The Brown Sauce !! Almost every restaurant I visit has its unique dish or accoutrement that makes it memorable. On this visit to Downtown Ecorse, I stopped into a well-known local Greek Eatery, the Auburn Cafe. I was in the mood for something simple and fast since I was famished. The interior brings you back a few decades, but don't let the lack of a modern touch fool you, they make great food here. Once I was seated, my server recommended something that I haven't had in years, a traditional Greek Soup called Avgolemono, which is a Lemon Rice Soup. If you have travelled or dined on the cuisines such as Greek, Arab, Sephardic Jewish, Turkish, Balkan and Jewish-Italian then you that Avgolemono is a family of sauces and soups made with egg yolk and lemon juice mixed with broth, heated until they thicken. The Auburn does a great take on this dish. Next was an old favourite, Pork Souvlaki or Pork Kabob. The grilled, marinated and tender pork was very good. My server before my meal came out told me that I should the 'Brown Sauce'. She was right as it did add some complexity and flavour to my meal. I honestly didn't;t know what to expect when trying Greek Cuisine in the Detroit area, but I can say that Auburn Cafe keeps it real. if you're looking for a great greek meal and experience, give them a shot.

We went there Friday night place. We order basically the same things every time we visit, We order 2 shish kabobs, lemon potatoes and a small Greek salad food was great. Our waitress was to say the least, non existent. The matradee basically did the waitresses job until the end when we got our bill. Gave her my credit card paid bill and left. Thought bill was a bit high ,checked the next morning and was double charged for potatoes and salads. Called back the said so sorry.Hmmmmm

On Friday (02/25) went to your restaurant to get the Seafood special pricing...granted we are not regulars, but we ordered the shrimp (got the prawns instead, maybe miscomunication on our part?) and grilled salmon, all under the category of 'Seafood'. Everything was delicious. But the bill came and we didn't get the seafood pricing. Waitress said the prawns are not included...NO WHERE on the menu does it say that, nor did the waitress warn us up front. So I am a little put off by that. I gave a decent tip anyhow, but I just can't shake the feeling that I didn't get the service that expected from either the establishment and our server. Next time I guess I should grill the server about what is or isn't included. I just expected a little bit more for my custom.

Took my wife there for dinner on her Birthday, We dine there every now and then, great steaks, my wife asked for well done steak and it was med-rare, that would be the first thing. The second thing is the reason for the title, never had this happen there before, but, the bill was pricier, but, ok. I was milling around the house the next morning and I received 2 text messages about a few fraudulent charges on card. My bank account was cleaned out and had a high negative balance, needless to say, it happened on a Friday night and the alert came in the next day, so,I have to go the whole weekend beyond flat broke. The bank told me that it was last time the card was used there, which I knew that, So with that being said it is a matter of "HE SAID,SHE SAID". Just beware when using your credit/debit card here.

There for lunch. Greek/Mediterranean inspired menu. Lots of gyros/pitas/sandwiches but some dinner items. Lots of salads and appetisers (including Saganaki -- Opa!). Full bar, including Greek beer & Ouzo. Staff friendly, atmosphere friendly, food very good and very reasonably priced. Limited parking, however. And noted some Ecorse Finest (police) eating lunch there, and a 2 parties of business associates.

My husband and I had dinner at Auburn Cafe on Saturday. It's one of our favorite place because the food is always incredible and the atmosphere and staff are wonderful. Gus, the owner, takes time to stop at tables to make sure you're satisfied and to visit. He's a very personable host. We love Auburn!

I have been eating here for years. I live in Florida but come to Michigan to visit family 3-4 times a year. I missed this past year but went in January. Unfortunately the owner passed away and the quality of the food also died. We ordered gyro's, greek salads and flaming cheese, the cheeze being the only good thing. The gyro meat, 4 slices, were prepackaged. We could tell immediately. The large greek salads were mostly all lettuce. No tomatoes, no beets, no pepperoncinis, a few slices onions, and 6 olives. WTF. Please go back to the level of quality that it was in the past. There were 12 of us and not one of us will return until the quality improves. Very disappointing.

Wood, thank you for taking the time to leave us honest feedback. We're sorry you had a disappointing meal with us recently, especially after many years of enjoying Auburn. We are still family run and have not made any major changes to our menu in many years. That said, we apologize that the food was anything less than delicious. We continue to use fresh, high-quality ingredients and will pass your feedback to our staff. We hope this won't keep you from trying Auburn again in the future.

This is a real gem for Mediterranean food. The menu includes lamb chops, Greek Salad, Lemon Fried Potatoes, Meat Balls, Beef or Chicken Kabobs and more! But the reason I keep going back is for the Stuffed Grape Leaves! they are the best grape leaves I have ever had, and I have tried them in many restaurants and I keep coming back here! They are stuffed with meat and rice and served hot in a wonderful sauce. All of their food is delicious and I recommend Auburn to anyone who likes Mediterranean food.

We were visiting relatives in the area and they took us here for lunch. What a great meal. Everything was done to perfection. We tried a few appetizers and all were amazing. The saganaki/flaming cheese was excellent. Also tried a couple different dips. One was a mashed garlic spread and the other was a thick soup like spread made from tomato sauce, chilli peppers and feta cheese and some finely minced vegetables. All were served with warm pita bread and were to die for. The lamb chops and chicken cutlets are second to none. We also had the thin fried potatoes. For an excellant meal try this place. You won't be disappointed.

This is one my favorite restaurants for Mediterranean food. They have the best stuffed grape leaves in the Detroit area. They are listed as an appetizer but I usually order them for my entrée. There ten grape leaves in an order, which is pretty much a meal. We usually order a large Greek salad for the table, which is delicious and more than enough for four people to start off their dinner. We also order a large lemon fried potatoes to share with our entrees. they are also delicious. They also have the best lemon rice soup in the area but I usually don't have room for it with the salad and grape leaves and the potatoes. Rice pudding is usually served as a dessert at no additional cost. If you like rice pudding, then you will like Auburn Cafe's rice pudding. The lamb chops and meatballs are also very good but my favorite has always been the stuffed grape leaves. If you like Mediterranean, you definitely should try Auburn Café!
