We had the pleasure of dining at Howe's Bayou twice last month! We had two delicious meals. On a late afternoon...my pulled pork po'boy was tasty, served with the southern slaw and sweet BBQ sauce. His gumbo, with sides of dirty rice and red beans, was delicious. Went back for a Saturday evening dinner...my fried lake perch was cooked perfectly, and came with awesome home fried potatoes. He enjoyed the voodoo shrimp dish. Service is terrific, the waitstaff friendly and attentive. We enjoyed their Louisiana beer offering, but this pub is known for its whiskey and bourbon offerings and its craft cocktails. Kudos to having live music here on select dates!

I love this place and the people who took care of us. We had a party of ten and everything was very good. What stood out to me the most was how out of the way the employees went for us. I ordered something to go also and paid for it and forgot about it and left in a hurry because I had the tickets for an event we were attending on the next block. I didn't get his name but a nice man actually came to the event to find the person who forgot their takeout order. The server remembered me saying we were going there next. He went back and got my takeout and brought it back to me. You just don't find as many people that nice who cares as much these days.

Fantastic food, great tunes and super friendly staff. Quick service but the food is the star. We had calamari (amazing lightly flash fried), shrimp and chorizo pasta (rich and flavorful ) and shrimp etouffe (fantastic aftertaste and powerful flavor). We will be back!!!!

Wife & I stopped in with our toddler for a early dinner. Our server was awesome. Super friendly and on point. Jambalaya was awesome. Shrimp Po Boy was yummy. Voodoo shrimp was tasty. This place never disappoints. Make it a must to stop in for some great food and service.

Nice time on patio while “dream cruise“ took place. We enjoyed nice drinks and food outside. Excellent starter with WhiteFish dip. Cesar Salad with Grilled Chicken and Catfish Po‘ Boy were nice mains as well. The Po‘Boy was little spicy but I liked it that way. Attentive service and friendly to our dog.

I have frequented the Bayou several times before the shutdown. I recently purchased a pick up order and if I could rate lower than "1" I would. The food was nothing like what I had ordered in dining in. I was very disappointed because the fact that it was a carry out should not effect the quality. I will never go there even when dining in is accepted. As a customer, I deserve the same type and quality of the food from Howe's Bayou. Shame on you!

I am traveling during Covid-19 and my reviews will also highlight was restaurants mitigated efforts. We chose to take our food to go as the place was small although they had several tables outside. The jambalaya, deep fried squid and gumbo was excellent. The jambalaya was a bit tame and I like it with a bit more heat; therefore, it was fair to me but excellent to my hubby.

I Love coming to this Restaurant when I return home to Michigan. The food is matched by the service and the venue. All excellent and a really fun place to share a meal with friends, your partner or solo. You are never alone at Howe’s Bayou. Fun

Howe's is a small-ish, old/well-established, restaurant in a sea of great restaurants. 9 of us chose dinner at Howe's after Valentine Vodka and a walk through Funky Ferndale over newer, and I must say better in so many ways, restaurants within walking distance. We hadn't tried the new Como's, Bobcat Bonnie's, the new Asian place... Over all those places, we chose Howe's Bayou, one, last, time. Yes, it was likely the last time. Yes, I gave it a 4 of 5 score. It is a 4 restaurant in a sea of 5's. There's simply no reason to return there unless you MUST have cajun food and MUST have it in Ferndale. The food is good. Prices aren't bad. But there was a LOT of fuss around seating 9 when 4 hadn't walked in yet and NO LINE at the door. There was a fuss around bringing in a plastic cup with a drink from Funky Ferndale. Drink it now or leave. I drank it. I left after dinner. And I very likely won't return and won't recommend it to others.

Drinks were good. Suspected the andouille sausage would overwhelm the encrusted oysters but I was wrong. Very complimentary. My gumbo bowl was pretty authentic tasting and I enjoyed it. I was told by the person sitting next to me at the bar that the snapper special was very good. I was only in the area because my son's band was playing at The Loving Touch down the street. However, if I'm in the area again and hungry I will return.

Had dinner here recently, overall liked it. Good crayfish bisque, very good deep fried oysters in an andouille crust. Full bar, good selection of micro-beers and some tables outside as well. Prices are reasonable. Recommended.

If you drive, you must find parking in the area. There is metered street parking and some pay-to-park lots in the area. It is more of a tavern than a sports bar--I only saw 3 televisions. There are about 15 tables and the bar for seating. They have full bar service. The cuisine is Cajun and very good. The service was excellent and the food tasted great.

So happy I decided to try this place out. It is different, well-priced, and satisfying. I would have to describe the food we ate as savory and spicy. Lots of flavors to perk your senses. Not everything on their menu is spicy, but we like spicy food, so that is what we ordered. What I recommend is their Crawfish Bisque, any of their Creole dishes, Blackened Catfish, the Calamari is perfect! Oh, and their Hot Green Salad, which isn't really spicy....it's a warm salad with a savory Voodoo sauce. Make sure to try one of their many yummy sides - Fresh-made Corn Bread (free with every dinner or soup), Cole Slaw, Red Beans and Rice, Collared Greens, and more. Who knew this little Southern-style gem is discretely nestled into Detroit's suburb at 9 and Woodward (in Ferndale)!

Looking for somewhere different to go on our vacation, we decided to check out Howe's Bayou for an early dinner (it was still around 2pm, so we had the lunch menu). We had the steamed mussels in white wine and garlic, and smoked white fish as appetizers. Both were excellent, and the broth of the mussels was so good we wanted to soak it all up with bread! For our main meal, we ordered the shrimp pasta, the voodoo shrimp on hot salad, and fried oyster po-boy. I think we nearly licked the plates on all of them. The pasta was delicious!! The voodoo shrimp was not killer hot, but just right, and the "hot salad" was wilted greens under the shrimp, it was actually quite nice. My husband loved his po-boy, and we both agreed this is a must visit again location in Ferndale. Waitstaff was super friendly as well, making it a great visit.
