After hearing of under the new ownership, we decided to try it out. The menu was new and fancy with clear pictures. We tried BBQ fish with other dishes and they're authentic Chinese. The server were nice and helpful. So far so good!
Every time I visit, many of the patrons are Chinese...always a good sign (like in Chinatown in NYC). Also, plenty of local retired people. The food is very good and authentic. Prices are decent. The atmosphere is a little tired. My biggest complaint on my...last visit was that they only had one server on duty for the dinner shift and she was simply overwhelmed with trying to attend to all the tables....they should have had someone else on duty to assist (several large groups, as well). The second individual spent all her time at the cash register attending to the various online delivery orders and delivery people (GrubHub, DoorDash, etc.)....maybe it's a sign of the times. I felt bad even asking the waitress for anything because she was clearly so stressed--not her fault. Otherwise, I can definitely recommend the food.More
I usually order here for myself and my 15-20 co-workers. The food has always been absolutely delicious. Today I ordered some steamed broccoli. First price was 9.99, no way for just some broccoli. I was then told 6.95. I get back to the office and...I have a entire pint of broccoli for 7 dollars!!! I hope Taste of china enjoys the last 7 bucks!!!More
Awful! I ordered the lunch combination Chicken (that I was told was a little spicy) with spring rolls instead of an egg roll. The chicken was not spicy - more sweet than spicy, the rice was 75% white rice with a little fried rice thrown...in and an egg roll- no spring rolls. The taste of everything was bland to awful! Don’t waste your money.More
This was the best Chinese restaurant in the area. The previous owner opened it a few years ago after closing his wonderful restaurant in Ann Arbor, Many people traveled 40 miles or more to enjoy Johnny and his food.
I have been 3 times since...the change of ownership. I had not been aware of the change of ownership until the second visit, but the first visit was disappointing. The most notable changes are that the breading is far too heavy, the chicken dishes are extremely over cooked and the sauces are sickenly thick.
I won't be backMore
The restaurant is spotless and the service was good. The food was very fresh with large servings. Most of the dishes seemed quite bland. Sweet & Sour Chicken wasn't very sweet; however, the duck was very sweet. Need to punch up the recipes a bit.
Date of visit: April 2016
