To be honest this is not a business for young African American/Black people to have the simple responsibility of answering the phone. I say that to say this, walk in for a carry out and the person is right in the window on their personal...cell phone or talking to another coworker or friend. But to call there for a carry out and no one can answer the phone. The image of black business should not be in the hands of those that has no business sense.More

I wanted to sample some local soul food and found the Urban Soul Restaurant via a Google search. A quick UBER ride from downtown brought me to a low-key store front restaurant. It was Wednesday, but there was a large crowd - good sign. I...arrived at 7:00 pm, about an hour before closing time, but was seated right away. I ordered the catfish platter with collard greens and green beans. They actually had sweet tea...real sweet tea, a rarity in these Northern locales. The wait for my food was very long, but the waitress apologized profusely, which made me feel as if she cared about me as a customer. She even brewed a fresh pot of tea, even though Urban Soul was minutes from closing. Most eateries will not do so. I was very impressed. The meal was well worth the wait! It was no mystery why the place was packed in the middle of the week! Prices are very reasonable. Also, as a bonus, there was a DJ playing an excellent selection of old school rhythm and blues music. My dinner was about as close as I could get to a home cooked meal while on the road.More

The food at Urban Soul was good. We had the chargrilled chicken with collard greens, black eyed peas and cornbread, which are all well prepared and our server was great. Prices are very reasonable. Recommend the peach cobbler for dessert. Restaurant is located in a...shopping strip mall four to five blocks from the river. Big takeout business and they have a big and varied menu.More

Well let me start with is was a bad time... We went to Urban Sould for my sister in laws 44th Birthday "She picked the place"... I need to,say this if you think they have good food your taste needs some work. The food is...not good, it was cold and service is very poor. If you go on a slow day at lunch it may be ok but other than that it was bad. I blame the management and owners, the way everything went it fwlt like a rookie opened and started a eatery. If you want to have a successful business you MUST change how things are ran!!!!More

We met friends in Detroit to go to the Motown Museum. The tour guide Jared recommended this place when we asked where he would eat. That’s how we like to explore wherever we go by asking locals. WOW. We were not disappointed. Since it was...11am on Saturday it was not busy as they just opened. It was larger than expected, clean, and they have huge booths that comfortably sat six with room to spare. Our server was kind and pleasant, smiling and happy to recommend sides. They even have a Kool-aid flavor of the day💗 We ended up with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, catfish, green beans like grama used to make with bacon grease, mac and cheese, corn, and my oh my the most delicious and moist cornbread I’ve ever had. And I live in the South! If I could give this place more stars I would. We compared every fried chicken we had the rest of our five day trip to this, including the fried chicken in Frankenmuth. Urban Soul is the clear winner!More

The food is falling off! This is the 2nd time Ive frequent this restaurant. This past summer and the sweet potatoes tasted burnt. The mac was not cheesey and the dressing OMG it was dry also the green beans were so overcooked until they were...slippery. The cornbread was cold The butter couldnt even melt on it. And to top all this disappointed visit off the entire meal was NOT HOT!! I will NOT go here again. The food is going down. Hire another cook or eat this food yourself! VERY disapointed....More

The service was excellent with a general friendly atmosphere. I ordered the ribs, and boy was it a delicious entree. It came with a choice of two sides, the collard greens were simple yet so tasty and the corn was without fault. I would have...easily given this place 5 stars except I also ordered a cup of coffee, alas, there was none in stock. In all, who really needs coffee for lunch? It was a delightul experience and might I add affordable.More

Went for lunch and had the "special". It was under $10 for both lunch, drink and dessert! I had the ribs, they were fall off the bone. And the peach cobbler is wonderful. Try the mac and cheese, you will love it! It has nice...atmosphere and plenty of places to sit.More

Even when a lot of guests are there it does not feel crowded. The booths easily hold six adults or 8 possibly. The food is very tasty. I really enjoy the short ribs. I used a knife to cut them and they melted in my...mouth. I have had them three times and weeks apart with the same results. The gravy is just right for the corn bread. My girlfriend enjoyed that fact that she can control her portions easily there. Catching up on how the other one has been was so very easy to do. No distractions with televisions all over the place. Thank you Urban Soul for consistency in your great offerings on the menu and an environment that allows for the creativity of your guests.More
