Lafayettes is iconic. Coney is always fresh. Love their chili and they get the orders right every time. Have been here dozens of times and have never not enjoyed the food the drink the service and the crowd! Just a joint but an institution!

A fun and friendly place in downtown Detroit! We visited before a Tigers game with our kids and the hotdogs - well, who doesn't love an authentic Coney Island hotdog?!? A must visit for sure.

There are hundreds of Coney Island restaurants in the metro Detroit area. But this tops the list for me...part nostalgia, part the flavor and quality of the coney hasn't waivered. What sets a Lafayette coney above others is that they are crunchy, the bun is steamy soft and the chili is just right. The decor is basic no nonsense Detroit!... More

No frills here but the food is excellent and the service is super fast and friendly. Of all the different coney islands, Lafayette is definitely my favorite by far. A must stop whenever you're in town!

I just don't understand the fascination with coney doge around here. This place is basically head-to-head with another down the street from it but honestly ... it's just hot dogs.

On this cold January day, I needed some love..lol. This is a Family-run operation, entirely paperless. At the end of the meal, the waiter tells ye: You owe me $8.60..you pay..you leave..and you of course thank the man...lol. It's rival next door, originally founded by the brother of this one, was empty wheras Lafayette was busy and full. Limited Menu... More

Yes, yes, yes. This is the original. This is the one you want to go to. It is real. It is raw (not literally). It is Detroit. It is tasty, messy, wonderful. Must order at least 2 of these coney dogs with everything on it. And then put your phone away and just dive in and enjoy the moment, your... More

I went here because, you have to right? I was told by a local to go here first over American. They said it's more real, so I did, and did see a lot of local people including Detroit Police stop in for a couple dogs. The restaurant was smaller than the American Coney Island and had far fewer menu choices... More
