We had April help us out for our cupcake order for our wedding and it was an incredible experience all the way around. First, she had us meet her at her shop and she brought us out little samples of cupcakes, toppings, and fillings. We were able to custom design as many cupcakes as we wanted and it was such a fun experience! If I remember correctly, we chose 8 different varieties and they were a HIT! I received numerous compliments about these cupcakes, but the biggest testaments that they were GONE by the end of the night! We ordered 250 cupcakes and had 175 guests- not one was left! My husband and I didn't even get to eat one but that's okay because our guests were so thrilled. :) Another part of this I must mention is April's willingness to work with us. We found some cupcake holders with beautiful gems on them on Amazon. We had asked if she would be willing to purchase them and we could rent them from her because they matched our wedding decor she much, and she did! It was stunning- all of it. We appreciate you so much, April and all workers at Cakes and Bakes!!!

My wife and I spent a week and a half in St. Louis in 2019 - the Home of the Gooey Butter Cake. We tried the hallmark dessert at three different locations while on our trip and found it to be good, but nothing to get excited over. All that changed when we tried the Gooey Butter Cake at Cakes and Bakes. Now we understand what all the hoopla is about!! If you have not tried this dessert, or if you only tried it in St. Louis, do yourself a favor and try it at Cakes and Bakes. It is rich, gooey and covered in a crunchy buttery crust. Available in lemon or strawberry, both are delicious! We also tried a chocolate sea salt caramel cupcake and a slice of lemon velvet layer cake. Both were excellent. My only regret is that we live 25 miles away from this great bakery. Please note, due to Covid 19 this is currently a carry-out only establishment. You can call ahead or see the menu posted on the storefront and call when you arrive. Either way your order is brought out within a couple of minutes. If you can't find parking, there is a supermarket with a large lot one block south of the bakery. Enjoy!

The goodies are AMAZING. We bought some to take back north with us - hoping we have the willpower to get them home! But ... meeting April was a dream come true. Totally fan-girled and almost cried when I met her. She is so sweet and gracious. The shop is so artsy and bright it's like a little bit of heaven on earth.

I seen this business on Fox 2 news thought that I would give them a try. My family and I drove 30 minutes to a patronize this establishment. The desserts on television look very tasty and delicious thought it would be worth to drive. BUT NOT!!!! The prices for very expensive $4 for one scoop of ice cream. I should have known when people were not making any purchases and walking out. The taste was mediocre and not worth the drive. We only purchase the ice cream and went somewhere else.

I have had muffins or cakes from this brand at the farmer’s market or somewhere before coming here. They have been featured on the today show. Lots of coffee house style seating. Yes there’s a church pew inside. It’s a fun looking spot, great marketing, it’s everywhere. We got the Apple spice tea, the only herbal tea here, a lemon blueberry loaf and a vegan GF brownie, it looked more moist than the regular gluten brownie. The tea takes a bit to steep. The vegan gf brownie tastes good, just rather dry for me, almost scone like dry. My husband liked it, was too dry for me. I am more of a fudgie brownie fan. The blueberry lemon loaf tastes really nice, would be so much better than the 3 blueberries in the entire loaf though. It was at least nice and moist.

I went in to check out their dairy, egg and nut free desserts for my daughter, what a pleasant surprise! Not only were the treats prepared to accommodate her allergies, but the customer service was #PHENOMENAL! I am now a regular and my daughter gets to eat cupcakes, yummy desserts. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!! It’s a must visit!!!!!

This place is a must see if you're in Detroit and you have a sweet tooth. They make fresh soups, coffees and baked goods. I wandered in from another restaurant that had a stupendous wait for breakfast. It was bright and so colorful; much like you'd expect a bakery to be.I ordered the soup of the day (collard greens and black eyed peas), a cupcake, rasin roll and a gooey butter strawberry bar. Then I decided to order another cupcake after I tasted the first one (banana pudding). The soup was perfect! It was vegetarian which is a nod to the chef, as most people like to throw meat in peas and greens. There was also pieces of sweet potato in it, too. The balance was amazing. On to the sweets... The frosted raisin roll was warmed for me and melted in my mouth. I couldn't finish it all. The cupcake was a little smaller than the ones I've had at other cupcakeries. Even still, the wafer on top was soft and the inside was moist. There was so much banana flavor that it really did taste like banana pudding. The strawberry goey buttery bar was so sweet, I had to eat it with hot tea. It was delicious, though! Super moist on the inside but had a flaky baked crust on the top and around the edges. Those were my favorite parts. After buying two cupcakes and the bar and soup, the total was 13 dollars. Its refreshing when you indulge in sweets and don't feel bad about spending a ton while doing it. Two snaps up and a cupcake!

Do I need to find another wonderful bakery? NO! Do I need to find a dessert to avoid so I won't mess up a diet? No! But here we are...I wandered into this place to find a nice spot to wait for an appointment. I just wanted a cup of coffee but one look at the beautiful selections made it a little hard to resist. Then they offered a sample. I should have declined but it was a more complicated. My daughter accepted and the look on her face when that gooey butter cake hit her pallet was priceless. She likes the strawberry. I prefer the lemon. I'm sure the other treats are good too...but gooey butter cake is like dream on a plate.

I’ve never actually been to this place but ordered from them twice for my sister’s birthday. Living on the other side of the world and still being able to do this with trust is of great value. Keep up the good work!

I'm not sure how YOU judge a bakery but I'm gonna say that when we were looking at picking up some goodies for our daughter-in-law's birthday, the moment I heard the cashier say "Oh, those caramel cupcakes have a creamy caramel center. And those banana pudding ones have real pudding in the center", I knew I was on the path to a 5 Star review. So we bought a few, added some German chocolate and red velvet ones - just to balance things out. Oh, and a vegan carrot cake that looked like something you wanted to smash your face into? Yeah, let's get that too. Oh, wait, what's that you say? You have a famous crumble that you've served to Presidents? Yeah, why not. So, was it more than just appealing to the ear and eye?? Oh my yes. Yes, yes, yes!! I'm still drooling after those cupcakes. For the record they also have a fabulous coffee bar, some delightful looking filled bundt cakes and a host of delights like brownies and cookies. You should go here. Really.

I'm really happy that Good Cakes and Bakes exists - both because their baked goods are great, and because they are in the neighborhood. A bonus is that they are welcoming of everyone. The red velvet cupcakes were my favorite, although the brownies and chocolate chip cookies I had, as well as the coffee, were all good, too. I organized a gathering here, and I'm afraid the communication wasn't perfect, but it all worked out and I'm sure things will improve on that front. Again, I'm really glad this bakery exists and look forward to enjoying more red velvet cupcakes and other great baked goods here in the future.

I had some time to kill in Detroit, so I decided to stop in Good Cakes and Bakes. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. You must try the Butter Cake and The Salted Carmel Cupcakes. I consider myself a cake snob, so I don't throw compliments to just anyone. There food is AMAZING.

Great cakes, cookies, cupcakes, homemade ice creams, delicious exotic teas, soups, etc. Custom made cakes for special occasions. Whimsical, down home decor. Friendly staff. P.S. The carrot cake is soooo good! Indoor and outdoor seating.
