Salad was small and nothing special. Service average. With my wife the bill was over $20 for two small salads for lunch.

We arrived late and still were served a delicious meal. Our waiter, Chris from Jamaica, was excellent. I had the center cut pork chop which was great but was envious of the BBQ Ribs on my friend's plate. All four of us were pleased with our meals and we'll go back before our vacation is over.
