You can not go to Detroit without stopping for a Coney dog from here. They are fast and the best! Gus is no longer there but the dogs and chili are still the best!!!!

If you're wondering "which is better, American or Lafayette?" The answer is Lafayette. Hands down. It may not be as flashy as American, but it's tastier and friendlier. I love it. A few years ago, a few friends of mine did a blind taste test for some food tv show... Winner: Lafayette!

When visiting Detroit Mich there is no better place for the World's best Coney dog. I've been eating here on and off for over 40 years. The sandwich is so flavorful. The lines are long often but the workers friendly and efficient. Stop by when in the area Carol C

While I no longer work downtown, i still come down for various sports and entertainment events, and come over here several times a year. I real classic for downtown.

You go here for the Coney Dogs PERIOD! It is a place of comfort, familiarity and nostalgia. When my sister & her husband visited recently from California, the ONE place she wanted to go was to Lafayette. We went, 3 generations of family strong and had a FABULOUS time along with the great Coney Dogs. Our waiter delighted us by... More

The building is old fashioned and gritty, but their coneys and chili fries are the bomb! If you're in town and want to take a bite of Detroit's Coney history, this place is for you.

Great Detroit coney dogs. Ate at the counter. Not sure what my server was saying, but the dogs and fries were excellent. Quick service. I don't think this place has been updated in 30 years, but that's ok!

Like the earlier reviewer I had heard much about the two famous Coney Island restaurants side by side in Detroit and had to check it out for myself as I love Coney Island hot dogs. My son and I went to the Lafayette and then the American Coney immediately afterwards before attending a Detroit Tiger baseball game. We went with... More

For many years this has been our favorite coney island restaurant when we are in Detroit. The hotdogs are consistently good. Service is always fast. The restaurant is always clean. The urban renewal of downtown Detroit is taking hold and we can see that this part of downtown is getting better. We feel a bit safer each time we visit!

There's a definite charm to Lafayette: the no-frills menu, cash only, service that borders on rude. These may seem like reasons to not like Lafayette Coney Island, but I love this place! The chili is better than American Coney Island (right next door). My standard order is two coneys with no onions and an order of French fries. $7.20 plus... More
