An old reliable.

An old reliable. Immediately after social distancing, I’ll be back. Few restaurants offer such a wide ranging menu. It is difficult to manage the varied food supplies needed to do so. Coral Gables has done it - for years, and years. A quiet, well run restaurant, relaxing and enjoyable.

Comfort food...seems directed at the elderly

Careful viewing of the menu will provide some real rewards. Some of the very best onion rings in the area. The spinach lasagna roll is to die for and their home made ice cream is terrific...especially the coffee kahlua. Parking is plentiful, but be very careful re-entering Grand River Avenue.

Pecan Rolls Should Include Pecans

The last two times I have eaten breakfast there I ordered a grilled pecan roll. The first time, two halves of tiny pecans clung to the side. I actually thought it may have been a cinnamon roll. I told our waitress that I had ordered a pecan roll. She picked it up, examined it, and determined there were a couple of pecan bits. My mother said to always give a restaurant a second chance if I wasn’t happy the first time. So...we went again. I ordered a grilled pecan roll. This time there were three-and-a-half tiny pecans. I think they generally have decent food. Just don’t order a grilled pecan roll and expect pecans. Perhaps they should get their pecan rolls from the little bakery on Main Street in Leslie. Now, *those* are pecan rolls.

Disappointing visit

Our family group dropped in for late breakfast/lunch. We ate in the back room which had an outdated atmosphere with no ambiance. We had no problem with the service, but the food was definitely mediocre. We had a grilled chicken sandwich, pancakes, scrambled eggs and French toast. Nothing was particularly tasty and most of us didn't finish their food.

We have been passing by this place for years. We finally made the stop and it is definitely a local owned establishment. Now it seems to me it caters to the more mature crowd. It was obvious there were a number of regulars there. It was clean, a variety of items on the menu and the staff friendly. The portions are really good size and the food home cooked. Prices were reasonable.

Attentive staff, well prepared, but average quality

Date night on Friday evening stop. My wife and I both had the 12oz New York stip. Salad was of average quality. Lettuce was poor and produce should have been better on the salad bar. Restaurant needs to up their game in this department. Steaks were cooked perfectly (medium rare), but the flavor was below average and marbling should have been way better for the price, far to lean. Chocolate cream pie was probably the best part of the meal. Very good pie. Wine selection was good to. So many places mess up a medium rare steak, but they were perfectly cooked. Waitress was attentive and helpful. The quality of the food was disappointing.

A straightforward breakfast place with brunch buffet on the weekend. It was easy to get in on a weekday morning and short waits on weekends. I had a delicious Eggs Benedict. Omelettes looked good too. Not fancy or creative per se, but good.

A Rock In An Unstable World

It is still there! The beer is still cold!! The burgers are still terrific!!! The staff is still wonderful. Humanity can celebrate that not everything has to change every year to tack to the winds of the latest marketing genius. Millennials and iGen digital natives should feel comfortable but so do the octogenarians. Happy Happy Happy!

Huge menu! Service is always great considering the size of our group. Salads are fresh and good. I usually order the salmon one. Dinners are well priced. Great place for a decent home cooked meal.

The Sunday brunch-buffet was a pleasant, if hurried, experience for us recently. Most notable was its busyness. The food variety was about average for a buffet. The serving staff was inviting. Coral Gables features a considerable menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week and is within a quarter-mile of the MSU campus. It appears deservedly popular.

Never had dinner here

Met another couple on a Saturday evening Memorial weekend. Pretty quiet likely because people out of town. Man that seated us was very nice and provided us a quieter table on the bar side. Our server was a young man named Joey and he was around just enough to check on us, get our drinks, keep water filled, serve dinner, bring check, etc. Was very polite and unobtrusive. The prices for our draft beer seemed reasonable as well as the menu. The stuffed pepper was excellent and the french dip sandwich was pretty good. Would definitely consider returning, had absolutely no problems and was happy to be able to spend a few hours visiting with friends and enjoying the evening!

Easter Day buffet

We did not need a reservation on Easter Day. The buffet is small and can get crowded. The mimosas a couple in our group ordered did not taste good. They are the orange drinks in the pictures. I am vegan, so nothing on the buffet was for me. I ordered a pizza with no cheese. It was alright. Lots of chunks of toppings. The other 3 people in our group had buffet. They said the bacon was very salty.
